For me, it seemed also that the robots were remote operated. The conversations were to fluent and somehow more human answers. Including that happy birthday scene. The arm movements reminded me too as movements from CP3O. A robot would not move the arms, because there is no need to, and it wants to save energy.

Lots of cool stuff and lots of questions on how things will work out. I don't think there will be much less traffic as the same amount of people will want to go places as they do now, maybe even more. Just less cars sitting at home or in parking lots. Actually; I think people will go out more with the per mile cost less than owning a car and much more comfortable driving conditions. As far as FSD coming with the robo taxi model; it kind of will have to if there aren't controls. Seems like there might be two models. Parking lots to parks ? Maybe some or parts of some, but there will be lots of folks who take their own car to places and want to have it parked and waiting for them. Lets not forget that the parking lot land is very valuable and private owners will most likely want to develop it. So governments will have to buy the land to make parks. Parks don't generally make money, whereas buildings and businesses do generate money for cities.

I do not see the initial robots being multifaceted or multi functional. It may be able to accomplish various routines but the routines will have to be programmed by the owner. This would involve scheduling the tasks into a routine where the robot was trained in each task. I do not think a human has their life organized in such a way that a robot could adopt to the idiosyncrasies of the human. It would be more training the human to serve the needs of the robot so that it can carry out the tasks. This would work for a solitary human but throw in a family unit and the complexity would increase exponentially.

@@cimexs6952 minimizing light pollution is really interesting. If the lights can be aimed precisely where needed, that could help reduce unnecessary spillage into the environment, which is great for urban areas where light pollution is a concern. As for using an extended spectrum beyond visible light, that’s a smart idea! Using wavelengths outside the visible spectrum, like infrared, could indeed help with seeing through fog, snow, and rain. Infrared can penetrate these obstructions better than visible light, which could enhance the vehicle’s ability to navigate in challenging weather conditions.

@@gimmieboy You can look at time. If cars are on the road 10% of the time, they are parked 90% of the time. If you increase the first number by moving from a private vehicle to a taxi service, the first number goes up, so the second must go down. You can look at cost. If people replace owning a car with taking robotaxis because they are cheaper all things considered, there will be fewer cars. You can look at specific locations. If there are easier and cheaper ways to get to the sportsball stadium than a private car, you don't need the huge paved desert around them. Take a random American stadium and compare it to European stadiums with metro stations next door. They are in a city, not in a forest or a parking desert. All of these comparisons are massively simplified and debatable, but basically that's it.

90% of Uber & taxi rides are one or two people. Driving in stop-and-go traffic on I-90, I-93, and I-95 in Boston, and on I-635 across north Dallas, I observed that most cars by far only had one, some two, people, in each car. If every one of those cars had been electric cybercabs, there would have been the same number of cars, and the traffic would have been just as slow. While the air would be much more breathable, I fail to see how replacing ICE cars with one person each with cybercabs with one person each, or empty busses that can carry 45 people with empty robovans which can carry 20 will have any effect on traffic. And if you think those parking lots will become parks, you are naïve. They will become offices or apartments. Guaranteed.

Some of the skepticism regarding overall system improvement with Robovan may come from the fact that transit system efficiency is governed by the nature of people. Technology has not been the limiting factor for over 60 years. Trains and trolleys have been able to accelerated and decelerate faster than is humanly comfortable for decades. People only move so fast and only like moving so fast, which is why most metros have a loading and unloading time at or above 30 seconds.

I would hope if I’m going to buy my own personal cyber cab that I could connect a game controller to it so that I could manually drive it when needed. My biggest concern is parking it in unusual spots at home or needing to shuffle cars or maybe I want to drive the cyber cabinto the grass.

(17:30) you bring up a great point... what if someone needs to pull over for having a medical emergency (like heart attack) and needs immediate attention and/or someone to call an ambulance for them? While having a heart attack, you can't necessary grab your phone and call 911 and say you need immediate attention and at the same time cruising around town. By the time you reach your destination, your heart might stop. Maybe if there is some voice activation like "Hey Taxi", "heart attack" and the taxi would immediately pull over and dial 911?

It'll mean less parking space (which will end up as whatever the economics dictates, not likely to be parks) but how is it going to get rid of traffic? If it's cheaper to go from A to B more people will wan't to go from A to B. All at 2 people per Robotaxi. It's not a solution to mass transit. It makes car ownership optional and using them more convenient which saves time and money so great but you'll be sat in traffic more, just doing something else while you're in it. Robovans will only increase this substantially if groups are going on the exact same route, otherwise it's a luxury bus.

To me the event said nothing about the 25000 car. Something I thought Tesla said something about in their Q2 2024 call and said they would be able to launch in 2025 and it would be a hybrid of their current manufacturing methods and new future manufacturing/platform methods. Any ideas on that?

@@MyDarkMuffin I always got the impression that the 25000 car would have a robot taxi version and a regular version, based on Musk’s words. I don’t see how people are willing to settle for just a 2 seater car at that price point. I always assumed the 25000 car would also be able to fit 4-5 people. Maybe another cabin version of the robot taxi will come, but extra seats and extra doors and all the other extras will raise the price. So it’s all odd to me or telling there might not be a 25000 car based on the robot taxi platform.

I'm most curious about how DOT, NHTSA, NTSB, FHWA are going to approve Cybercab on the roads. Maybe there is some special arrangement with Texas and Cali? I have a question for people who love the “your car can work for you model” what’s stopping a company from doing it right now with normal drivers? Just give the company a spare key let them know where your vehicle is located and how long it will be available. The company won’t have to maintain a fleet of taxis and you earn income from your car win win right? Oh you wouldn’t trust the company with your cars location? You wouldn’t trust the company or the driver or random members of the public with your property? You wouldn’t want to be possibly liable for damages done with your vehicle? Yeah that is a lot of issues… how many of them are solved by just replacing the driver with AI?

Tesla needs a better short term plan. Optimus and robocab are awesome and definitely the future, but it's going to take many more years (I am a daily FSD driver). In hindsight, instead of cybertruck they should have put all those resources into developing a small affordable car to compete with BYD etc for the next 5 years until robotaxi truly takes over..

The push back on the Robovan may come from the fact that it is only a modest improvement on the trackless and tracked electric trolley invented over 100 years ago. Once there are tunnels, there is little infrastructure difference when compared to overhead lines and, without dedicated paths, there is no improvement in speed. It is probably a good business idea because cities in the US removed or otherwise neglected their mass transit systems, but in practice it is a cool bus or a heavy trackless trolley and has all the same urban planning issues the original technology had.

It's a small bus. Buses are constrained by needing drivers. With autonomy on roads you can naturally downsize to optimize travel. A 2 seater and 20 seater are just the ends of the scale.
@ianbelanger7459
@ianbelanger7459 4 сағат бұрын
@@AnonYmous-rw6un It is a small bus. While there is a driver cost problem at present, that is a new problem and a function of the current state of the economy and the cost of labor. Labor was not a controlling issues from 1950-1990. Changing to autonomous vehicles does not change the human factors that currently control the through put of the car based system (subways and the like are ignored because dedicated infrastructure is a different discussion). Human drivers actually drive fairly efficiently given that humans are non-networked. For safety and comfort, autonomous vehicles will have similar following distance rules, acceleration and deceleration requirements and the same need to slow down in congested traffic situations as people. Without networked information, an autonomous car reacts to the same information that people do. The autonomous car is probably safer, but it is not faster. Looking from another angle, autonomous buses and cars have same loading and unloading times, the same loading and unloading space requirements (though parallel parking times would provably be reduced), and the system as a whole has the same network utilization issues (though with independent autonomous vehicle there would be no central ledger like a subway).
