what soil mix do you use for Azaleas? I've just bought a discounted plant from the store, right after blooming, and it has thrown almost all leaves, but some small new are coming. What to do next, repot ( separate 4 to different pots) or let it get some more new leaves?

I guess if you need to, but I generally try to perform the majority of cutting to just after flowers. So I guess it depends what you want to prune.

I am not sure as nothing else has the same qualities ie acidic, soft enough for the fine roots of azalea to penetrate, and is inorganic.

I have a nursery stock azalea with a very nice root base. The soil is nursery stock and pretty compacted. It's only had minor pruning and is very leggy. It's mid july now, what would you suggest as a timeline of action to turn this shrub into a bonsai?

Thank Michael for the question. The best time to do drastic work on azalea is just after flowering. Root work falls within that same timeframe, or you can repot prior to flowering. However a lot of time this is based on the assumption that you are pruning to preserve flowering in the following season. As such at this time considering the plant is not yet a bonsai the pruning you mention could be done at any time when the plant is actively growing. Sorry but I don't know what July means in terms of seasons where you are vs where I am.

Great video!! I’m in the southern part of the United States (zone 7) and I bought a Satsuki this past spring. Back in November it had one bloom. Will a Satsuki bloom that late in the year? I’m worried they didn’t sell me a true Satsuki.

That’s hard for me to answer. There are many reason why your tree may not have flowered as it should it. Best would be to ask the nursery you bought it from. For example if they imported it recently (which is possible in the USA) then it may have already flowered by the time you bought it. However there might be other reasons too.
