Tesla Battery Swap and a Creature INVASION | Fix it Friday | Sailing The Space Between

Last week on Fix it Friday we showed you how he configured a Tesla power pack to power The Space Between. This week we change out power systems once again, removing the Leaf power packs and replacing them with Tesla Power packs. And if that isn't an exciting enough reason to tune in, we also tear apart the boat in an attempt to find what's scratching at the ceiling. If you read my blog, you know what we find. The 60v 600AH pack is 36kWh and the 24v 1000AH pack is 24kWh. So the new pack is 33% less energy. a 6 module tesla pack would be 36kWh. not sure how the inverters would effect it.

Wile the math is simple the outcome is not always as a matter of fact it never is. My objective is to see the results as the only constant is the amount of power we use at night at a given temperature. the inverters effect it due to the effectiveness or loss of power thru heat I don't think the Victrons are in the 92% to 98% rang they claim... And dropping the voltage also made my solar charging more effective as solar cells are not set up for 58 volt charging but more like 28 so I was loosing power there with them in series and real-estate is very limited on a boat...

Yea i noticed the big difference in battery capacity and was wondering how that difference was gonna be made up. Yea solar is better is more resistant to shading in parallel. i'm guessing your AC run on 115AC. what about enclosing the batteries in a water tight box and using the cooling tubes they have? getting baked inside a compartment is going to shorten their life. Have you added insulation to the boat?

It would be interesting to see your efficiency results. I was at 12v and I moved to 24v using Schneider and got about 20% more run time on the AC side. I got another boat and decided to invested $5k in Victron to go to 48v. My battery system is S7. They work great for the my 24v inverter but not the best for 24v DC. 3.3 X 7 =23.1v @48v I can DC to DC to 24v and I will gain more efficiency on the AC side

Great video as the STSB onboard power moves to new levels courtesy of Tesla. Is there nothing that the 'Captain Scott' cannot do? All DIY work and now onboard animal catcher added to his growing CV of "Can Do". Well done to you both - behind every great animal catcher is a wife urging him to catch the animal ;)
