After you mentioned about the possibility of a person buying a single robotaxi for home use and allowing it to taxi others when you're not using it, I thought about the tire wear and how much more often you'd have to buy new tires. Then I thought about taking it to a tire dealer for a new set, and wondered how you or the garage technician would "drive" the car onto the lift for the tire change.

It would probably drive itself to the Tesla station for maintenance. When my Tesla tires are low or gets a flat, it lets me know then gives me an option to call for a tow which brings a full replacement. So likely the same thing here, the taxi would call the tow for a tire.

Very awkward given that owners of AP and then EAP bought into the hype for over a decade and still have nothing to really show for it. Tesla doesn’t even have government approval for any of this and we know how long and arduous that can be. Also, what is this really replacing? Urban taxis, Lyft and Uber?

@@omphat2799 According to Elon it's pretty close for about a decade now. And even safer that human drivers since 2018. But according to data it needs human intervention to prevent accidents once every 110 miles (and this number hasn't significantly improved for more than a year now between v11 and v12.5) while the average human driver is causing an accident about every 100.000 miles driven. That's a factor of 1000. But call that "close" if you like.

This is a 2-seater autonomous vehicle, it is not a $25k car for the masses, the refreshed M3 and MY will sell well but what will really move the needle , a semi and Cybertruck will not do it. I'm 83, and I've been driving around San Diego for a couple of weeks on the latest two FSD releases, completely hands-free; with no disengagements and two navigation errors, which it corrected without disengagement by rerouting to the destination. In other words, my experience with the current version of FSD is no different than it would have been had it been "FSD (Unsupervised)".

FSD has definitely taken longer than everyone hoped. I'm, however, of the opinion that this is a good thing. Achieving FSD was a crazy hard problem, and this means Tesla's lead is bigger than I thought. Had it been as "easy" as Elon thought, it wouldn't have taken long for others to follow.

@@Alperic27 Buses are one thing that would make sense to make autonomous. Their large size as we see right now is because of the economic incentive of having just one driver for many people (bus drivers are the main cost of running buses iirc). Smaller buses means you can have more of them which means less waiting. Also autonomous buses would allow for 24/7 service and way more flexible lines (if a line's buses are not used enough just reroute them to other lines). It would also remove a lot of the dangers of running a big vehicle as a human aka blindspots and having to look at so many things at once. The prototype shown is a tad small and too luxurious for real world application, but something similar could definitely make sense.

However the cameras frame rate can essentially sync up with the pulses which looks like flickering. Also since the vehicle uses beam lights each LED creates a narrow cone adding to the chaos of the flickering :)

The Robotaxi needs to have an attachable joystick/flightstick on the center console for manual one hand driving. Push forward to accelerate.... pull back to brake/reverse.... left/right for turning. If they could sell that design with manual driving ability and with 250 miles range for 25 grand they would not be able to make them fast enough.

Thank you for a considered and concise piece on the event. I’ve been astonished by how much negativity I’ve seen in the comments on videos. Mostly due to people having convinced themselves in advance that there would be new products launched at the event and there would be unicorns and fairies and everything you could possibly wish for… This was a Robotaxi and Robotics event. It never made any sense that they’d use this event to launch the compact model, or to start deliveries of the Roadster or anything like that. We know those products are coming, but anyone with an ounce of sense should also realise that they need their own events and they will only happen when they ready to go into mass production.

So you didn’t mention it in the video, and that was a huge mess… But what was the long delay about? Did someone faint or did someone die or was there actually a medical emergency? The stock is tanking 9% for a number of reasons and the delay certainly did not help.

Maybe the wireless induction charging pad comes included with the Robotaxi and it connects to the NACS cable at any Supercharger? No need to deploy a whole new induction pad network for retail customers? Kinda like how I can buy a USB-C wireless charging pad for my phone and use it with my existing USB-C charger base I already own. The Robotaxi reminds me of a 2 door coupe Model Y with Cybertruck DNA.

The scissor doors require a lot of real estate to the sides when open. Oncoming traffic might be an issue. Not sure.

i'd unironically buy that Master Plan IV back to the future movie poster if it were in paper poster form. Drivers? Where we're going, we don't need drivers. hah :D The robots are 1000% being teleoperated, in other videos there are instances where the audio breaks up like in a discord call/poor wifi connection on a voip call. Not that they aren't still quite impressive regardless.

About the Cybercab, the scissor lift doors seem to open wide to the sides. I wonder how the clearance is? But, they shouldn't need to in narrow parking spots or garages. Also, the large wheels and giant wheel covers look huge. Any idea what size they are?

I'm guessing the tyres are quite a fat profile for ride comfort and it looks like the wheel covers extend over the sidewall a fair bit.. Guessing at 18" or 19" wheels with fat tyres..

But what does it mean for Model Y prices now - don't see a change on their website. Also, are any new versions or improvements to Model Y, Model 3, going to be released for 2025? Looks like that's not going to be the case other than pushing some software updates.
