Keep hearing this “don’t supercharge often” myth on these videos. I’m not sure where they get their information but my 2018 Model 3 is at 92% Health, exclusively supercharged, 110,000 miles.

I met an obsessive Tesla driver who religiously wouldn't charge above 75% and never let it below 40%. That is actually worse than charging form 106 to 100% every day. The battery never learns it has more capacity

Been watching your videos for a while. Great content and creative without recycling old ideas. Thank you for that! I have a question on this one. When you recalibrate, are you recalibrating the ability to compute an estimation of the miles or is the battery itself optimizing to maximize miles (battery health)? I get the impression the battery itself is not degrading or improving in this process and it is just the ability to measure distance remaining that is being optimized...
@EverydayChris2 жыл бұрын
Computing! There a bms system that shows you the range but can get funky if it doesn’t know various charge levels which is why we calibrate however actual miles on the pack itself stay the same

For vacation parking (or long un-used parking), can you do a video on using solar battery charger/maintenance for Tesla12V battery? Will 10w panel be enough to keep up with Sentry Mode on? Does Tesla circuit allow external 12V charging?

Hmm solar battery??? I don’t think it allows external charging

Im not sure if you got the latest software update between 2022.20.7 or 2022.20.8 but you can enable the brakes to be used when you are 100% charged to get some regen.

Try changing to 100% at an electrify charger. Tesla super charger tops at 70kw at 100%. Electrify will charge to 75kw at 100% maybe that’s where your missing miles have gone. You will need a CCS1 charger adapter for comparable speeds as a V3 charger

@ZIlberbot2 жыл бұрын
general rules for batteries (no matter how good or bad they are) - need to try not drain battery to very low level - not often use supercharge (only if its needed for long trips) as high current will shorten their life
@alexsmith6271 Жыл бұрын
Fake info. You can go below 5% on tesla easy. You need to read some studies to understand
@ZIlberbot Жыл бұрын
@@alexsmith6271 fake is how to relate that info. If taken into account that Tesla is designed to show 5% or 0% when its batteries are not fully empty , then that infor seems not really fake 😁 In general, all well designed Litium batteries stop offer energy when they still have some energy inside to avoid full discharge and to keep their long life

OMG this video came out at such a good time! I was planning to recalibrate my battery this weekend. I have a 21 m3 SR+ and after a year and 11k miles, the car is showing I have a max range of 224mi when the EPA rating is 260. So really hoping that this will help fix the BSI calculation. Just one thing that I am not 100% sure on...after charging it back up to 100%, do you need to run it down low single digit % again?

I don't own a Tesla, but before Tesla was around, I'd spent about ten years as a hobbyist flying large rc models (planes, helis) with lithium batteries when the industry was just starting, i.e. experimental. Point being, I gained a LOT of experience with lithium batts in terms of best practice, cell balancing, resistance, state of charge/discharge, problems, etc. You have a replacement reconditioned pack made up of hundreds of cells, therefore, you have no idea the lifecycle / state of these cells, whether they are aged, in a state of balance, their internal resistance, cell damage, etc. That sound / knock you heard during charging, could that be thermal expansion (heat)? I've seen and experienced fires in the hobby and a battery getting hot is an issue. I've seen some youtubes where Tesla via software update caps the charge voltage on older batteries. I assume what's happening is they cap the total pack voltage below 4.2v/cell (full) because reaching 4.2v at the pack level would require overcharging some cells (fire risk), i.e., the damaged cells, aged cells with high internal resistance, are incapable of reaching that 4.2v. There is a lot to know about Lithium cells and no substitute for understanding what is happening at the individual cell level vs the pack. I would charge that car in the driveway.

If the charge % is off that seems like more of an issue to me but can be easily validated using scan my tesla or similar. I also think the estimated Range is calculated by your driving habits and environmental factors. But I'm not a battery scientist. I'll stick to % personally.
