Jeff was a warrior...still is today. He was a 118-pounder. He wrestled 126 that day, in their house, because he wanted to. You have to be a little arrogant to be a champ. Sometimes that warrior mentality is your own worst enemy. I know Jeff...if he had a chance? I'll bet he'd do it again hahaha
@swimhurl8 жыл бұрын
Prescott sucks dude - why would he want to take on Brands?
@dwolfanger8 жыл бұрын
He was a two-time NCAA champ and the MOW of the 1991 tournament. What's on your resume? Why take on Brands? Because he's a fighter and that's what fighters do. He was a 118-pounder and he moved up to 126 for one dual because that's where Terry Brands was at and he wanted to throw down with him. That's what fighters do. Why does anyone walk out on the mat to wrestle anyone? To see who's better. It's kind of the nature of sports in general. Did watch the Olympics at all a few weeks ago? This is probably going to sound crazy to you but, all of the athletes in the finals of the men's 400 meter dash were there for one reason...to see who was fastest. Crazy, huh? Guys competing against each other to see who's best. I know that probably flies in the face of the "everybody gets a trophy" world that you grew up in but, in reality, that's the way it actually works.

@finn bell In 2018, Seth Gross #1 at 133 moved up to wrestle Bryce Meredith #1 at 141. They were 1-1 vs each other before the match. Unlike the Brands Prescott match though, this one was closer with Meredith winning 4-2. They wanted to put on a good show and finish the best of 3 series.

Terry did also beat Cross. Cross obviously won in the Olympic Trials, but they wrestled in College, Cross beat him first, then Terry destroyed him the second time (after Cross was already a national champion). Terry scored something like 24 points. Both are two of the best ever at that weight class. I think Mr. Wrestlers point was that Terry had a way of not just winning, but absolutely dominating, physically and on the scoreboard.

You have to give credit to Prescott. The mistake was challenging a national champ at his home gym. You just don't do that, not in Iowa. I've attended matches there and the crowd gives the wrestlers additional incentive. Terry and Tom were both huge strengths for coach Gable.
@abbeykroeter23529 жыл бұрын
+joe woodell Not only that but I give huge credit to Prescott for being not even a large 118 pounder... let alone a 126 pounder!! You can see when they are in the initial hand fighting, Prescott is strong as hell but his WHOLE BODY is moving around when Brands pushes and shoves. It was ever really a good match up, and to add to the problem, Prescott twisted his ankle badly in the beginning when he nearly had Brands taken down. Pound for pound, this is not as much an amazing performance by Brands as it is an intense weight training workout for Prescott. Everyone fades from that. Nothing wrong with his technique; he can't even stand his ground when Brands pushes him.

We should all give him credit though for looking to wrestle a good wrestler in Terry. I don't know who Prescott is but I can tell he is or was the type of guy to look for challenges.

@@jaydensmith6652 Prescott was a beast. He was an absolute hammer. Dude won a national title over Zaputil of Iowa by tech fall if I recall correctly. But he was one of those guys back then who was NOT big enough for 126.

Hard for Prescott to make 118 (after wards)? Not hard at all! That's where Prescott really belonged at that level of wrestling, though he was tough enough to beat many up at 126 other than Brands. He hurt his ankle badly but didn't quit. When not trying to stand on it, he actually rode Brands. Prescott wasn't even big for 118, yet he destroyed most at that weight class. It's usually all downhill once the best at a weight class wears down the best of a smaller weight. Watch Fadzaev vs. Monday.

Honestly though these are basically the 106 of highschool not nearly as much competition as the other weight classes since most people in college aren’t close to being 125 pounds as a grown man
@tjm69832 жыл бұрын
Ignorant comment. No comp between hs and D-1 ncaa. I kind of get what you mean about the lowest weight class in hs, as when I was in hs it was 103 and for many schools was just a matter of finding someone who could make that weight and was willing to wrestle. But it's not the same thing in college, there are plenty of that size willing to put in the work to compete. Especially when you include d-1, d-2 & d-3. For every weight class in wrestling there's less competition compared to football, basketball & baseball. That's because it requires a higher level of commitment, which should be acknowledged and credited. And not everyone is done growing when in college. It seems maybe you weren't aware Terry Brands was a world champ as well. But I guess that's still not enough competition though..
