Lulz, thanks Terry. Nothing worse than being stuck in a foreign land like Bristol and not being able to speak the lingo of the locals. I carry a guidebook with basic terms and phrases but often I struggle to follow the native tongue. That is until now!

Do the people in Bristol also say like "init?" at the end of a sentence? Like "Person 1: I love this place. Person 2: I know, it's beautiful, init?" or something like that?

@gdsongwriter The 1st time I ever read about Mr. Woodruff was about 1997 from a book entitled "Portrait of Bristol" by Keith Brace, published in 1976. It is in that book where Mr. Woodruff is qouted as referring to Bristolese as a debasement of the English Language rather than an enhancement. In Mr.Woodruffs video (UTube) "Sounds of Bristol" he opens with "Bristolese is what I call, Anglo-Saxon gone berserk" I think he meant it with more passion(affection) than I could ever use about Bristolese.

@gdsongwriter In Mr.Braces book wherein he writes about what he learnt about Bristol from his mother. He uses phareses to describe Bristol as "a slovenly degradation of English". "Schoolchildren can be taught to take pride in an idomatic dialect such as Northubrian or Scots;but teachers can hardly encourage their pupils to speak what is basically a maltreatment of the English language". He goes on to say, "Bristol is prehaps ashamed of the way it speaks? But he goes on-"Paradoxically.......

@rybevski Try putting "Bristolease", in to Google.Google had no problem finding it amonst numerous sites. You may appriciate putting "Poetic Response To Prejudice In Bristolese", into KZbin. You may enjoy it.Or U may find it totally ridiculous that some1 actually claims to be Bristolian and a speaker of Bristolease.Mr.Geoffrey Woodruff, a Bristolian School Master also uses the term "Bristolease" to describe what he referred to as a debasement rather than an enhancement of the English Language.

@gdsongwriter So sure I have passion about language. I respect trememously what Mr.Woodruff was saying even when he spoke passionately in a critical way about what I think is his own language/dialect. I consider his savageing a friendly mawling. His own offence at his own is respectful because it shows his understanding of the diversity of langage. That way he can speak with the high, middle and low. Natually he spoke more affectionatly about his own language. Even the slangy corrupt bits. Lol

@gdsongwriter Hi- I hope it was ok to use your "Poetic Responce ECT" as a qoute to support my own use of the word "Bristolese". Others are available. I am sure you are right about there being "Greater affection" about Bristolese than my qoutes implied. I believe even when savaging the Bristolian dialect, Mr. Woodruff was passionate. I myself have no intrest in the merciless correction of raw uneducated youths in Bristols schools. Whereas Mr. Woodruff did. He taught there in Bristol........
