Wowser! So glad I was directed to you! Marsha Willets Clark posted your fb post in our group, in which was the link for this video. I don't have enough scraps for barely a child size quilt but now I know what to set aside & how to sort them. Thank you!

Fabulous tutorial. I just spent two days struggling with weird math to create a similar 3-inch block. Kate, from the Last Homely House, sent us over to you. I am so grateful she did. This is exactly what I needed to get started on my Christmas gift idea. Thank you! I look forward to seeing your other offerings.

Oh you're welcome Terry! I shared your tip with Kate at The Last Homely House as she is the one who suggested we take a look at your video on the scrappy squares for your Colorwash Quilt. I've watched her stitching up lots of blocks while chatting with us on KZbin. It was fun to see your method and to understand now why she calls her scrap project "Terry Blocks". Love it!

Rolling the scrapes in a flannel backed tablecloth, is a great idea for laying out your scraps. If you don't have a design wall. Which I don't but rolling it up in the tablecloth and unrolling it. Is a wonderful option to starting it up again. Thank you for such a great tip.

Hooray! I'm a non-quilter, but a dear friend is an avid quilter, and I used assist her with fabric sorting & pressing until illness prevented her from quilting for over a year. I'm so looking forward to assisting her again when she is able to return to her beloved hobby, because it's such a lovely, peaceful way to share our time together. She has a room chock-full of bins filled with scraps I've pressed and color sorted for her. I think that a project like this is something that I can help her with. I can piece together 3 1/2" squares for her using whatever fabric she tells me use. Then I can help her with the color washing layout on her vertical board by having her choose the blocks from a tray in her lap, and showing me where to set them by using a laser pointer! I can hardly wait to watch this video again, but this time with and a cup of tea; I hope this will be a project she will feel well enough to attempt together! If so, I'll post our progress or send pics. A big THANK YOU from the Pacific Northwest, USA

Terry, after watching this video a few weeks ago, I began going through my scraps and found making these squares to be quite addictive. What a great way to use the smallest of scraps and have a lovely effect. I've made six 18" square pillows with 25 blocks each and a 2" border around the perimeter, then quilting about 1/4" from the edges of the blocks. I also started a small quilt with this technique to try out your color wash. So pleased with the results. Thank you so much for this wonderful tip! Very much appreciated!

Thank you, I also arrived here via Homely House. I love scrap quilts, I am currently sewing sari ribbon that turned out to be too low quality to use on a different project. As the ribbon isn’t very stable I am sewing onto calico blocks and some are very crazy and I follow the ribbon, sometimes sewing squiggles rather than regimental sewing stripes. Occasionally I end up with gaps but I will use fabric paint when I see the quilt front and this helps to bring the whole to look more together. I now keep my too small to sew with scraps to use as stuffing for toys etc. I made a set of hams for a friend which are stuffed this way. As a result very little gets thrown for ragging. Again, thank you for your very inspiring and restful video.

Yes you can buy scraps, but I like being able to say I remember this quilt, and this one, etc. Or if you can do a scrap swap with a guild or other group, that can be fun too. This is a great idea and since you start with 3" finished, one can use scraps that finish at any 3" divisor. One could have a 15" finished square with various scraps in the same color family and have the same scrap in the middle of all of your blocks (like gold or a metallic) for continuity as well as having high contrast middle pieces in other blocks. One could even make a complete colorwashed block from 3" inch strips to make a 15" finished block that goes from dark blue on one corner to medium blue in the diagonal corner and then take the smaller 3" blocks and surround it to continue the wash. Take the dark blue to dark green on one end and the medium blue to light blue on the other side. Thanks for the inspiration!

This is genius - and very generous of you to share what amounts to an online workshop. I’ve always been intimidated by quilting as it looks as if you have to be meticulous but you method makes it less scary! Thank you so much. PS the quilt behind you reminds me of a Klimt painting, gorgeous.

Kate sent me as well! This is inspiring to many of us! I think I’ll actually stagger my rows a bit, so there will be absolutely no matching seams. I love the colour wash tips! I also think your piecing technique would be a great stress-free method for using scraps to make a temperature quilt! I’m now subscribed to your channel. Stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦

Wouldn't it be cool if you used a lot of fabrics with metallic accents?

I love this and can't wait to do it. The beauty of this is that you could make anything with it. You could make a table runner a full-size quilt, a small quilt, a wall hanging a tote bag anything! It would be a wonderful class to teach beginning to experienced quilters and people could share their scraps with each other, I love it

Yes Gail it is so versatile There are many guilds and sew groups that are making blocks, swapping blocks, swapping scraps, making charity Quilts and raffle quilts by using my simple scrap blocks. I am over the moon excited to see each and every one that is made. I hope you enjoy your journey through your scraps

I love this! There is some "loose" organization but it essentially kind of lets you run free with whatever you want to use! I haven't been very inspired lately but I am now! Thanks for the great tutorial and inspiration!!!

Thank you for the tutorial, I will watch more tomorrow, as colorwash is working out of my box. I love making scrap quilts, but almost always with a distinct pattern in it and using white or very dark to give the quilt structure and make it easy on the eyes. So when I saw what Kate was up to, and giving us the tip to watch you for a really good tutorial, I got curious. I want to learn more about the thinking behind color wash, and I’ve got plenty of scraps to give it a try. 😊

I’m a newbie and just finished my very first quilt from scraps leftover when I was involved in Facebook group making mask for different organizations when Covid was soaring I had a lot of scraps. So I’m still learning different techniques for making quilts this video has certainly helped me tremendously, thank you for taking the time I really like scrapie quilts…🦋🦋🦋

Kate from LHH mentioned your KZbin. Your KZbin had been recommended by a fellow quilter and I'm entranced by this method. Thanks so much.

Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa. What an absolute brilliant tutorial. I surely am going to do this but instead of making a quilt, it will be used for tote bag panels! Brilliant. Thank you! And thank you to Kate from the Last Homely House that mentioned you.
