I foresee, in the near future, that most people will use a very cheap robo-car hailing service when you need it (because parking and charging will become the major cost for most car owners). "Ownership" will become lease only, ie the low priced Tesla being a lease only product for a set price of $400 per month, with FSD and Tesla insurance included (effectively a leased robotaxi - constant, predicatble and never ending income for Tesla). Recycling of cars by the manufacturer will allow for low/mid price users who are currently forced into the currently dangerous (damaged/unreliable/dirty) used sector. The next question is when to renew/refresh your lease. This will cost $5k to $10k dependent upon your vehicle's condition/age/mileage. Paint/body/interior will need refresh before they can re-rent/re-sell into the lower price segment. And you will have the option to do a straight renew to the latest version or upgrade, moving up through their vehicle range for a higher lease priced product or a lease a "pre-owned" (love that phrase!!!) higher value vehicle. Car trading/selling will become more about re-cycling and renewing cars by the manufacturer - that is the new business for current car 'stealerships'. Because of increased usage of FSD, fewer cars will get into accidents. Robotaxi-ing your own vehicle? Elon seems to think cars are cars, and people will be happy to let their cars go out and be used by others. He is a fool. View a few car auction videos to see what a pig sty some people tolerate for the inside of their cars. I would not want other people in my car when I was not in it. Other people generally behave disgustingly! :) So that will NEVER happen.
