Right now we are transitioning from the Sigma 14-24, Sony 35 1.8 and Zeiss 50 1.4 to 14GM, 35GM and 50GM. We absolutely adore using our 135GM. The 70-200GM hardly sees any use since we got it. 24GM is another favourite. The 85GM has a very nice image, but we will exchange it as soon as Sony makes a refresh. For macro we use the 90 and 24 Probe and for super long shots we also love the 200-600G. In the past we had the Tamrons 17-28 and 28-75 and the Samyang 85 1.4. Loved all three of them. But with the new class of primes Sony has been pushing out we are just gushing at the performance.

How are you finding the switch? Anything you miss from the Komodo that the Sony doesn't do particularly well? And does the 'look' compare? (sorry for questions, i just put a downpayment on an FX3 myself!)
@Eric.Estrada3 жыл бұрын
@@stevewelsh__ to be honest, I love the FX3. The "look" is almost exactly the same. Now, this could be that I am shooting Sigma Art glass on the FX3, which was also my favorite on Komodo. I ran many Tokina Cine lenses on Komodo, but always found myself reaching for the Sigma Art 18-35. The Menu's on Komodo are a thousand times easier to use, I loved the stop lights for exposure. The screen on FX3 is tiny, menu is difficult to navigate. But the camera is half the price (as a ready to shoot rig) and the FX3 is much better suited for my style of run & gun shooting in the outdoors. the image is cleaner, less noisey than Komodo. Main thing I miss though, is having shutter angle instead of shutter speed.
@stevewelsh__3 жыл бұрын
@@Eric.Estrada thanks for the detailed reply! It’s comforting to know that these 2 are quite comparable but like you I need the camera in an instant for my shoots (product videos mainly). 2.8 to 4 is so minimal for "bokeh". The 24-105 compared to a 24-70 is such a superior lens especially with the IS. The extra stop of light is less important with the high iso capability these days. If you really need low light power go with a prime.

Very cool video! Personal 2 cents - photo and video do differ, so for a photographer such kit won't work. After years of doing photography as a hobby I've come to a conclusion that the best kit is two zooms (16-35 Sony (which I want to replace my 24-70) and 70-180 Tamron) and two primes ( haven't finalized my picks yet, but at the moment I'm leaning towards 35 mm and 85mm). If budget is unlimited and Gear Acquisition Syndrome is not a problem - I would add 20m, 135mm and 200-600. And I wish A7R4 had the same stabilization as the S-series... Again, thanks for the video, great job!!

Thanks. I buy f4 zooms and f0.90-f2.0 primes only. I have found f1.8 to be the value sweet-spot for primes on Sony mount. And f2 the value sweet spot on Nikon F mount and Leica M mount. So 👍 on this video.

Such a good review and brilliant, thoughtful advice. So glad I stumbled on this 2 years later 😂

Aww I love my 16-35mm f4, I used it on most of my van channel videos! I too have the 55mm 1.8 but don't use it a ton unless I need lower light capabilities. And the 70-200 f4 I use quite a bit, did you consider that one at all? Surprisingly small and light.
