Thats where im at with it all the time man, couldn't have said it better myself. Im just starting my youtube channel and im not in love with the image im getting from my 24-70 gmaster and been entertaining getting a 24mm 1.4 because i really want a sharp wide prime. I even tested out the 12-24 the other day in the store with my camera and the test footage is effin bananas!! Like i was mind blown. Anyways the struggle continues lol
@clydealmeida3 жыл бұрын
I think the only logical sense from this trade is, you've got a much more expensive lens for a lot less. Other than that ...the rest of ur reasons don't make sense cos a prime has its place and a zoom lens has its place too. When shooting with a prime...ur mind shouldn't be even considering shots at other focal lengths. Also the decision to put on a prime lens on ur body in the first place is based on what you are about to shoot. If u r gonna be shooting a scene where u are the only photographer and the client is expecting a variety of photos, then u either have 2 bodies with primes on them or a single body with a zoom that covers the focal ranges of both the primes or have 2 photographers. So yea ...I think you need both..the prime and the zoom and use them as per requirement of the job. I think u know this and that the only real reason you went ahead with the deal is cos u were getting the better end of itl. With the money saved from the exchange, you are going to buy the 24mm 1.4 back in some time. Haha..only time will tell!

When I first started doing weddings years ago, I used a 24-70 because that's what was taught to do. Years later when I switched to Sony, I traded my zooms for f/1.4 primes and two dual cameras. That kinda worked for a while, but then I got the Sigma 24-70 and used that for my weddings, and it's been such a relief! I forgot that I could cover 80% of the wedding day with just one camera and lens, and just switch to a 14-24 or 70-200 for the little bit of time that I would need them. The other advantage was that with that particular lens, the minimum autofocus distance is INSANELY close..like to the tip of the lens hood close, which makes it perfect for detail and pseudo-macro shots! Some say that primes are sharper than zooms, but that's relative. Some say that the bokeh is better on primes, but that's also relative, and dependent on personal preference. Sure, you'll get 2-stops of light difference for less noise, but the Sony files give lots of room for adjusting and noise reduction in editing. Regardless, it is always good to use the gear that works for YOU!

Thank you for this comment. I currently own 2 prime lenses from the sigma trio for my APS-C and I will upgrade to a full frame in the future. I shoot families on occasion but I mainly use my camera for making contents, as that’s how I am learning. Even in a controlled environment like mine, I already find changing lenses to be a hassle especially when I use a gimbal. I can imagine that being more so for you on your wedding shoots. I am definitely considering the 24-70. Cheers.

My wife and I just went the opposite direction. A big reason we can do that is that we have 2 camera bodies. So we will be using the 24mm f/1.4 and the 85mm f/1.4. Thats why I like the combo of 24, 55 & 24-105 - can break out the zoom if you get sick of changing lenses. But if I was doing paid work I’d go for two bodies - stick the 24 on one and a 55 or 85 on the other. That’s a no compromise setup that’s easier to use.
@biohazard20302 жыл бұрын
You’re not crazy. I bought a Sigma 24-70 when I bought my A7C and it’s literally the only lens I own and I use it for everything! However now that I have the A7IV I wish I had Sony G master so I could have better active stabilization on top of that new focus breathing compensation feature that added
@TheLDunn14 жыл бұрын
The other option would have been to have kept the 24/1.4 & I think you mentioned in a prior video that you had a 85GM already, so just to have bought a second body. This way, you’d have instant access to both 24 & 85 and both at 1.4, and if you are doing paid work, it also gives you the safety net of a back up body should something go wrong.

It all depends on ur needs and what genre you are specialised in. I totally get it. I have an 85mm GM and hated swopping out lenses all the time. So got the Sigma 24 to 70mm and never looked back

4:38 Probably you need a second camera, one with a specialized lens?

😂😂😂Terry putting the G in G-Prime. Your personality alone is worth the follow, but you got great content too! I'm a beginner and my set up is the A7iii with the 24mm 1.4. I love the final stop and this lens! Although I hardly know how to wield it's power, and I wonder why I didn't go with a more versatile zoom for my first. Oh well!

I only shoot videos, mostly on gimbals… I own a7s3 and 24 1.4 / zeiss 55 1.8 / batis 85 1.8. I think I’ll sell all three to buy 16-35 2.8 gm. What you guys think??

That's a real lucky swap man, value wise. But since I ain't jacked like you, I went with the Sigma 28-70 + Sony 20 1.8. That's all my puny arms can handle! 😂 Tell you what though, that combo punches way above its weight class (and price tag). Keep up the good work!

The video looked great! The crop lens doesn't look bad at all!

I would like to see what you think bout the Tamron 35-150mm 2.0-2.8

I have it in hands right now. I’ve been talking about it a lot on my Twitter and IG. Video coming in the next week

Hey Terry Congrats. I have them both and as long as your ok with the weight man keep that lens it's a great deal and it's a very sharp lens. Don't trade it for the Tamron I had it as well no. Not as sharp and you can see the difference. I also own the Tamron, the Tamron does have more of a warmer feeling and it's super lightweight and a little tight on the wide end being 28mm . The 24-70gm is all most to clean and the sharpness is well you said it, its like having a prime all the way though, its a great lens. The 24gm is one of the best lens because it's really a full package lightweight, sharp and fast. I wish sonys whole GM line was like that. Anyway love your content and keep up the great work you'll be at 100k soon buddy. Stay Blessed

Hi! Great video! Glad you mentioned the Sigma 16mm dc I'm thinking of Samyang 18mm 2.8 or the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for real estate. Any suggestions? Btw I subscribed can't wait to see more videos love your personality and flow
@TerryWarfield4 жыл бұрын
For real estate you will typically want to be find a lens that’s between 12-16mm. The sigma 16mm f1.4 is a crop lens, so no matter the camera you put it on, the effective field of view you will get with it is about 24mm. I would look at a full frame wide lens for real estate. Having a 24mm focal length for small rooms like bathrooms can be VERY challenging to work with

@@TerryWarfield thanks for replying greatly appreciate it! I need a budget lens starting out and it's going to more than likely have to be a prime. I'll keep looking for a used one. Thanks so much!

It’s honestly more than good enough. Only us snobs love shooting at 1.4 lol

Entertaining vid. Most use full lens out for most people. The best solution for working commercially would of been to have 2 pro bodies with the 2 different lens. But hey , I can't afford ( really that means justify $$$ ) that anyway.

I have a second body (a7iii) I just hate lugging two cameras unless I have to lol

Nice 👍 I also sold my 24mm 1.4gm after one year..it's a great lens but too wide. I think 35mm 1.4 GM will be soon announced.

I struggle between my 24 to 70 vs my sigma 35mm 1.4....shooting video, the look I achieve with 35mm 1.4 separates me from the pack of other sony shooters in my area. It's like my secret sauce😆. Although I love my 24 to 70, the 1.4 gives me the edge. However that 1.4 on a wide lens like the 24mm isn't so important in my opinion, so I think you made the right choice. I hate swapping lenses bro
@smepable4 жыл бұрын
Well you could just use 2 cameras, one with a 24, the other with 50mm, if you use APSC crop mode u can cover 24, 35, 50, 85mm.
