btw idk if people bothered you about this or not but I don't see any comments on it. You say "A-gill-i-tee" with a hard G at the beginning of the video. The word is pronounced with a silent G, so it's like a-jill-i-tee. Your english sounds like possibly a second language though? and if that is true it's amazing how good at it you are

I recieved it as a birthday gift along with that phone book sized strategy guide. As a 15 year old and with the internet nothing like it is today, that book was virtually essential. Especially to a noob like myself who had never played an rpg in his life. Great frikkin game. Glad you found a full set. I think the daedric style from Morrowind was the coolest looking of all the games, not to be a "purest" by any means I just think it was the most creative, daedric specifically.

Acrobats works great as a minor skill. Extremely easy to level up without using a trainer, which advances your character level. and it’s a universally beneficial skill. Jump running is faster than not jumping, and jumping to untouchable areas is also an excellent way to cheese a tough battle.

You guys clearly weren't around on the forums back in the day where min-maxers would have a fit if you said you chose acrobatics and athletics as anything but misc. skills lol Anyways, it was probably a badly executed joke on my part, but there is some truth to it. Having acrobatics and especially athletics as skills you gain level progress from takes away the control of when to level from the player, though this is not as important in Morrowind as it is in Oblivion with its broken level scaling system

Morrowind is still my favorite game of all time. I still listen to Jeremy Soules OST of Morrowind and Oblivion most nights. I have seen footage of the Skywind Morrowind and the Beyond Skyrim Morrowind, but it does sadden me that it lacks that soul, that lackluster and excitement I expected. I never knew of the original concept and the massiveness of Morrowind that wasn't. I'd phone call my mate simultaneously us both playing Morrowind, neither of us having a true bearing at the next mysterious cave we might find... The days before fast travel except for a Silt Strider. Finding so Constant Effect items like heroic artifacts you sought hard to come across. Julien I wish, I still want him to expand on this story. Ideas of the Black Marshes, the Origins of the Dwemmer, those catchphrases like "you N'wah" and "Filthy Swit". Morrowind was my Lord of the Rings, a game so encapturing that you imagined yours on ideas about what could go on when the game was turned off or that hill you didn't have time to reach. Thank you for this.

I just finished my first morrowind playthrough, I actually had athletics as one of my major skills, it kinda helps you in the early game if you go heavy armour and you are impatient about your running speed but it gets useless in the late game. I just love how alien and strange this game world it's, casual racism, slavery, 300+ years old dark elves supremacists mages, a bubonic plague who zombifies its victims, the last obese arachnotron dwemer who is also infected with corprus, the fact that you can kill pterodactyls with shuriken stars, you can kill a GOD and a GODDESS, the tribunal temple has literal demons as slaves and the crazy lore in books and conversations. They don't makes games like this these days. Anyway your video it's fantastic, it's a shame you only have 200+ subs, your videos are TOP QUALITY, keep up the good work :)

12:08, lol, yeah I love how he, and the designers, just say straight up "go and get some experience in the area first. Settle in, look natural, THEN come back to me for missions of importance." While it would be understandbale to also ask one's operative to stay close and not do anything risky in the world before possibly important missions, this "go and get experience" approach also has a sense of being organic, realistic, and under-represented in games. And hey, you would want a newly released prisoner to get their barings and develop some social skills first before sending them out into the world to accomplish your goals xD

What I liked about Morrowind's dungeons in the vanilla game is that many of them are short and unique, there are few slogs. (Tribunal sewers are where it went downhill) Later games every dungeon has to be a 2 hour trek with absolutely every idea utilised so they are all the same (Skyrim).

First played Morrowind some time after the release, in 2004. I found many aspects of its gameplay clunky and a little distracting, but the more I travelled around the island, spoke, read, listened, the more it sucked me in. The atmosphere is unmatched, and I still haven’t seen a game world that combined high concepts and details so well. These cultures, faiths, politics, myths - all complex, with many facets, and thus believable. It managed to present what’s at first glance a race of xenophobic slavers as sympathetic, if troubled, people who you wanted to learn more about and help. Exceptional immersion.

I loved the world of Morrowind. It's so dark, gritty, atmospheric, adventurous, and beautiful. The culture seemed so rich, from the architecture to the clothes. I love the subtle hints to the history that you have to piece together yourself. It has this quiet, elegance that you would expect from an ancient land of dark elves. Exploring was the best part of Morrowind, and it gave you time to really immerse yourself in the world and feel more freeing. And as limited as the soundtrack was, it felt more impactful, like it was the soundtrack of the land more than one of the protagonist.

I always assumed that the prophecy is just a way for Azura to craft a worthy champion to do her bidding, e.g get rid of the selfmade gods, and that the pc is not really Nerevar reborn in the literal sense. This would also explain why the cave is full of failed incarnates: "Nerevarine" is a title, given to someone who passed Azura's trials and not truly the reincarnation of Nerevar.

@MattRiley-un4nk
@MattRiley-un4nk Ай бұрын
I could be misremembering but I thought the whole point of the failed incarnates is that while people fulfilled parts of the prophecy to become the reincarnation of Nerevar/Nerevarine, they didn't fully fulfil the prophecy fully. When you talk to the incarnates they basically tell you why they failed or which parts they didn't fulfil iirc. Not to mention I think it's a great plot device because the PC isn't truly the Nerevarine up until the trials are finished, as opposed to someone born destined for greatness already like the envisioned Hero of Kvatch or the Dragonborn. Anyone in Morrowind could in theory be the Nerevarine. I don't know how much I'm teaching people to suck eggs here, but the whole point of the Nerevarine was a way for Azura to get revenge on the tribunal without them knowing who it would be as it could be anyone (until the trials were fulfilled), so they couldn't use their oppression to prevent/kill the Nerevarine (without doing what they did which was silence people from talking about it).

At long last I have broken my habit of restarting it with a new character, it finally feels wonderful. I am playing a religious Apothecary with a grudge against the Cyrdolian empire, and to that end she is an Initiate in the temple, has an apartment in Vivec where she collects alchemical supplies, books on Dunmeri history and religion as well as curious artifacts she finds. The artifacts thus far are a Dwemer staff and an Orichalcum axe. Oh, and she has a few scrolls for tourists on the major cities and regions of Vvardenfell. The plan for her to become a heretic and gather Daedric and Velothi lore, while living in the holy city and working part time for the temple, and eventually have her try to join house Indoril. She does have her own unique fire spells, a few magical items, and have created magical reservoir potions to compensate for her mediocre talents. And at this point, she is only level 4.

Great work on this video. Of course, people who watch it are Morrowind fans, so positivity about the game is very welcome. I have really enjoyed the trilogy Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. They're somewhat different games, but certain aspects of gameplay are persistent. It's a great balance, also the sense of an overarching universe is there. As for Morrowind, it's a sandbox game, before it was really popular. The developers left enough freedom so that you can replay this RPG more times than other games.

I love Morrowind, it is seriously my favorite game of all time, and I have played ALOT of games from all genres and all systems (PC is the best hands down). I probably barely have done half of the game, with a lot of different play throughs and a shit load of hours it is embarrassing. I swear it is huge let alone doing all the quests in the game and I mean EVERY quest. Then with the expansions you get even more to explore and kill and loot and immersive lore and a lot of other RPG elements that is like crack for us hardcore fans. It is the most immersive game I have ever played. Great video! Like this shit guys!

@@songbird6414 It's entirely possible that the title of "Nerevarine" is used by Azura to describe someone for their deeds and if they fulfill the prophecy as opposed to literally being the reincarnation of Indoril Nerevar. Notice the ghosts in the shrine are the failed incarnates, not the false incarnates, meaning they could or could not be reincarnations of Nerevar, but just didn't fulfill the prophecies for one reason or another. Uriel Septim and Azura could have just seen you were the right person at the right time. Also, the wise woman says "you are not the Nerevarine, but you may become the Nerevarine," which implies it's a title given to someone. Dagoth Gares and Dagoth Ur recognize you as Nerevar before Azura does however, so it's possible that the Nerevarine is both a title that you must become (like mantling) as well as something you are born with.

Its a vague prophacy that becomes a description of what must come to pass. A man born in a hospital will arrive in the Olympic stadium. He will defeat the reigning mens Olympic 200m champion in the final race taking the world record. He will face many challenges to get there. First he must show himself fleet of foot to his earliest instructors. The next trial is to defeat his formative peers both locally, nationally and then internationally. Sponsorship he must obtain from the Great Brands. Following National success he will receive Olympic funding from his government. Many days he will be seen training. Neither distraction of injury shall derail his rise to be Olympic champion and world record holder. Many will claim to be the fordestined champion but they shall fail before the chosen one shall be revealed by his deads.

This is my favorite kind of combat. This and Mass Effect 1, were in first and third person view, but the ability to succeed in combat, were entirely based on the characters stats and not the players ability to press buttons. It made it far more immersive and like a RPG in my opinion. Yes it's frustrating when you miss what feels like it was a hit, but you have to use imagination somewhat.. your enemy is dodging, blocking, the players character is huffing and puffing, not skilled with the weapon, etc.

It's interesting how Morrowind is technically smaller than most other elder scrolls games but it feels so much larger. I remember as a kid I got lost in vivec for probably 10 hours the first time I got there
@FromHerotoZeroYT
@FromHerotoZeroYT 6 ай бұрын
I think part of it is how dense the following games are and how much easier it is to discover caves and such since they pop up on your compass when you're within a certain distance from them. I think Vivec gets a lot of undeserved flack for being too complex but it can be a bit cumbersome to navigate if you're not used to using the local map and asking guards for directions. I like it though, and it's kinda sad how we'll likely never see anything else like it again from a TES game

Eh, it was kind of a joke to begin with, but there is some truth to it. It is a good way to gain some speed and Strength early on tho

That Thong amulet probably isn't a piece of underwear. A thong is only more recently considered a piece of underwear, historically it was more likely to refer to a narrow strip of leather used as a fasten or hold something. So that Thong item is probably an amulet crudely tied to a thin strip of leather.

You mention that Bloodmoon questline where your choice makes a proper difference, and that these kinds of things didn't happen in the main game. The Fighters' Guild questline does have a pretty significant split towards the end where you can either follow Sjoring Hard-Heart's orders even though he seems a little too brutal, or if you talk to Percius Mercius (who Caius Cosades has mentioned that he trusts) you'll find out that Sjoring is corrupt and is working with the criminal Camonna Tong syndicate to eradicate the Thieves' Guild. One quest giver will have you kill some key Thieves' Guild leaders, and the other will task you with weeding out the corrupt Fighters' Guild leaders (one of whom you may already have bribed during a Thieves' Guild quest). I think this questline is thrilling as hell personally.

I like the meta plot with Azura and the uncertainty of her prophecy being a case of you born to a role or being self made to fulfill the role. You talk about the books in the game and Azura and the box really hits the point of the game on the head. Azura's power seems to go both ways; being accurate and being proven wrong. The big point of the game in my opinion is that being preordained to do something Isn't probable, but if you put in the work and follow the steps it wont matter anyways because the results will be the same.

The pack in map showed the location of literally every overworld cave, mine, shrine, tomb, stronghold, etc on the island. The Daedric shrines were even all named, so long as you could decipher Daedric. I swear, gamers have gotten so used to constant hand holding that they're near useless without an arrow and radar to follow. Not only do those things break immersion, but they preclude the joy of discovery that you feel from exploration. Exploration is nearly nonexistent in games today. Following an arrow to a location is not exploring, no matter how cool the location is when you get there. I don't understand how the same generation of gamers that made waypoint arrows, colored "follow me" lines and radars necessary is the same generation that made Minecraft successful. Good luck if you ever try and tackle the Outer Wilds without cheating. All of the above plus a crash course in theoretical quantum physics. Or you can be led by the hand using a guide and complain about how little there was in the game. It's alright to be temporarily defeated by a game. That's how they're supposed to be designed.

@@willrichtor Yes the map was good however the directions to get there are terrible. And it's not due to the generation of being hand held. One guy who got this game on release also struggled to find quest locations. If the directions were correct and not over complicated than it would've been a breeze. I went through Oblivion and then Skyrim before this game so admittedly it was very disorientating in n terms of graphics. But boy was this game immersive in the sense where is gave you a sense of belonging to the world. It makes you feel like after all the hard work. I once stayed up for four days straight playing Morrowind. What I did during those four days is a blur but I know I had a blast.

I wish I could still do that. Like, I probably wouldn't because you know, risk of death and all that but still

@@FromHerotoZeroYT lol, Yeah, I was in my early 20's at the time (I'm in my 40's now). I can't stay up for more than 24 hours now without feeling like I'm going to pass out. lol

15:55 See, this is a perfect example of still learning something new in Morrowind nearly 20 years later. I had no idea trying to merely alter a dwemer item is illegal.

Someone else pointed out that they might have attacked because I tried to use one of the soul gems I stole from her during the first 5 hours of gameplay. I didn't remember doing that of course so I was really confused of why everyone in the Mages Guild got so mad lol

Great retrospective! Silly of me to comment on a 3 year old video... but I feel compelled to point out. The spirits in Azura's shrine are not previous incarnations of Nerevar. This is one of the really subtle but extremely important plot points of the game. You aren't special, you aren't Nerevar reborn, at least not the way we tend to think of it in literature and media. You and those who's bodies and spirits lie in Azura's shrine are those who *could* live up to the story of Nerevar because you fit the parts of the prophecy that are out of your control and have taken up the call. But the rest of the prophecy can only be fulfilled by you and that's by design. You didn't become Hortator and Neravarine because you were fated to do so, you did it because they needed to be done to unite the people of Vvardenfell and you were up to the challenge. A number of NPC's will intentionally conflate you with Nerevar either because they believe the propaganda, or need others to believe it. While NPC's who are a little better versed tend to be on the fence or convinced that you're not Nerevar but certainly what the world needs regardless. The only stand-out being Dagoth Ur himself who talks to you as if you are Nerevar, but then when you talk to him in the end he asks if you are revealing his own uncertainty.

I don't think it's silly at all! Thanks for taking the time to comment :) I think the souls in the cave not being Nerevar reborn is kinda playing into my point there of how Azura is probably just choosing people who fall under the preliminary prophecies of when they're born and such even if they're not actually the true incarnation of Nerevar. Throw it at the wall until it sticks, you know? As for if I properly presented those thoughts well enough in the video is a different case, but it's been a while so forgive me if I misremember

@@FromHerotoZeroYT It can go even deeper, what if Azura never picked any of them to begin with? They are just people who thought they might fulfil the prophecy and as such went down the same path as you of their own volition? I'm pretty sure it like a lot of the other things in Morrowind is intentionally vague so that you can build your own philosophy around it. Either way, you must be right that Azura created the prophecy and either by her design or as an accident along the way it led those people to their deaths. Maybe their deaths were a part of the greater prophecy to begin with, so that they could be there to impart the Nerevarine with their wisdom ensuring the success of the prophecy.
