Do you charge your Tesla in an apartment already? Did I miss anything?
@Chris-ji4iu2 жыл бұрын
Great video! To answer your question: Yes. I run a 50 foot 30 Amp cord from my dryer outlet (NEMA 10-30). It takes me about 7 minutes to run the cord from my 2nd story condo. I bought a splitter so I can either dry my clothes or charge the car (I cannot do both with blowing the breaker however). I mostly charge at night as I don't want anyone to trip over the cable despite a cable protector I lay across the side walk. One thing I think you missed for condo/apartment: Protecting the Tesla box from the weather. I don't know the official name, but this is the rectangular Tesla-branded piece your home cord plugs into. I noticed it had holes and I didn't want rain/snow seeping in. I took a simple clear plastic storage bin with lid and cut 1/2" slots so the NEMA 10-30 plug and Tesla plug nestle inside. A little duct tape around the cut edges to protect the cords and done. Total cost about US $10. I have a super charger about 7 minutes away from my condo. Not a big deal to drive there and charge; 15 minutes and $15 on average. I can tell you that charging at home is FAR easier and about 1/3 as expensive. I get up to 80% in less than 8 hours and it helps tremendously with planning and saves time. I usually charge at home every other night on average.

Hi Brandon. I’ve had a Model Y for almost 2 years and the majority of my charging is Level 1. Since the car is parked for about 75% of the time it really isn’t much of a effort. Long trips I do hit Super Chargers on the road. We have a membership in a residential parking lot and are getting ready to install smart 120 outlets (Plugzio). It will allow us to set rates, control who uses the outlets and automatically charge for electric usage without a major electrical upgrade to our service. This will also enable us to double the number of charging spaces verses installing level 2 chargers. I really enjoy and find your videos very useful. Thanks

Gotta have level 2 if you wanna drive these things. They need to figure out a way for townhome and apartment dwellers to have this option affordably.

240v 14-30 extension cord to charge from dryer outlet. Double check the outlet as it may be a 3 prong outlet.

Hey Brandon. Looking at getting a Ford E Transit for work. Live on 3rd floor of a condo. HOA said it’s fine to run a cord to the parking lot, however, I can’t wait 4 days for a charge. I know in-town super chargers are an option, but I’d prefer full charging ability within 16 hours (between work shifts) at home for convenience and time savings as I’ll probably charge every night or every other night. I’ve got a covered deck facing our parking, so, I’m contemplating running a 240v plug to our deck, however, I’d need a cord compatible with a Ford E Transit that’s about 60-70’ long. Alternatively, maybe I could use a heavy duty generator extension cord and then a shorter cord plugged into that to make the final connection to the van, but I’m guessing I’d need to weather-proof that connection somehow. Any ideas on any of that? Thanks so much.

I know this sounds like something really unconventional, but in Australia we have IP66 rated connectors with 3, 4, and 5 Pins normally used for 3 Phase connections. I dunno the exact IEC standard but they are an IEC standard plug. They have screw connectors on them that will both lock the cord to the plug and keep the water out. I plan on using one for my apartment as I plan on doing the same.

Hey Brandon, What are your thoughts on that tweet about a big release by next Friday? Any thoughts? Thx

It sounds like it means they're opening up the Beta back to more high safety scores, with a wider release coming out later this year. Still a good step forward!

Hey Brandon, It's good to see you back with a new video always good stuff. I have the 40 amp plug on my place it works great lucky there. I feel the pain for the people that may not have that option. Still waiting on full beta fsd release but I guess a lot of people are in the same boat. There is a lot of misinformation out there on this both ways. Not sure if you would have any updates content on that to do a video or just an answer. I keep it at a 100 score most of the time with a few 99 scores mixed in about 4,000 miles 3 months plus. It would be nice if they had a list or something or hear the true facts on that other then hearing people just make comments. It's on hold it seems to be a very touchy subject. I love the my Y Pro I would love to get into the tester group though. One of that main reasons I picked the Tesla and paid the extra 10k was for that feature. It seems if you let people in and monitor there behavior if they're doing dumb things and of course remove them. Is it out of their hands or they don't have enough people staffed to monitor who knows? Will this year really be the year? Anyway glad your back posting videos!

Hey Remington, thank you again for your message checking in on me on the other video. I’ve heard rumors that the beta program is closed for now, and that they’ll be expanding again in the future after some more updates. I don’t know for sure, but I do know there have been a few negative videos inspiring some extra caution from Tesla. Keep me posted if you get in, last I was aware they had accepted a few waves of 98 scores.

@@BrandonDriver Thanks for responding! So should I try to keep a hight score or let it drop some to a 98? Lol I will definitely let you know if I get in that would be one happy day for sure!
