Here’s an idea after a year ownership of this vehicle see if you can give us a breakdown on what you payed (additionally) in electrical bill versus what you would’ve paid in gasoline.

Tom a second Tesla wall connector would be the way to go if you get a second car. They put a data cable between them and share the 60A line. If both cars come on for a charge at the same time they share the 60A if only one car charging it has the 60A all to itself. If the other car is not a Tesla you can bye an adaptor from Tesla to J1772 or a Tesla wall connector with a J1772 plug on it is also available.

I installed a 6-50 plug at home and my work, I get right at 30miles/hour charge rate on it using the mobile cord. Great videos, good luck!

NEMA 14-50 isn’t for clothes dryers. It’s for electric stoves. Dryer is 14-30, so only 30 amp.

we got a model 3 as a work car, came with a 30a 415v wall charger. 110v is a killer, so many amps required to get the watts in.

I wired a 50 amp appliance plug to my Gen 3 WC, I already had the outlet as a former Volt owner. Outputs a rock steady 40 amps/36 mph. Plus love having the outlet gives me options going forward. The tax credit is another bonus.

Tom you got a Tesla!?!?! I've watched your channel for years. Back to your yellow turbo Miata days (I owned a black turbo Miata too). Seeing you have a Tesla now is hugely gratifying considering your mechanical skill and experience with performance cars. I've owned 2018 Model 3 for a couple years now and its been an incredible car. Commissions the connector caused me headaches but it’s easy for you. I couldn’t connect even though I tried for days and the Tesla team couldn’t either so I returned it and bought a gen 2 off of eBay.

Tom will the Wall Charger quit charging when The battery is full. E.G. plug it in when you pull into the garage, unplug it the next morning.

Hi Richard, yes it quits charging automatically. You manage all of the charging details/schedule either in the car's interface or the Tesla app.

A friend of mine is a master electrician who installed one of their 3-phase chargers. The guy paid a hefty price for it, as it was a complicated install with long, underground runs. Apparently it can do a full charge in something like an hour o.o

I was actually about to buy a Bolt, dealer told me it was sold, so I picked up a Lexus, two days later they called me and said the deal fell through, at that point I had already bought the Lexus. The bolt was part of a two vehicle option though (Bolt for daily old iron for when I want to drive).

Hi, is there a reason you chose to enter the wiring from the bottom of the wirebox rather than the top? Seems like you top would make more sense because you had the conduit/wiring from the ceiling already, so a top entry would make sense? I'm researching installing one myself and am asking to learn. Tom, I'll admit, I was skeptical of how entertaining or educational a video about what amounts, in my eyes, to a vehicular appliance, but... well done with the electrician bit. Still a fun video, so keep it up. I'm sure Torch approves! The S, as far as autocross goes, is kinda a one-trick pony with it's silly acceleration out of corners, but wow do those tires hate changing direction... the 3 though? That's surprisingly potent. I figure in ten, twenty years, these sorts of things might interest me. The weight is simply too much for the time being.

That looks like a pretty slick set up, I have heard that in some subdivisions the over all power draw prevents people from installing the heavy duty charging stations. Can you run say an electric dryer or oven while charging the car?

That would first depend on how many amps the service line to the house is. If it's a 200amp service....perhaps?

If it's a problem for a given house you can change out your main breaker and resolve it. Basic electrician stuff. I'm sure on some older houses it can be a problem, my house with 50's wiring runs like half the house on 1 breaker ffs. On newer ones unlikely - but as I said, in either case it's an easy upgrade.

Not really, 99% of stuff in the US will always be 110v. But quick chargers like this require more wattage, so 220v is an obvious move. Just like welders & dryers.

Yes, it has IP55 - so you can have it outside but it is recommended to add some kind of roof to avoid rain

I mounted the NEMA 14-50 outlet myself for my Tesla but my install was really simple. The outlet is right below the breaker box. In Tom's situation with all the conduits and stuff I would probably have called in the pros as well.
