23:05 is something I've tried to explain to people. FSD has made me considerably safer because I never want to get locked out of a drive so I'm more attentive than I would be without it. I definitely notice how locked in to their phones everyone else seems to be.
@johnchristopher769716 сағат бұрын
Totally agree. Every day that I drive Tesla FSD I see at least a handful of people drifting over into my lane while they are on their phones, and almost creating fender benders or worse. It's one of the reasons we have nearly 45k deaths on US roads each and every year. One day Tesla FSD will help alleviate this when it gets to Unsupervised. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I think it is the best highways video I have seen so far. It seems like a video game. NPC vehicles moving slowly around, and you are just moving effortlessly between them. This is very close to a really professional driver level. Sometimes a bit worse, but many times better, as it does not need to waste time to turn the head to see all cars around. Probably much safer already as well. Pleasure to watch.

Great commentary JC. I cannot remember the detail, but do you remember that you had a couple of specific problems with the last version that you wanted to check out on V13? Perhaps a subject for your next drive. Also, need to change the rules of the game if undercutting at speed on the highway is OK; it seems very dangerous to us who are certainly not allowed to do that.
@johnchristopher769714 сағат бұрын
Thanks! And yes definitely want to test out edge cases, although they are all map data issues with google maps that generally don’t get updated in FSD, it’s a different stack. I’m hoping they do another navigation update soon! As for highways, I always tell people I am on hurry mode, so that I can show the full capabilities. You do not have to do this, you can put on chill mode and literally never change lanes, or normal mode and drive regular. I’m a tester. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@RubenKelevra8 сағат бұрын
43:23 nope, this functionality what to do at the end of a drive is what's upcoming in one of the next releases. Currently, that's not selected by the user, but just emerging from the training. So FSD uses the thing which it calculated works best at the current destination. So sometimes it will park backwards, sometimes forward, sometimes it will go to the side of the road, sometimes it will just awkwardly stop in the middle of the road.

Disengagement is the thing of past. Interventions is the thing to look for.
@johnchristopher769714 сағат бұрын
Yes, the key things to look for going forward are "critical interventions" and then just ride comfort. The "non critical interventions" don't concern me since once they launch their Cybercab service, it will highly likely have some level of teleoperational assistance for stuff like that, just like Waymo does right now with its fleet. Maybe they have deliberately set the FSD to randomly choose between park in a parking spot or pull over to the side at the destination to get more data for the upcoming parking functionality?
@johnchristopher769714 сағат бұрын
That could totally be true. I think it is just random at this point, as I have noticed it is always good and proper, but just different. Sometimes it parks in a parking spot, sometimes goes to the front like a "robotaxi/Uber" dropoff, sometimes to the side of a house like everyone would do if they're visiting someone, etc. But you could be correct, they are just collecting more data before they update in another release. Haha, my neighbors love their ICE cars, but I am working on them! Hopefully get at least one other Tesla in my neighborhood at some point. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@RubenKelevra8 сағат бұрын
36:48 well, memory storage is maybe the wrong term here. But you can think of the car as having a pattern of behavior, but while you have it engaged all inputs can influence the behavior, so in theory there's a large amount of data which can be stored, as it's just signals of patterns. But in the learning process, you usually also make sure you disincentivise wrong signals being stored too long. So say it drives over a highway for 4 hours, the signals for "drive fast and overtake everything" may become really strong in the neuronal network. To avoid this you train with very variating routes, where it drives over a highway and then turns off to a neighborhood and in this scenario all "drive fast and overtake everything" behavior gets punished. This makes sure the neuronal network only keeps the very current data necessary for its performance in memory, and discards everything which can lead to wrong behavior. Since you've talked about "looking ahead", well, you can see what the car can see basically. It has some form of map view and can look around, but won't have specific recognitions of specific areas (at least if trained correctly) and instead will generalize it. Think less about how you navigate in your own neighborhood in a car and more how you maybe would navigate in a supermarket which you've never been to. You look at signs and try to find patterns which are recognizable, say all cans are offered next to each other and something like this. That's what the car is doing, just for driving. So if there's a general pattern how something might look on the map or the signs or the type of road you're on, where it's reasonable to assume something, it may do that. If not, it can't.

I always find it ridiculous how many oversized cars are parked in neighbourhoods. They park on the street, and they park on the Drive way, but barely anyone uses their garage for what it is for. It looks so awful; which is a shame, because the houses in your neighbourhood are particularly Beautiful.
@johnchristopher769716 сағат бұрын
Yes, I agree with you. I think it is a cultural thing in the US, or at least here in Houston, Texas, where folks use their garages more for work areas, man caves, storage, etc., and all of the cars are parked all over the streets. One day when we have a cybercab/robotaxi world, this would be one of the huge potential positives, not having so many parked vehicles all over our streets doing absolutely nothing other than just sitting there. I am actually going to try that on one of my next destinations and see how that works, I had a number of other folks say the same thing. Tesla's release notes for v13.2.1 states that the navigation will have the ability to let us select in upcoming releases. You can select between "robotaxi dropoff" (like what it did for me at Luby's), parking in a parking spot (like it did for me at HEB yesterday), park in a garage (like it tried to do for me yesterday :-) lol), park along side of the road near a house (like it did for me today coming home from Luby's), or park in an exact designated pin drop.
