I don't believe that Gary Spiers would carry a knife. He had stated that anybody pulling a weapon on him would suffer a severe lesson in brutality.I know people who were taught by Gary and they all said he was an absolute gentleman and a great bloke.I also find it hard to believe that outsiders could take over the Liverpool club doors.I have lived on Merseyside for over 70 years and have heard many tales of legendary doormen such as Gary Spiers and Terry O'Neill but never heard of any trouble with Mr.Capes.

I met Gary at a seminar in Australia, NSW back in the mid 90s via Jim Tierney (JTs Gym) in Golburn. I spent over an hour with Gary the night before the seminar (free to ask him anything), probably as a thank you and him being nice, since I tried to cavas support in Victoria for someone to host his seminar. His series of interviews in Australasian Fighting Arts, at the time raised concerns amongst ‘traditionalists’, hence no one wanted to help. I feel priverlaged to have talked, trained and learnt from Gary, even for that brief time. It was an honor. R.I.P. Gary✊️

I worked with Gary in 1982 on the doors in St Helens,Park Lane Club, Fleece Hotel, and Cindy's which was like something out of Road House. As a scouser I thought everyone else was a dick if they weren't from Liverpool 😮...how wrong I was ..I was 21 ..the youngest doorman out of the 10 of us on the door. I was inexperienced, but Gary always has my back ...when I first met him he said to me what's ya sport digger ... I would drive him from club to club in St Helens in my vw beetle..fuck ...when he got on to the passenger side the car would tilt to one side 😂... One of the nicest fellas I have ever met...kind, caring, thoughtful...but never ever fuck with this guy. Lew Yates one hard man had the licence for Park Lane night club ...he was up to fight Lenny McLean but it didn't turn out...as hard as Lew Yates was he was so weary of Gary...you could feel the tension when they were together. Lew Yates is still alive ..he must be 80 years old now ...but you wouldn't want a rumble with him even now.

I met Gary Spiers several times in the 90s, and on all occasions he was intelligent, affable, and gentlemanly. I do not know the detals of the alleged razor episode, but I suspect Gary would only use a weapon in anger if it was dropped or confiscated from an attacker. Mr Spiers was certainly capabe of extreme violence, but I saw ZERO evidence that he was a thug or a volatiile psychopath. Quite the contrary, he was a very effective antidote to those conditions.

Gary Spiers was a trained killer in the making . He trained in Japan under the most strict of conditioning & training of top karate masters . Also he was a trained merchanionary who had worked i believe for C.I.A. at one time . Story saying he was dropped of by the C.I.A. to bring back a War Lord who had his own army in the juggle . When he came back into the C.I.A.office they asked where was the prisoner for interrogation ? Gary Spiers threw the man's ears on the table & said he is listening ! Mercanionary can be sociopaths & take body parts as memorbial of action . Very sadistic . I was aware that a photo of him was in a dojo getting seen by some sensei's where he was doing the splits with each foot on a 2 decapicated heads . I was asked did i want to see? I said no thanks .Gary Spiers was atrained killer & Street fighter & highly trained martial artist . Capes was not your average Joe . 😂😂 He was 6 feet 5 inch tall and almost 320 lbs with tree trunk like arms and incredibly strong too . And he was from the country side and grew up On a farm and was not a SOFT City person . I don’t think Spiers had the strength to take him down . And Spiers was not some pro MMA heavyweight fighter like Ngannou or Brock Lesnar . He just knew a bit of Karate . 😂 That does not mean that he was a pro fighter .

Spiers was a thug. His constant swearing made him totally unfit for a dojo let alone being a teacher. Also his martial arts technique as shown in videos was very limited to very bad.
