@lucklessleenyc3 жыл бұрын
i would say 60% of the rides here are rather careless. which is why there is a high rate of incidents here. these kinds of riders do have a degree of skill, wont take that away from them but there's A LOT of luck involved with this aggressive style. i respect the ability of the riders shown on this channel ( why i come back every once in awhile ) but they are very selfish with how they ride. i hear most people say " we understand the rhythm of the streets" but that's all just a mock up for saying they're careless about those around them and want to ride how they do. new york will be new york. luck runs out *shrug*
@stop2233 жыл бұрын
@@lucklessleenyc I think they don't ride like this all the time. But since it's a race they push their luck. As you already said they are very skilled, otherwise there would be much more crashes...
@aemontarg69343 жыл бұрын
@@lucklessleenyc It's a risk reward. Yes there is risk to others around us but when you take into account that most of these tourists or even locals do not check their surroundings or stop like deer in headlights when they walk regardless of the right of way, the luck involved isn't so much in the rider as it is the environment around him. Not to mention the risk is far greater for the rider than it is for the pedestrian if the pedestrian isn't elderly or a woman with a stroller, it is more likely the rider will wipe out to their own peril than to directly impact the pedestrian and hurt them more than the rider. Again it is a chaos-order balance of sorts as you certainly respect the ability of the riders and it is no doubt enviable to be able to do this sort of thing and take that adrenaline pumping, skill-based risk. It really comes down to how you define being careful as anything else the degree of caution is relative to the danger. To some extent following this thought, if you are harmless you will never be a competent rider and same goes with life in general..

@@ADRNG Oh yeah, I remember coaster brakes as a kid. I don't think I could even ride a bike that doesn't freewheel. Of course, I am nearing 50yo now AND it looks like these guys were pedaling the entire time. So . . . maybe I am just getting too old? It still seems that brakes are far better than foot braking, non-freewheel, or the slide trick. It most certainly seems like my age is the issue because I just want to yell at them to put brakes on their bikes. Either way, I would absolutely love to take a vacation in NYC to ride with these guys. I'm all for crazy shit and I've biked my fair share of insane routes in the city but someone is literally going to die riding like this, either on the bike or pedestrian. I suppose this is summer 2021 so maybe not full on traffic like it's gotten back to in 2022. This would've been great to do in April 2020 when there was zero traffic. All's well that ends well?

@@sleepyzebra11 I am not criticizing, I like the videos very much and I too ride like this sometimes. And I am not from New York, so I couldn't tell you any stories. But riding like this can definitely kill someone else, or, in the majority of cases, yourself. Or at least injure someone. I ride like this too, but we are totally in the wrong, is what I am saying.

I would look back as he did, realize they are moving way faster than me, and I would slow down to not miss the spot I'm heading to and allow the bikers to go past, then without endangering others, I can now get to my destination.

This is not even dangerous or careless driving - it is killers' driving. Guys there are special race tracks for that kind of stuff. Both for roadies only and for MTBs. Go there. Racing in the city you are putting other road users at risk which not only is stupid but gives a strong argument to government to introduce a government control over cyclists - same as we do for cars. With that, you are doing a massive disservice to the whole cycling community.

This is the side of Track Bikes/Urban riding that I don't like. I don't care if they die because if their arrogance but God forbid they hit a stroller with a baby in it or something. These selfish bozos are giving cyclists a bad name.
