I was in the same boat as you. I think the FSD should go with the person, not the car. FSD ads no value to the used car price on sites like Carvana, Vroom etc.

Assuming Tesla wants to get from 20% (currently) to over 80% adoption this year and, then, into licensing , FSD needs to : a) be priced as-is at $49/month (quickest, simplest solution) OR b) own liability when in use (riskiest solution) OR c) have more capability (slowest, hardest solution) Drop off & self-park, unpark & pick up, use slanted parking lines, park front first; Use reverse gear; Utilize driveways; Recognize and deal with emergency vehicle, school bus, funeral procession, traffic accident, detour sign, road closed sign, lane closed sign, impassable road, pothole, road debris, hand signals.

I bought in September 2023 MYP without enhanced auto pilot or FSD. No way was I paying $6k for EAP or $12k FSD!! I was given 3 month free trial of FSD. I used it everyday! Yes it had a few mistakes but overall it was awesome. I was shocked at the auto lane changes as it aggressively cut people off though. Beginning January 2024 I went back to basic auto pilot. I did miss FSD but still wouldn’t pay even $8k or $99/m for it unless I take a road trip.

I was sad when I saw FSD going to $99 only while I paid $10K for it back in 2020 in Canada. However, my daughter cheered me up by telling me I have been lucky during these 4 years to be able to witness the progress Tesla was making one update after the other. Moreover, she told me that FSD was mine (my Precious) as long as I keep my Model 3 (my other Precious), even if it stays untransferable. Finally, she told me to imagine I was paying the subscription, would I be tempted to stop it whenever there are high family expenses to make? And how would I feel about going back to basic autopilot from time to time? She is right, it's better to have purchased FSD in the long run.
@Resist48 ай бұрын
FSD was never worth it at $3,000. I paid $2,000 for it back in 2019 and even today I wouldn't pay more for than that. The subscription model works best for everyone. Use it when you need it and unsubscribe when you don't. Elon said FSD would appreciate the car value, this turned out not to be the case. It could be when FSD is feature complete and approved by regulators but that won't happen for another decade.

We do not drive our Model Y everyday due to the environment of our workplace, we just drive older work cars. At $199 a month for the subscription it really does not seem like a good value. Now with the price being $99 a month in just might work out in the months we travel over the year. We have 2 road trips over the next 2 months so we shall see how it works out.

$99 per month are still not cheap. It only seems cheap compared to he ridiculous $199 per month. It always surprises me how much Americans are willing to spend on subscriptions. Especially when it comes to streaming services and cable channels. Some even have a subscription for their sleep tracking ring and if that subscription ends, it does not have functionality any more. BMW even offered a subscription for he seat heating. All cars came with a seat heating, but without a subscription the seat stayed cold. That really makes you think what owning a car means. Isn't is YOUR seat heating and therefore it should work without an additional subscriptions? After a shitstorm BMW ended that practice. Now seat heatings are priced into the purchase price. FSD should be a free feature included in all Teslas to encourage customers to buy a Tesla instead of another brand. If Tesla needs to cover the cost of an expensive data center, $20 per month should do the job. For that price the adoption would be much higher.

I've been driving a 21 Model 3 LR for nearly 3 years and have come to enjoy Autopilot. It has had very little improvement since the car was new. I have been trying FSD (Supervised) V12.3.x now for 17 days on the free-trial. It's impressive, but it's not really useful. > It slows down in fog or rain (imagine snow??) > It stops way too far from stope lines before creeping and turning and seems very hesitant. > Fails to signal when making lane changes or merging > Fails to merge and just ends up on the shoulder > Tries to hit potholes > Drives too slow or too fast compared to how I would drive. All that said, it's very impressive what it can do. I can only imagine if it was worse than this before, how annoying it would have been to pay thousands for this. I feel it will eventually get far better and am so glad, as a Canadian, to finally be able to subscribe monthly to FSD so I can try it every few months to see how much better it has become.

After 2 weeks of the trial I asked my wife if she would use it. She said she would so $99 a month is reasonable, especially in Canadian dollars. There is a good chance this software is going to prevent her having an accident even if it is a while before it drives itself 100%

I’m pretty sure they got all the suckers to pay the 12,000 that were going to pay it already so now they’re just opening it up to get more money for people. They didn’t want to spend that crazy amount of money upfront on a feature.

I think they should make this $10-15 a month. Get every single Tesla using it. The data is worth more to them than a premium subscription price. Make it high customer, smaller profit deal. in the end the system will only benefit from all the participant data. If it was 10 a month or somehow bundled into a premium connectivity package EVERYONE would use it. I think over time they will only drop the price to drive user adoption as the system becomes more bulletproof. And it makes headlines every time they lower the price 10 bucks. gonna milk it for all the ads they can.

I had a 2018 Model 3 I bought new Jan 2019 and with it I bought FSD, it was 5K extra. When the Model Y came out in 2020, I traded in my 3 for the Y. Little did I know, Tesla would not transfer my FSD to the Y. Skip forward a couple months later, Tesla offered limited deal, EAP for 4K, so I bought that for my Y and it was immediately available. There was no required EAP download. It's just enabling/disabling a software switch on what flavor you buy, EAP/FSD. Pretty sure Tesla disabled FSD on my 3 after I traded it in so the next guy could buy it all over again. I'll be damn if I'll buy another Tesla if they will NOT transfer my EAP license to a new Tesla. It's like buying a Microsoft Office license. If you buy a new computer, MS doesn't make you buy the license all over again, you simply transfer the license to your new PC.

@Resist48 ай бұрын
I got in on that "fire sale" FSD price as well, when I had my Model 3 LR. I personally thing the huge FSD price to own it is out of touch with reality, no matter what Elon says. Luckily I was able to transfer FSD to a new 2023 Model Y Performance car. While I don't like subscriptions I feel FSD should only be via a subscription because, the free hardware upgrades won't happen anymore as Tesla keeps changing their designs not to work with older vehicles. Luckily, I was able to get one free hardware upgrade when I had my Model 3, but I knew I'd have to buy a new Tesla to get the latest hardware advancements. I do hope Tesla keeps the $99 a month FSD model and it's not a temporary thing because that price point works for most consumers and Tesla will make more money from it in the long run. And yes, FSD is purchase out right, should be transferable (with a small fee). Unless, your car is totaled through no fault of yours then it should be free.
