Testing out the Tesla Model 3 in the snow, to see how it handles in the slippery conditions.
Does the weight, instant torque to the wheels or the slip start functions change how it handles? Also, what effect does regen braking have and should you turn it off?

Winter tyres make a massive difference to any vehicle. My old BMW 320D was fantastic in the snow with winter tyres. :)

I have to say, as we don't tend to get much snow or ice round where I live, I don't bother with winter tyres. So this was just on standard tyres, but I guess they would make it even better :)

@@TeslaTorque You don’t need snow to get benefit from winter tyres. They are better than summer tyres at temps below 7c. Well worth not pranging the car when you slide into something due to lack of grip. (Been there, got the t-shirt and the insurance bill) :)

@@TeslaTorque Not just even better it’s a huge difference. Winter Tyres will drive all day long up hills where the same car in normal or summer tyres would struggle. I live at the very top of a hill, it’s renowned in my city as a no go area in winter for Taxi or delivery’s. People ask why your Car has just passed the ten cars all stuck now on the pavements as they had to give up. The all wheel Model3 on winters passes SUV’s. One of the best driven was the All4 MINI CLUBMAN on winters. The only thing stopping the clubman was ground clearance.

In Norway driving after 01 November with anything else than winter tyres means a licence suspension on the spot. In countries where snow is a thing winter tyres should be legally mandatory. The problem isn't if the wheels spin so you wont get acceleration, the problem is that summer tyres on snow do - not - stop. And you crash and get a bunch of people into trouble and yourself too, but you might deserve it for driving with summer tyres on snow :)

If your car's capable enough and you don't actually go anywhere "challenging" it might not be necessary, but if you find a cheap set it's handy to have. The steels I had on my Corsa with Vredesrein snowtracks cost me £30, Tesla wheels aren't so cheap yet

This is something I want to do for my ioniq but could not afford as i cant even find a set of wheels at a scrapyard for under 100 a wheel so may as well buy new as would still need new winter tyres put on. As really going to a garge to swap out tyres for winter and back again in summer would be silly due to cost each time you do it but people do.

Can you comment on your type of tires? In Canada (Montreal) it is mandatory to have winter tires on from December to March. Is it the same thing in your neck of the woods?

Nope, not a legal requirement, so I had normal tyres. Snow is not common round where I live, so not worth the switch. Winter we’ve just had, temperature rarely dropped below 5C (appreciate they are safer in colder temperature too, but not worth the switch here)

Any advice? I have the 2021 model... Love it, so much more fun than fossil cars 😁. However I don't have the option in the drive settings to reduce the regeneration. Software version v10. 2 or 2020.48.30. Also still got my mud flaps on too, no bother really, only a slight whooshing sound when I go ove speed hump, sounds cool I think 😀

I think in the UK (from what I know at least) we don’t tend to focus so much on winter tyres unless you are very into your cars. So when it does snow all rear wheel cars struggle. It only takes a light fluttering and the UK comes to stand still 😂

In terms of speed, it was pretty slow, just to get momentum a lot of the time, unless I saw an incline, on the declines, it was probably less than 4mph, as conscious of the weight of the car and sliding down a hill. Aware the shots looked like I was tanking it, I think it was the wide angle lens made it look quicker , and some bits to the camera there wasn't any snow on the road, as it melted ridiculously quickly

You make good videos, they are entertaining and informative without being patronising. I'm just messing about overtly critical. If you don't mind the wheel swap every 6 months a set of winter 18s and summer 19s or 20s are a good option would probably even up the winter and summer range and you'd have that look you want and be on better rubber for the seasonal conditions. Tyre reviews is a good source on here. Also Tesla Guru's are upgrading the suspension and strut brace for a better all round driving experience on a TM3P. I like the performance look but without the harsh ride so would be good to see it done on a SRP. Rumours of air suspension coming later this year as the beta software has the air ride icon and that would fix this and really bring the TM3 because springs are very ICE..
