I was in the audience at the Everything Electric Show, I totally agreed with your thoughts, but unfortunately the discussions seemed to have been more in getting rid of cars and moving to bikes. I live 8+ miles from my closest Town and have no public transport. Also being in the north (compared to London) we obviously don't have any where near the public transport options. I want the self driving cars, my wife has stopped driving as no longer feels comfortable. All those with medical issues would certainly see the benefit. On another note the younger generation don't want to own a car, my 23 year old son doesn't have one as he works in the same village we live in. He would love an autonomous car to collect him. He has grown up amongst the Uber drivers and this is the next step and will be far cheaper as no physical person to pay. Imagine being able to go far a beer or three with friends and then you are taken home in a fully self driving car, at a quarter of the cost. It would change how I do things for certain. Taxis cost £20 one way for me so barely use them.
@LJ-jq8og13 күн бұрын
Brian💪❤ is so correct. As I age I can afford and love owning amazing cars. But the hassle factor alone begins to take over. People have no idea how quickly they surrender car ownership when they can request a cyber cab via a car or a cyber truck or a model X at any time they need it. they will recognize that paying car insurance and worrying about vandalism and theft is not worth the headache. It’s a tremendous opportunity to save money and have a stressless life. For me, the biggest thing will be the door-to-door convenience of not having to look for parking and then having to walk from wherever the hell I found an expensive parking place. That alone will make the cyber cab a guaranteed win-win. The world has no effing idea. It’s about to happen.🎉

I think you missed the point. Yes, we the current generations who have a history of exposure to cars will always love the older, beautiful cars. But as things become more hideously expensive, maintaining cars is no trivial expense. So while you make a good point it is impractical and unrealistic as to the good points that Brian is making.Indeed future generations will not even understand what car ownership was because most of them will make the rational decision to save their money for the retirement as opposed to pay all the more and more grotesque expenses of ownership. The Cybercab seems more of an urban mobility solution than a complete panacea. A car is an extension of our home in many ways. People keep personal stuff in them and commute distances. Parking isn’t necessarily an issue in non urban environments. Scheduling a vehicle to collect you in a timely manner to take you to a destination becomes more difficult to manage, the greater the journey with variables such as traffic, weather, road works etc however, clever the algorithm might be at predicting these things. There’s also the question of the human psyche and our desire for ownership, freedom, control etc. These might be a solution in cities but I don’t see them universally replacing car ownership as a model in democratic societies.
@tribalypredisposed13 күн бұрын
If you have a greater journey, commuting distances, robo taxis let you choose to spend that time sleeping or watching a movie or playing video games or doing useful work on your laptop instead of spending your time driving. Robo taxis also make traffic jams less frequent as they behave predictably and are less likely to crash. Tesla robo taxis will be everywhere, people in your neighborhood will own one, and since you are out in the suburbs your robo taxis will be on time every time. No scrapping ice or shoveling the driveway, you suddenly have garage space for whatever hobby you want, to take up, no cleaning the car, taking it for an oil change, no filling up the tank, no car payments, no problems if you want to get a little bit tipsy, no need to pay exorbitant parking when you go to the football game or stadium concert. This will happen organically for a lot of people; they will take a robo taxi to the football game and get dropped off right at the stadium, and really enjoy themselves on the ride there singing caraoki or whatever, and gradually they will use robo taxis more often until they realize they barely use their car anymore and let’s have room in the garage for woodworking or painting or a rock band rehearsal.

Hi Will and Brian. Time will change people's attitudes and even their abilities to "protest" or just want their 15 seconds of fame. What I mean is that when the Cybercab and car ownership model changes and people start to realise that the new solution is better in most ways if not all ways, then they will get onboard. I am sure of this. Currently I am one that wants to own and drive my car. But as clear as day I can see that this will change. Financially and also from a safety perspective. And also it will be multiple things that change. We will progressively live in a more walkable home environment, but we will also have access to better transport options being traditional public transport or a transport on demand model like cybercabs. So much to talk about on this one. Maybe I need to join in on one of your live streams but living in Australia it makes it hard. But that's also another issue. What works in UK / Europe doesn't necessarily work in USA, and then also in Australia. It's a hard problem, but the best minds are working on all the hardest issues. What an awesome time to be alive. Thank you both for your individual and joint efforts to communicate with the world. Sorry for the rant. But that's what I do. :-) Have a great day. Cheers.

Knee-jerk reaction is a small water cannon / hacky-sack to the groin, but realistically the only option is to quickly dispatch a different cab to collect the rider, and call the police remotely to intervene with the car that is being obstructed / vandalised / immobilised. Cameras will catch out witless vandals who aren't aware of Tesla's security, but as @F15HHOOKS says above, once the novelty has worn off and robotaxis are commonplace, the amount of consistent vandalism / interference should fall, although it will never be completely wiped out.

Also, let’s assume for 1 second that suddenly EVERYONE uses Tesla robo taxi, according to simple economics of supply and demand, robo taxi use price will go up as demand increases. It’s simple economics. I find it extremely hard to believe that using robo taxi every single day at the same average daily miles people drive is going to cost less than owning a car. Maybe to a few select people it might, but not the masses. What is more realistic is owning a robo taxi (hence owning a car) as a secondary vehicle - that makes sense But no way using robo taxi service is cheap enough to not needing or wanting to own your own car is unrealistic IMO. That would be true if people own cars just for driving from A/B - when clearly owning a car is just as much as an emotional experience as owning a house. It’s a status symbol. Because you will use your own self driving car when it’s super convenient such as dropping kids off to school, drop off to the mall, the airport, concert or theme park. Areas where parking is a pain. That makes sense

I don’t know why people still listen to Elon. He’s a salesman, and what he sells is Tesla stocks. He has a long history of drastically lying about the state of self-driving for nearly a decade, when he said that by the end of 2017, Teslas could be driving completely autonomously from LA to Times Square with no need for a single touch from the driver, including charging. Tesla has done some great work in the EV space, but it hasn’t been the pseudo-autonomous driving or the extreme minimalism (cost cutting) that has really made their mark on the EV industry - it’s been the hard work of building out the supercharger infrastructure and making their cars useable/practical that is really making them attractive to a growing audience.

100%. These people are in a cult. I bought FSD in 2020 when he promised you can send your car out to rpbotaxi, and it would also appreciate in value cause the FSD was so good. Felon Musk is a liar and conman.

The newest FSD is fantastic. It is nearly perfected. Try to keep up with the times boys.

@@SeanP7195 you're clearly lying. Its nowhere near actual FSD

Believe me, it's not for the money! What's your disagreement?

Yup. These Tesla atock pumpers should be charged by the SEC. This FSD crap is fraud. Low resolution cameras woth no redundancy, and no other sensors will NEVER work ornget regulatory approval, and Tesla KNOWS this.

First of all, betas will never understand that car ownership is linked to mastering a craft and tied to personal freedom. From an engineering and judicial standpoint, the road network is not equally developed in all countries.Interactions with human respons and thinking with fully autonomous vehicles in traffic is an enormous risk and will cause a litigation nightmare.

First, there will be WAY more Tesla robo taxis than there are Waymos, so block one and the passenger just gets out and has another one very soon. Second, basically ANY Tesla can be a robo taxi so you have to have a heck of a lot of people to block them all. Third, robo taxis are actually the ONLY way these people can get what they claim they want, walkable cities with great mass transit. The only way a sprawling city becomes densely built and walkable is to eliminate a lot of the need for parking spaces that in many cities take over half of the space of the city. Then we can infill with tall apartment buildings, if we can get past these same idiots then doing the NIMBY thing about tall buildings destroying the “character” of their neighborhood.
