This is the first jackfruit video I have seen that shows the proper way to open it and extrait the edible parts, meanwhile respecting the organic structure of the fruit and using this very organic structure to process it for eating. This video is so wonderful, from the beginning where the gentleman harvests a few properly ripe jackfruit, to the filming of his roadside stand, every step is authentic and beautiful. Thank you so much Terry Films for the education, simply marvelous!!!

For those who have never eaten this fruit: The rind and core are dripping with extremely sticky latex which can be very messy to deal with, but this man is obviously an expert at minimizing the mess. The edible arils have the identical flavor of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum. The arils that you see the man freeing from the thick rind, core, and other dry fibers are wonderfully fragrant, sweet, and juicy. There is one large starchy EDIBLE seed inside of each aril, which can be prepared for eating exactly as if it were a chestnut. Out of one 20 lb jackfruit you can expect to fill two gallon-sized ziplok bags. They freeze well for storage. This is my very favorite fruit, with durian in a close 2nd place. (Note: "Arils" are the smaller edible portions found inside a larger fruit, and they usually enclose a seed.)

Wow, what an impressive demonstration of skill and precision! Cutting fresh jackfruit can be quite challenging, especially given its large size and sticky sap, but you've managed to do it with such ease and finesse. The way you handle the knife and carefully separate the flesh from the rind shows a deep understanding of the fruit and a lot of practice. It’s clear that you’ve mastered the art of jackfruit cutting, ensuring every piece is perfectly prepared for eating. Your technique not only makes the process look simple but also ensures that nothing goes to waste. Great job!

If one has not tasted Jackfruit , just missed out on the most delicious fruit , it taste cannot b explained , its just amazing , the best JF comes from India , the taste is amazing , unripe jackfruit has a stringy, meaty texture similar to meat . This texture-along with the fruit's neutral, almost bland taste, which can accommodate the flavor of whatever it's cooked in & is a large reason why jackfruit is such a popular meat alternative.

HMMMMM!!! I can already smell and taste it in my head. I miss eating jackfruits! Also, key to not get sticky sap on the hands is to oil your hands first. 😉

@@TheMcdrewb Jackfruit naturally produces latex (you can see it in the video, the white liquidy stuff on the edges of the fruit), so that when you cut it up is extremely sticky. I've done it myself for this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3XZiaFrm8t-b9E), and it took about an hour and a half just to get all the fruit out, and the natural latex definitely added to the difficulty (it stuck to my knives, hands, and towels.)

Really wish that I can eat fresh jackfruit. I've only had canned.
Jackfruit, like banana and many other fruits, is better eaten when fully ripe, like when the meat is juicy and a bit translucent. Eating it earlier than this stage and you'll get a lot of sticky latex. But you have to buy the whole fruit or go to its native country to do this, because ripe fruit can't be stored or exported. There's another type of jackfruit that's softer and smells better than this but it's been really rare to see them these days. In Vietnam it's called mit mat (literally nectar jackfruit) or mit to nu (literally young lady jackfruit). It smells and tastes almost like the normal jackfruit but the texture is like that of the durian. Edit: forgot to mention that this normal, common type of jackfruit is called mit dai (chewy jackfruit). Dragon fruit, longan, lychee, pineapple, etc. all have at least two very different types but only one of them is popular because it's easier to store and export while the other is actually the better one lol. Even banana has like 4-5 very different types, the smallest ones that's shaped like a fat finger, very sweet, called chuoi ngu (royal banana) and the plumpish one that's soft but also chewy (chuoi tay, chuoi nep, western banana, sticky banana) and usually used for a deep frying snack (banh chuoi, or chuoi chien, literally banana cake, or fried banana).
