That’s why economists are not in favor of subsidies. The market rarely passes subsidies onto the consumer. Rather when a seller has determined what the optimum prices according to the price elasticity of demand they will simply increase the price to account for the subsidy to bring the total cost back down to the original price they had set and taking all the benefit of the subsidy away from the consumer for themselves
@bhagwanfruglee16623 жыл бұрын
These car companies are international; if one country increases tax credits, tesla still has to compete in other markets… And the cos is redistributed to the consumer, you might not get the full tax credit value, but you still get a heck of a lot of it! I really was a supporter of EV tax credits. Now they just make me angry. If they pass it as written this is what I hate. 1: credits for hybrids, (stupid) 2: credits for union built (corrupt) 3: Reduced credits for the most innovative vehicles. (I plan on buying an Aptera. When deliveries start next year it will be the most energy efficient production EV made, with 2-4 times the range for the same battery size as other EVs. Max credit allowed -$2500- You could get more credit buying a hybrid made overseas than buying the most energy efficient EV in existence made in the US. ) 4: Since Tesla has such high demand they have decide to raise the price and simply absorb the tax credits into their margins. Tax credits are Tax Dollars!! Tax dollars that are supposed to make it easier and more affordable for a tax payer to buy an EV. Our tax dollars should not be spent to beef up the already record setting margins of one of the most successful companies on the planet. I also don't believe in handing Apple or Amazon billions of tax dollars and telling them "No strings, no payback, just go add it to your profit line! The tax payers will cover it!" I have been called a communist for having this opinion. SMH

Tesla cancelled out credits in Canada too. Federal/provincial incentives amount to $8000 for EVs under $55000. Tesla's multiple price rises push the base Model 3 to $60k (LR $67k; 3Performance or Model YLR $77k). So, no Canadian credit for ANY Tesla. A Model 3 is now $15000 more expensive than it was 12 WEEKS ago. The economic result? Demand remains strong. Wow.

Tesla didn’t cancel the credit. They increased the price which moved the price out of range for the credit. It’s shitty. However, I was lucky to book one just before the increase. Hey Andy, Android user here. I definitely feel like iOS gets perks and priority over things. Just a few examples: 1. App updates - I literally have to wait WEEKS for an update that was already made available by iOS users. I just downloaded the live sentry view app update today, but that feature has been available since the end of October for iOS. 2. Texting literally does not work at all. Every time I use my voice to send a text or reply to someone's message, it does not go through on my phone. The car says the message was sent, but checking my phone afterwards, it shows the message was never sent. 3. Receiving text messages while driving messes up in the car. It will show an old message from a random person from YEARS ago. I have to dismiss that message first, and THEN I can see the new message I just received. It's very frustrating. To my knowledge this only affects Android users. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but I would say it's definitely >50% of the time.

Probably, since the high price of EVs, owners are also most likely to own expensive phones, so iPhones. Not to trash Android, but that is probably just resource allocation from Tesla. Hopefully, with more cars around the world, where iPhones are less common, they will prioritize Android.

Thanks for the update. I ordered a $54K Model Y a few months back, when the spec I wanted was not available. I received a notice this week that I have to firm up the order by early December or I will loose my place in line (and the price protection). When I asked Tesla when such a firmed up order would be delivered they had a fuzzy answer: "within a few days or weeks of matching my order to a VIN #". So I cannot tell if that would be a December or January delivery, and thus cannot tell if it is better to firm up the order now or wait till next year when a tax credit may (or may not) be available. They also could not confirm when a car from Giga Texas with 4680 batteries and the structural battery pack would be available. Love Tesla's cars, but still a bit confused about when to buy at the moment.

The tax credit for 2022 being refundable is different than the current non-refundable tax credit. That's a pretty big difference, imo. You don't have to OWE TAXES (aka tax liability) at time of filing to get the full $7.5k or more to get the credit. A refundable credit makes tax liability irrelevant. Also, getting an $80k model y is impossible at the moment. It's still well within the suv cap of the proposed bill. M3P, X, and S, sure. But you do you really need credit if you're spending that kind of money on an EV?

I’m apprehensive about the trunk or frunk opening via the Tesla app on phones. I would hesitate to choose the home screen as the location for the icon. It would be easy to accidentally open the trunk or frunk when the user is not near the car. If a person catches the mistake, no problem; simply close it immediately via the app. Of course the frunk can’t close itself. An accidental opening could be avoided by requiring a two step actuation in the app so one accidental touch would not open the trunk. A two step requirement would allow the owner to pop the trunk when he wants to allow access when he is many miles away. A combination of taps like long and short and any number of alternate inputs could work.

I wasn’t sure what I was going with my current car, I haven’t applied for a loan, no insurance, etc. I was completely caught off guard. They said they understood and pushed it back to Jan 1. I will probably say I’m ready for delivery a week or so before Jan 1 to get back in the queue sooner than the big group on Jan 1.

As a Tesla owner with an android phone it would be nice to get the updates sooner but overall it's not a problem because Sooner or later the update always arrived

The app changes regarding the solar panels and home battery is simply terrible. We had our unit for over two years and very disappointed when our apps changed. The new app makes it very difficult to see what is happening with your panels, battery, home use, and the grid. Some busy body at Tesla thought they would fool around with the app and really screwed it up. GET ME MY FORMER APP BACK, ELON.

Great info... I have a Model Y LR on order now, but eta is June 2022. Reserved it in the middle of the price hikes, but if they slash prices considerably between now and then, I may push my delivery out, or just order another one for a 2023 delivery to really make it more cost effective! I figure prices come down it'll be due to better supply chain and this delivery times will go back to normal.

Living in Kentucky, you are aware that if you charge your EV from the grid, in 2020, 69% of the electricity was generated with COAL. So, if your EV is mostly coal powered, why would you get a tax credit?

This might not be true in every case but I'm pretty sure it's still cleaner to get your "fuel" from the grid and also cheaper than say the pump.

thank you andy for this video. i believe the easier things are getting done by us, the weaker we become. so, having an android (which i have and am giving up my iphone) with a tesla vehicle should be a good thing: more challenges to the brain and more ability for us not to be too dependent on technology.

He Andy, Aside from a wifi connection to update the Model Y while it is charging over night, are there any other ways to update a Tesla? Maybe using a phone?
@bryanhauer3 жыл бұрын
Turn on Advanced updates in Settings and select to get updates as soon as they're available, but you'll still need to be on WIFI with the car to download updates. You can then select software updates anytime to see if there's one available if you don't want to wait. You can use the iOS app to initiate an update, but the car still needs to be on WIFI. Hope that helps!

In September I took it off hold as I thought the tax credit just wasn’t going to happen. My delivery date is March 2022 so as long as they pass it this month I should be good to go!

Global phone operating system market share is roughly - ios 28%, Android 71%. Seems bizarre to me that a minor phone provider gets updates first, Apple haven't really been a significant player in the mobile phone market for many years now....Samsung, Xiaomi and the like are simply light years ahead, and Android overall has almost 3/4 of the entire globe's share of phones so to get delayed updates just doesn't make mathematical sense.

To hazard a guess based on personality, that iOS users are probably more apt to purchase a Tesla than Android users. I am also surprised that Tesla has increased their prices per model so drastically as to virtually nullify any incentives or tax breaks. Even when they eliminated components and functionality, like the radar. Even a HomeLink module is a $300 upcharge. A key fob clicker is less than $10 online, and that is enough to handle that garage or gate issue. Autopilot has even increased in price despite the removal of radar, to commit to a visual recognition based system. One would think that an upgrade to 4K cameras would be in order to enhance accuracy of that feature. The cost should be relatively negligible, I recently bought four knockoff GoPros with 4K for around fifty bucks, including extra batteries… …

Tesla changed the interior door panels, and now the white interior sucks!! I chose it last month and then found out what they did, and now i wanna change it to black cuz it’s not worth $1000 to me but then my delivery’s gonna be pushed off to February!! So now im looking into used evs, but im waiting for BBB to be voted on cuz I think the used ev market will DROP if new EVs drop in price! :D

The problem here is, we don’t have a real competitor, that would drive down the price more than having the government try to pick winners & losers! So what we need is a real competitor & I don’t see anyone on the horizon that can fit the bill at this moment! So this is slightly off topic but you didn’t talk about tires & there’s not a lot of press reporting about Tesla having supply problems in getting tires for their customers cars, particularly for the Model 3! So I just had the most disturbing experience that I’ve ever had dealing with Tesla’s service! They gave me an appointment & I show up to the appointment & 2 hours into the appointment the service personnel removed all 4 tires from the rims only to find out that they did not have replacement tires in the correct size, so the service rep tells me this after 2 hours into this operation & so they had to re-balance & remount all 4 tires & their service rep tells me that they can reorder the tires only to leave me a voicemail message the next day saying they could not order the tires and that there was some type of supply issue & recommended that I try to procure the tires on my own, which I found totally unacceptable, but here we are & Tesla cannot provide tires for the cars they’ve already sold to the customers & so there’s very little in the press about this & so what is Tesla telling their customers and the answer is nothing, except we’re sorry, too bad, you’re on your own, this is piss poor customer service & I am one pissed off customer, because this should never have happen in the first place! I mean you don’t have tires, I mean we’re talking about tires, we’re not talking about to some high tech micro chip that somehow suddenly we can’t get because some idiots didn’t understand that the supply chain could be interrupted by any number of events to include Geo political issues like we’re seeing now with China and Taiwan, not to mention a global pandemic & they didn’t plan for it, I mean this is so disturbing & disappointing on so many levels that I can’t even think about how I need to handle this because to my mind this is totally unacceptable & should have been anticipated and avoided! I mean at the rate Tesla is selling cars they should have warehouses filled with tires not tires that are on back order but actual tires that people can go and purchase when they need to this is some basic fundamental stuff that no company should ever ignore! It’s unbelievable & this is coming from a Tesla fanboy who gives this company & its service personnel high marks on customer service, but this is really a low blow in my opinion to their reputation if they don’t get this solved & I mean quickly, before more people run into the same nonsense that I just ran into it!
@Resist43 жыл бұрын
That's pretty bad that Tesla didn't tell people about the missing items in their new vehicles. Supply chain issues aren't a reason not to tell your customers! What the heck Tesla?! And it's also not right that Tesla has kept raising their car prices so we would actually lose any tax credit. So basically their EV vehicles are still out of reach for most people. I was going to trade in my 2018 Model 3 for a Model Y but now I can't. And as much as I like EV's if prices can't come back down I'll go back to driving ICE vehicles, well probably a hybrid.

Tesla owners aren't eligible for rebate. Only people purchasing Tesla after 1-1-2022 are eligible (future purchasers). Consumer Reports 😆. As if they are unbiased. Look at who supports that pub. That report doesn't give a date range for when data were collected. Also, the problems were not ranked by severity or level of importance - panel gaps versus battery catching on fire.
