I am trying to remove my defective Lemar electric motor, wihtout success: there are 4 screws, top down on the uper flange (inside poriotn) : when removed, I assume that by pulling to nthe motor it should slide form the axle, but it does not, event when pulling hard with an extractor: any other flange to be removed, that I cannot see? or just the metal is stuck ? thank you

On your video Yamaha vs Suzuki, the dinghy debacle E51 in the part were you advertised for the vacation planning there was an image of a sandbar in the shape of a horseshoe. Where is that place? Thanks for your help and keep making wonderful videos.

The bunkers have "explosive safety arcs," or areas that could be blast zones in the case of an accident. Sailing and especially anchoring within those areas is prohibited.

I hate to be a naysayer. But. I suspect the positive comments are from folks who are just browsing and not actually installing a ket an needing some details. You jumped over the only places where detail is needed to show HOW a piece fits in. So pretty much useless. Which way does the part that holds the Pawls go? Which end is up? How does the collar under the deck connect. You show it already done but not HOW to do it. Does it bolt down through the base plate - in to the gear plate? Does that require two people? My installation requires the optional extension. Does it bolt to the gear plate? Or do the bolts go through the motor/gear unit up thru the extension? (Btw,,, the optional extension is a simple spacer with five holes. It cost $500 and order lead time is over three months! That is typical for lewmar parts and the reason I will not buy another lewmar product. ) How do you place the bolts that hold the motor/gear unit in? Are the heads on the top - making reaching to them nearly impossible? Or do the bolts go through the base plate? Solution? You skipped this entire process. Your first try, the winch turned the wrong way. Why? How did you solve that? So you skipped all of the questions where I needed help. Sorry.

I’m thinking of bringing it down next year and would love to get your local knowledge of sailing the keys and anchorages for a 5’ 7” draft. Possible to connect? Craig Miller

Worst review of motors I’ve ever seen. Your comparing apples to oranges. The Yamaha can be bought with an electric start and remote controls to connect to a console. You ham get it with electric tilt too. And I’d rather have a little vibration in the motor than an undiagnosable gas issue. I’d wager you get a kickback from Suzuki after watching this obviously biased review.

@SailingTheSpaceBetween Жыл бұрын
LOL Well if you are going to the Bahamas then definitely not the Yamaha they will go out of there way to steel it and it runs so ruff and under powered. The Suzuki has been running great now for over 4 years just put a raycor filter between the gas tank and motor and I have had no issues.

I feel your pain with pos equipment. It’s so frustrating you almost get so sick of dealing with it, that you don’t even care about the money anymore. My wife and I live in Nebraska, and are putting a 10hp on our white water raft. Mostly to be used on rivers, and lakes etc. Which would you choose? Yamaha, Suzuki, mercury, etc? We will not have a battery, and will only manually start the motor.

After diving in a little deeper, there’s a substantial difference in design quality of the water pump impellers. The Suzuki impeller has tall blades, each only 1/2” wide. The Yamaha has short blades, nearly 2” wide, leaving them prone to shearing off the impeller body, and clogging the narrow passageways. The Yamaha impeller looks eerily similar to the early 90’s Mercury two stroke 15hp, with long, skinny, and fragile blades.

I have a 2001 DF15, bought used, for $900, in 2010. It now has countless hundreds of hours on it, with half being at full throttle, for 25 miles at a time, and the other half bouncing off submerged obstacles. That engine has never missed a lick, and will idle all day long, unattended, if I so choose. I recently picked up a 2008 Yamaha 15, but I’m a little hesitant to swap them out, even tho I stand a good chance to sell the Suzuki for the price I paid for it, after 12yrs of hard use. The thermostat, on the Suzuki, is so readily accessible, I flush the engine via the thermostat opening/housing, allowing inspection of the still original thermostat, every time. I’ve done one timing belt, two sets of plugs, many impellers, and lower unit seals, once. I run a water separator, but standard pump gas. I’m a little leery of the EFI models, but only because after owning nearly every type of outboard, from Hondas, to a built Mercury 2.4,L, Ive never had another serve me better than our trusted little Zuke. I brazed up my own nose cone, mounted it on an adjustable jack plate, with a 9.25 x 12, and it’ll move my son and myself in a wide 14’ Jon boat, at 25mph. Found this video, because I’m debating going with the Yammy.
