I have Enhanced Autopilot, and even FSD (which I Beta tested, but then asked to be removed). Once, when I took my Model 3 to the Service Center, they provided me a "standard" loaner with Basic Autopilot. I liked it so much that I concluded to never again pay for EAP. Just not worth it. It was more than enough for my driving needs. And changing lanes manually was no big deal.
@mywifestesla2 жыл бұрын
Interesting perspective and thanks for sharing. I've only had the opportunity to use EAP once on my new Model 3. For the most part it was ok, but there was an instance where it made me a little nervous merging onto another highway that had multiple lanes on the entrance ramp. It started to get confused and I had to take over. So verdict is definitely still out.
@Mikey-np1gg8 ай бұрын
They are improving FSD all the time. Recently with the free FSD for a month promo I have been using it extensively. It basically drives itself through city traffic. And on the highways it is good most of the time. It has some issues with complicated lane merging and will frequently bail, but then I jump in, straighten things out and reset it. So you have to pay attention but it really does lessen the load on you the driver. I really like FSD mostly for heavy city stop and go traffic. Its really quite amazing.

I suck at multitasking, sometimes when I’m checking mirrors etc to check for blind spot I accidentally slows down or steering to the line, autopilot can help me with those and makes it much easier to focus on checking mirrors and lane change.

I just got our first Model Y. We sold our CRv Touring. The CRv had cruise control, lane control and auto distance control. It worked extremely well. I drove most of yesterday -Toronto to Detroit and back. I find the basic autopilot to be too sensitive. It would change lanes well when I put on the blinker. However, you are reminded to steer gently so you stay safe but it is overly sensitive and the autopilot would kick out with only a minor manual adjustment. When it kicks out, the car jerks. This is disconcerting. It is either because the car starts to ‘brake’ instantly prior to getting your foot on the gas or it just jerks for some other reason. I love most everything else but Honda wins for the ease of using the auto-features.

I’ve had the same observations. Had to rent a vehicle while traveling recently, it was a Toyota with their adaptive cruise control system. It was far better than what Basic Autopilot is in the Tesla.

Great video! Isn’t basic auto pilot just adaptive cruise control? That’s what have on my ‘19 VW Tiguan…it doesn’t engage unless I press on the brakes though..doesn’t basic auto pilot recognizes stop lights and or stop signs and stop the vehicle?
@mywifestesla Жыл бұрын
Basic autopilot consists of adaptive cruise control and auto steer which basically keeps you centered in your lane. It does not recognize stop lights or stop signs, you would need Full Self Driving (FSD) for that.

As expensive as Tesla vehicles are, I'm amazed that more features from enhanced autopilot aren't automatically included in basic autopilot. I just took home a 2023 model 3, and just about everything within EAP isn't worth thousands of dollars, never mind the fact that three of the five features are completely useless right now because of the removal of the ultrasonic sensors. Summon - This really should be free in basic autopilot. Being able to inch your car forwards or backwards should not cost $6,000. Smart summon - This is nothing more than a gimmick. It's still far too unreliable to be trusted to work properly in a busy parking lot, which is disappointing because that's what this feature was designed for. Auto park - while a nice feature, it can sometimes take the car far too long to park. I can do it in less than half the time, which again doesn't make sense for this to cost $6,000. Auto lane change and navigate on autopilot - The only two worthwhile features in EAP, and Tesla knows this. They're counting on those two features to be the driving force behind people willing to spend the thousands of dollars that they're asking for within this package, and it's just not worth it. At the end of the day, I think Tesla should abandon EAP and sell the features individually. Tesla can turn more of a profit if they just let people purchase the features they want instead of grouping them together in an overpriced package. One day supply will catch up with demand, and when that day comes Tesla will have thousands upon thousands of vehicles out there not taking advantage of the very software they've invested in. When that day comes they'll have no choice but to lower the price of not just EAP, but FSD as well.

Great comment. Still annoyed that I can’t use 3 of the 5 features I purchased in EAP, even if they are gimmicky.

@@mywifestesla I was definitely torn on getting EAP, but I'm glad that I optioned not to upon hearing that they were removing the USS. I definitely sympathize with you, because without a firm date set for Tesla vision, this transition could take months. And for consumers like yourself that paid $6,000, I feel like the least Tesla can do is give you temporarily free FSD or something similar to make up for the fact that you're paying for features that you can't take advantage of yet.

Great video. I just put in an order for a basic model 3. I am leasing this time because I believe the technology changes rapidly and I like the low cost option of $349 now. For me it will be closer to $440 with tax but I find that to be a bargain with this technology. What do you think is a reasonable amount for an electrician to install wall charger? Ball park. Any thing you would do differently? Thanks.

It wasn't clear to what degree or why you were changing lanes on the highway. I hope it wasn't "to get there faster" because _'Mythbusters'_ showed, pretty convincingly, that the 'pick a lane and stick with it' method gets you to your destination faster than the 'weave in and out' method. For my commute on the freeway, once I am in one of the middle lanes and have matched the flow of traffic, I am good until I need to shift to an outer lane to exit. So basic will probably suit me.

IMO - Tesla disrupted the auto industry when they first came out with Autopilot, but let's fact it, the other manufactures are catching up. They are putting all their effort into trying to get FSD ready for prime time. AP and EHP can be buggy, and I wish they'd put more focus on improving those products.

@@yoavmelamed1522 I think it's because Tesla has now become a famous brand that embodies the EV, technology, and self-driving spaces while being viewed to average people as luxury even if the specific model you buy might not be. So whether you want to buy an EV that could be anything from sedan, family car/SUV, pickup truck, semi truck, etc, Tesla is the company that first comes to mind for the average person. Tesla doesn't even spend much/any money on advertisements, commercials, or marketing and yet they're able to have a massive presence over their competition who are now producing competitive EVs and advertising/marketing them. Their competition needs to make themselves widely known while producing EVs that the average person can afford/may want to buy.

I agree. I had a Sante Fe and is labeled as "driver assist". You had some tolerance on the your input on the wheel and does not dis engage the setting as long as you turn on your signals. This was so annoying when I tried it on my Tesla as it really wants to just take over and keep turning on the autopilot when changing lanes.

Can you comment on whether the enhanced autopilot is useful for someone making frequent long-distance trips on the highway? I am thinking since most of it is a straight line, the EAP might only come in handy on city highways?
@mywifestesla Жыл бұрын
Short answer is yes. I use it all the time for my longer highway drives, especially auto lane change, and I find it very useful. Basic autopilot will disengage every time you change lanes, EAP does not. Having said that, is it worth the $6K cost, absolutely not.

You can also do lane change on highways with basic autopilot.

The problem is that drivers are being told that driving is tedious. It isn’t! Then they’re being told that the solution lies in software. It doesn’t! If drivers are being told that disengaging from driving and handing responsibility to a dysfunctional software programme is the solution, what they’re actually doing is handing over their freedom to choose. These systems are consistently worse than a very bad driver, so the answer is to improve your standard of driving. Governments make Billions from telling you that speed is everything, while fining those who don’t drive by the numbers because that is what works for them but the reality is that bad driving at any speed is the real issue.

Why not just get a comma3 ADAS? It does the same thing as basic Autopilot but does not shut off when you pass someone on the highway and in "experimental mode" (which has been around for 5 years now and is very safe) your car will stop at traffic lights and stop signs. I've had my comma3 since 2021 and amazed that it's still the best and most reliable ADAS on the market! It does work best on Kias and pre-2023 Toyotas.
