I think this is one of the best rock and roll anthems of all time...and sadly remained largely unknown.

I can thank Rob Zombie for introducing me to this amazing song writer including this and Brave awakening, and to be treated right in his film The Devils Rejects. I had the honor to see Terry do all three live in 2005.

Terry is a good friend of mine. Waltzed through life oblivious that he wrote the best song that ever was released. God bless him

I was there at the Bottom Line that night. This is very strange - Just looking for Terry Reid on KZbin, and up this popped - nearly 40 years later. My blood froze for a second. I was on my first trip away from London, courtesy of Freddie Laker's "Skytrain". Walking around Greenwich Village and there it was on Fourth Street. - The Bottom Line! I'd read all these reviews in Melody Maker / New Musical Express / Sounds of great bands and gigs there. The lovely people we were with said "No problem - We can book tickets for Saturday night". So we did. Strangely again, my memory of that night was that I loved the club, the company, and the mind blowing fact that I was actually in New York, but I wasn't really impressed with Terry Reid. I'd seen him at the Roundhouse here in London a few months previously, and again, I didn't really get it! But this recording (and I've listened to it so many times over the last few years) just knocks me out every time. And then I went to see him at the Jazz Cafe in Camden. Just brilliant. Great voice, really good band. How come I didn't figure it all out before. Sorry, I'm wandering (something that Terry admits to, but is in fact part of his talent!) but I can only recommend anyone reading this to get out and see him next time he's anywhere near you. He's a great raconteur too - what more d'you want !

+Fincar If I could pick only one place to go back in time, it would be July 23, 1976 to the Bottom Line in NYC listening to Terry Reid perform all his new songs from Seed of Memory. Hah ha, I would have been 13. I discovered him only recently and fell in love with his music so when he posted shows in NYC this year, had to traveled 5 hours to see him perform April, 2015 at the Turning Point at Piermont on the Hudson. Unforgettable night. Hope he comes back to the east coast of the US again soon.

Terry and I became good friends around 7 years ago out families keep in regular contact and he's still gigging regularly. I'm just glad he still has his health and his beautiful wife Annette. Amazing people. Terry lived a life and wrote the best songs music ever had the pleasure to grace itself with

the reason why Terry is one of a kind is no one would be able to pull this off like him. ....i just saw this live on friday in New York.....even now its one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I rarely know how to verbalize the word "beautiful" but if anyone asks me i would tell them to buy a ticket...draw a chair..sit, be still and quiet and listen to a this man perform this song.

The guitar player is Doug Rodrigues, who played on Rogue Waves. I think the rhythm section is Soko Richardson and Lee Miles. 4 track set, that's on an old cassette somewhere. Saw him at the end of September with 50 ish others in Portsmouth. As always a mix of stunning and just good. Next evening he spoke at an exhibition of photographs about the Rolling Stones at Portsmouth Guildhall. Very entertaining! If you get the chance get to see him take the chance. You won't regret it!

I do like this 9 mins!!! - after listening to these properly - (i just had them stored last time round) - I'm quite suprised Terry had lost some of his voice range by 76 - Makes me appreciate his voice more in present day recordings i guess - its like in 6 years - power had dissappeared but his expression just over takes me! every time!

I wonder why he did this song in a higher key (Eb) ? Clearly his range can't be tested cause he still does this song justice live. Great song though Terry in any key.

Terry was in great form @ the studio on april 6, 2009. He had the audience in his hand and gave them his heart. I 'm hoping someone has a video of TERRY REID @ THE STUDIO NYC, 4/6/09... the band was a special one: Ed Rainey from the Cosmic American Derelicts Band on guitar/ slide Tony Cimorosi NS upright bass Tony Beard Drums Benny Harris Keys Terry and the band had a great connection ... Hope to see some on KZbin soon.

Hmmm... not so sure he lost that much. No change really in the album versions of 1976. And I just listened to 5th of July - from the Driver album, recorded in 1991, the power is all there all right... may have dropped the pitch though, singing in a lower register than in his teen years, which is kind of normal. Remember also, he smokes like a chimney, always did...

To the commentor bgnh1 below: your own comment is a gem unto itself! Those type of details and opinions raise the hair on your arm, and I agree about Richie Haven's "Parable of Ramon". Hauntingly beautiful in it's own right!!! (yes including the baby that cries on cue).

Yep. Terry was willing to try if jimmy waited after the stones tour but jimmy wanted a band then and now. Hence terry recommended plant and bonham and got on with his own life. He neither accepted or turned it down it was all timing im glad terry didnt join though wouldnt have worked at all jimmys although talent filled but completely reckless opiate drug fuelled behaviour and arrogance wouldnt have been tolerated by terry I dont think. Terrys a strong decent character himself and knows exactly what he wants from music. Just listen to his River album. Thats done HIS way. its a complete beautiful master piece
