Billie knows that songs don’t need to be belted out (as a lot of young singers often do) to express emotion. Belting out songs loudly, if not done well, could come across insincere. She knows how to do it with a gentle voice. I wonder if she’s a Classically trained musician? Classical music tends to use dynamics and timing more to express different emotions. Whereas, modern music can often lack that. Having a music background myself, I sense a bit of a jazz influence in this song too.
