@catbert7
@catbert7 2 күн бұрын
It was actually doing this on 12.3.6 and that was as annoying as the not getting out of the left lane, because it would pass (after I hit the accelerator, otherwise it often refuses to) and then go right back into the right lane, even when it was going to have to pass again immediately. So now we're zigzagging between lanes. What it actually needs to do is use the left lane when it needs to pass and get to the right when faster traffic is approaching behind. Otherwise, just chill.

The point of those suggested speed limits to reduce people joining the queue ahead (that you can't see yet). If cars are leaving the jam faster than they're joining then the jam will go away. In countries where drivers pay attention to them, roads flow much better (eg the M25 in the UK has improved hugely)

Obviously it's not definitive, but i always assumed they had a shared planner and unique low-level controllers. This combiend with the jerky steering through turns that earlier v12 releases occasionally had makes it feel more like one model that's learnt to account for imperfect control.

The speed signs were to slow you down before you hit stationary traffic. If takes longer if cars come to a stop and have to set off again,than if they traffic is slowed so traffic never comes to a stop. Also if the traffic stops you usually gat a crash. In the uk they put speed cameras on these areas and call then variable speed limits. If you don’t put up cameras people just ignore them.

So the rules here: Police > Lighting systems > construction signage > Analog sings > general traffic rules Therefore, would I have driven there, I would have changed my speed limit to 60, then 50, then 40 and then waited for another lighting sign lifting the restriction and probably being honked at 😅

5:50 The reason it's capped at 38 MPH is because the speed limit is detected as 25 MPH, and auto max actually has a hidden limit of 50% over the speed limit (25 * 1.5 = 38). This may be due to the NHTSA recall a while back that enforced a speed offset limit of no more than +50%.

Thanks for the update. Unfotunately, the "bug" from version 11.4 appears to have carried on to FSD 12.5.5. That is: it mis--reads MINIMUM SPEED as the speed limit. Not always an issue, sometimes it continues with "keeping up with traffic" and other times it aggresively slows to reduce to 40mph. I have noted this on highways that frequently have any type of Minimum and "recommended speed signs. Thanks for flagging.

11:51 They clearly increased the refresh rate of the vehicle models on the screen in this update. They may be using an interpolation technique there, which is nice and what I've been hoping for for a while. If you pay attention though, you'll notice that the road markings update at the same lower rate as previous versions. So this is a change I'd expect to come to all of Tesla's cars when they get 12.5.5+, not just Cybertruck. It's all the same MCU3 hardware anyway.

I just returned from a 5000 mile road trip and FSD 12.3 was horrible. Sometimes totally missing speed limit signs, then other times reading route signs as speed limit signs, and there were several times where the were a max (70 mph) and a minimum speed (40mph) were posted on one sign. You are going 70 and all of a sudden 40. There were random lane changes and at other times it wouldn’t change lanes even when manually turning on the lane change. There were still some phantom breaking going on too. Finally the nagging was out of control. It was almost unusable.

Second would be that the vehicle doesn't get back over after passing (regularly). And when it does, it practically scrapes the front bumper of the vehicle it just passed. Then worse, with that auto-speed thing, I've had it turn that off right after passing a vehicle, as I mentioned scraping the bumper, and brake check them - especially a trucker. Not optimal at all.

Really like your videos :-). Here’s the thing, I have a 2023 model Y with I believe hardware 4, taking a lot of road trips and so a lot of this is of interest. I too live down the end of a very long dirt road and I have to use the manual limit on the manual speed control to keep the car from moving faster than 15 or 20 miles an hour on that dirt road. I would love to have an individual profile where the car just knows that on my dirt road not to go faster than 20. So this automatic speed control manual speed control is very frustrating and I wrestling with the same issues that you’re wrestling with,. I hope Teslaallows us to have some sort of individual profile where we can set our own speed limits based on local conditions.

You can manually accelerate and then while holding the accelerator re-engage the FSD and it'll set that higher speed, but yes, it may just slow down anyway because it can't see around trees and over hills.

@@DuneGames If you're using auto speed, that definitely did not fix it; it just starts slowing down the second you let FSD take over like in this video. When it (incorrectly) thinks the speed limit is 25, going 55-60 is not acceptable. This would be perfectly reasonable if FSD wasn't wrong. Which it is, on seemingly a majority of country roads across the whole country. It's embarrassing at this point it can't identify country vs. city roads based on surroundings to set a safe "I don't know the speed limit" speed. More annoying still is FSD is terrible at picking up speed limit signs--on one road it thought it was 25, but was a 50 I drove past 3 speed limit signs saying plain as day it was 50 MPH and it still never updated. Ended up manually forcing it for like 3 miles (with it occasionally beeping angrily) before it turned onto a road it did know the speed limit for. Other points I just gave up and disabled it entirely to drive myself with adaptive cruise until I saw the speed limit fix itself.

I hope Tesla doesn't think going slow is safe; quite the opposite. Because most of us are now forced to have our foot on the accelerator just to go the speed limit, that is an override that removes the safety feature of the vehicle being able to brake when it needs to. Not a good idea to lull people into a false sense of security with FSD and then make them rest their foot on the accelerator as an override! I certainly hope "speed profiles" (whatever they are) will fix this.

10:58 Those profiles only applied to V11. They don't change anything in V12. That's likely why they were removed in this update, because now V11 isn't used anywhere. V12 is an end-to-end neural net and therefore can't be commanded not to change lanes or exactly when to change lanes, so those profiles are irrelevant.

with the new versions and the great performance on the cybertruck I am much more confident in the FSD abilities. seems like it "only" needs to get better and it seems like this is possible.

Thats why i dread FSD coming from the US to Europe. We are very strict here on driving as far to the right as you can at all times, which also includes not driving on the middle lane (on a 3-lane highway) but in the outter most right lane. If FSD is being taught with data from US-drivers, it will be of no use in Europe.

I'd recommend doing some sort of stabilization magic for the editing magic of the screen. Watching it bounce around is kind of jarring

Interesting with the auto speed issues. It’s not perfect on my end but not nearly what you contend with. Maybe it’s something about it being more of a rural road atleast some of the time ? Maybe they need more operators in your area for training because every road doesn’t look like San Fran or Cali haha

Definitely had a weird turn today, got close to the curb and kind of freaked out and jerked the steering wheel un naturally to correct it, so far one thing I have noticed. Also last night when it turned there was a car that showed up to the stop sign and it felt like it was pretty close to almost hitting they car at the light

There needs to be a percent overage for auto-speed. It tries to do 35-40mph in a 25mph residential zone. Argh, no! Police will bust me in no time with that behavior.

Hi Chris, are you experiencing any issues with FSD phantom braking and trying your stop for Green Lights. I can deal with FSD driving under the speed limit, I can deal with FSD waiting till the last 0.1 mile to stage for a turn, as long as it doesn’t miss the turn, but I cannot accept FSD slamming the brakes and trying your stop for a Green Light. Am I the only one experiencing this? Haven’t noticed mention of this by you, Whole Mars Blog or any other KZbinrs. Maybe I missed you all calling attention to this.

I don't agree with you. I think the user should only be allowed to set the max cap. The neural network should then decide what speed it should go, never surpassing the max cap you just set. This is how it should work.

Hi, I too have been having speed issues with my inferior version of FSD (12.5.4). But I think I know why! I have a model 3, 2024 with FSD and I use it in Québec, Canada. Recently I installed a small screen in line with my steering wheel that displays speed and posted speed limits. Well since I discovered that sometimes that little screen and larger center screen differ by quite a lot in my area, one can displays 30km while the other 50km. However, the 30km used to be valid years ago, but now the 50km is the present speed limit. When FSD screws up the speed is when the little screen displays a different speed limit which was correct years ago. This little screen reads posted speed sign from a different registry I assume, but that data seems old and no longer valid when they disagree. FSD speed info seems to be guided by an older data bank, (from living in this area for 12 years it seems the data is from 5 to 10 years ago and more). The larger screen always displays proper up to date GPS/Map info but this information in my neck of the woods differs a lot and often compared to the small screen (growing area and lots of changes in the recent years from rural to urban). FSD also does not always follow the GPS displayed path the large main screen displays and uses different route it prefers (love to turn right the safest path) but this increases distance but gets you there anyways. After going through a 30 Km school zone by my house FSD remains at 30 km for a kilometer after passing the sign posting the speed change to 50 km, my small display also remains at 30 km, so again I assume FSD is just doing what it is supposed to, but I know for a fact that that speed data was valid years ago, FSD changes speed to 50 km exactly at the next posted 50km sign along that road just like my little screen changes to 50km also. I have another zone locally where FSD goes from the posted 50km to 70 km my small screen displaying the 70km zone as well. The center screen remains at the posted and correct speed of 50km. I tried letting FSD take over speed control, but it always goes too fast like 20 kms an hour too fast, around here 14kms over would be tolerated but anything else ticket. The old map data used to be 70km and now most roads around me are set to 40 or 50 km due to urban growth. I use the posted speed plus 5%. Hopefully Tesla knows about this and can corrects this in later versions of FSD. When I first got the car, it kept on going though one stop sign which is brand new, after telling them over 3 or 4 days that the car was running a stop sign, well they must have corrected the map and now it always does that stop sign. I know they can correct the map for safety reasons. I should let them know about the different speed limits as well. 😬

What I hate on 12.5.4 is, even turning off auto speed, and rolling up the max 5 mph over the car won't honor the speed and stays at the posted limit.

2:17 the cars in the visualization are animated so much smoother than on my HW4 Model 3 Highland without FSD. On mine it looks like the cars are refreshed with 15fps but on your Cybertruck it looks more like >= 30fps. Is it just the FSD-Stack?

Just got 12.5.4 and it is a bit better on the highway than 12.3.6 was. It hasn't drifted out of the lane yet and, most importantly, it mercifully maintains whatever speed I accelerate to (for the most part; it still slows a bit on curves and fails to resume speed after). But it still fails to reduce speed when the speed limit goes down by 10, even though it shows the speed limit change (as seen at 9:15). Still fails to change lanes, until it's forced over, when the lane ends, due to construction. Still fails to pass slow traffic, until I press the accelerator. And still tailgates when the lead traffic slows down.
