Terry O’Neil, Gary Spiers, Pete McDowell are the living proof for the effectiveness of REAL karate (not the cut-off competition point version). Anyone who doubts that, take a look at the videos of these guys and see what they can do. It is absolutely lethal. Huge respect for these pioneers. Osu!

Frank is an unbelievable martial artist BUT Terry and Gary were proven on the street so HUGE difference mate . Could Frank Brennan win in a street fight 💯NO DOUBT but I don’t think he’s ever had a street fight as he 🤷🏽. Gary and Terry had thousands of altercations on the door over their many years working them and probably over a thousand KOs between them in real fights . That puts them in an ENTIRELY different league as hard men as there are no rules on the street . You can loose your liberty ( go to jail ) or even your life on the pavement arena BIG difference to a dojo hard man mate !!!!

Interesting - never seen film of Gary before..They both worked on the door of The Banyan Tree at the same time for a couple of years during the early-mid 70's, a couple of months after Terry brought Gary (who told me he was half Maori BTW - and that his mum was an Irish nurse) over from Japan where he was living at the time.. This was during the period where Gary first starting running dojos and Terry has his knee-cap severely damaged in an international match (I think it might have been in Belgium) that essentially stopped him fighting competitively
