Easily one of the most overlooked musicians. He’s more than a percussionist and drummer. He’s his own orchestra. His technical ability is insane and he has the musicality to keep it interesting.

Thanks for all your comments & compliments! I am using pintech midi triggers on each tuned drum. that goes into 6 Roland TMC-6 units, then into m-Audio midi -usb routers and into my mac using Reason for a sign-wave pure tone of the note each drum is tuned to. that helps the melodies come out more clearly. i apologize for the slap back echo (that came from a live mix room mice i guess!)
@gregorymarch825510 жыл бұрын
That is insane. So do you create a sample of a tuned drum that's triggered thru the midi?

John Bergeman I went to a drum clinic he had.He was demonstrating how he knows to use a drum stick to play a "sharp" or a "flat" note on any drum and he has taught himself to do it with both hands.So from the amount of toms you see him using in this video he can get 3 notes from each tom.If you can ever get to see him at a drum clinic do it.It's really worth the experience

Terry Bozzio has contributed something very unique and innovative to the world of drumming. It's not about the size of the kit. It's about breaking boundaries and unlocking the melodic potential of drumset playing. Terry's playing should put an end to the myth that drummers aren't real musicians. This is the kind of thing that can inspire drummers to think different about their player. So I say to Terry Bozzio; thanks for making this available on KZbin for free.

Awesome! I remember back in 2000 Terry came to Texas to do a clinic and the first thing he said to the spectators before he started the clinic was: “ I bet you all are wondering what this contraption is.” I was wondering how the heck he got all of those drums and percussion in that music store! Mesmerizing performance and he signed my Pro Shop T shirt. Amiable guy and modest. Terry has truly marked an epoch in drumming history. Cheers!

Terry's Bozzio solo's are so unique. Most; if not all, drummers just blast their drumkits. They look more like athletic endeavors than actual music. Not here, this is music, amazing. I saw you in 1984 in Long Beach, Ca, 1985 in Mesa, Az, 1995 (or thereabouts) in duet with Chad at SMU in Dallas, in a clinic in Tempe around 2002, and finally in solo performance at the Musical Instrument Museum here in Scottsdale, around 2011 or so. I was thinking of him when I accessed the article on Neuroscience and Drumming. His technique was published but I don't think anyone ever thought to record the audio in the 1950's although some patients had told him that the sound was as good as the feel. He would have called you the drummer from another world and you are! I don't even begin to understand what you have going on there but I can't wait to listen to every recording of you I can find.

I've been inspired by Bozzio's playing since seeing him in Halifax with Frank Zappa in circa 1981. That was an awesome night and during the solo Terry did some tuned percussion that blew my mind that included simple recognizable melodies, i forgot what they were. Bozzio is a pioneer of inclusion of tuned percussion in the drum set and continues to extend this today with amazing musicality.

I was late in getting into Terry and his F'n outadisworld drummin' chops. My first introduction was Spring Session M with Missing Persons and I WAS HOOKED! What a FANTASTIC album which also includes some of the BEST BEATS I have heard. I may be nostalgic but here we are. I regressed a bit and listened to his time with Frank Zappa and this solidified my suspicions that Terry is an unstoppable force in the drumming world. Terry's playing with Steve Vai and Jeff Beck along with many others has been a drummers delight through the years. I will admit to stealing a few tools from the box and some modification of others but you know what they say about immitation. This new stuff is beautiful, melodic, difficult to replicate and addicting. I have no complaints about this approach to percussion, only compliments. LOVE the huge set and all that comes with it, I mean ALL! Thank you Terry for the many years of innovation and inspiration.

I just recently reheard that album mainly because I wanted to hear how cool his playing was and how some of his rhythms even happened in this funky new wave band. Also to really listen to the sounds in his custom electronic set he built for Missing Persons. Some of those patterns he played were so razor sharp !!!! "Now is the time" comes to mind. Anyway this album is so underrated .
