The best model 3 there has been. I used to have a 2022 model 3 standard rwd. I swapped in September last year to the exact same car as tested here and in fact must be register the same day looking at its reg plate. I have covered almost the same range as that one and my average over 13000 miles is 214whm. I have also on a mixed journey of motorway at 70mph and a bit of 60 mph roads had 390 miles of range. Yes it was a hot day and ideal conditions but still this is a great car and if you can somehow get your hands on a used one, worth every penny! It’s also more fun and responsive to drive with the older battery compared to the LFP in the 2022 one I had. Great video as always Rich!

I was intrigued by your comment about efficiency and cross climate tyres. We swapped our Continental "summer" tyres on our ID.3 for Michelin Cross Climate 2's last November partly because the oem tyres had been neglected by the first owner but also because we wanted better winter and wet weather grip. I expected to see a reduction in fuel economy from all apparent knowledge on the net and in the media. If anything we have seen a very slight improvement in economy so my verdict is that cross climates do not affect economy negatively. At least, in our test of one!

Interestingly you can buy a Model Y RWD with a big battery in Germany and the Model 3 RWD Highland, with a big battery, is available in the USA for a mere $29,990 after incentives. When is the UK going to get a full complement of models and battery configurations, at the lower prices that everyone else seems to enjoy? Just not good enough.
@WisdomAndCats2 ай бұрын
That $29990 figure is after estimated gas savings, not the real after incentive price, the real price is $35000 after US federal incentive (if the buyer qualifies), and close to $37000 including destination and order fee, before sales tax if applicable.

Cracking car, I just have the normal RWD (2022) and it always blows me away the efficiency. The bigger battery of the LR RWD would be great, but I still get around 250-280 from a charge in the SR RWD, which is amazing. It’s a superb car which costs me practically nothing to run, performs well, is nice to drive and had all the tech I need. I don’t do a huge amount of miles so will probably just keep running it for ages. In a way it’s so cheap to run compared to a petrol car, that I aren’t really bothered about the depreciation in a way.
@harrycorry37722 ай бұрын
Just an observation about the "getting a full charge" overnight at the low cost you mentioned. Most people in the UK (if able to charge at home on an EV tariff) only get the 7-8 pence/kwh rate for 5 or 6 hours meaning that the max you can add to your car is approx. 35-42 kw. Beyond that you are paying the standard rate which can be 4 times the cheap rate. If you have a large battery, then you can't get a FULL (0-100%) charge at the cheap rate. So, it might be more accurate to point this out when quoting overnight charging costs.

I have one of these - I think the motor is different and more powerful than the standard rwd M3. Performance figures are a bit better, and it must be heavier with the bigger battery. Mine just had all 4 tyres replaced under warranty due to the foam delamination issue on the Michelin ePrimacy tyre, which really badly affected how it drives. Car is so much better now...
@scorzonthedawes2 ай бұрын
LR RWD is just 9kg heavier according to a quick goggle of kerb weights so that isnt making much if any noticeable difference in performance. Also I don't think the motor is different. One thing to remember is that IIRC the larger battery which is NMC delivers power more quickly (and also charges more quickly at peak) than the smaller capacity LFP and this could account for the slightly better performance of the LR RWD
@AlanCleaver-q1o2 ай бұрын
Worth mentioning that even without a cheap overnight tariff, real world costs can still be considerably less than your worse case scenario. We are currently in a rented house without a home charger so we are charging our ID3 and Model Y from a granny charger, hence a cheap overnight tariff (and the subsequent slightly higher peak time charge) is no use to us. We are on Octopus Tracker Tariff which is currently an astonishing 14.7p per kWh. E.g. 20k miles for about £700. Not bad I reckon.

If your destination is home and you are familiar with your car it’s not implausible to arrive with such a low percentage knowing you have a buffer and indeed some cars won’t even invoke turtle mode or noticeably engage energy saving - like reducing power or reducing max speed until very deep into the pack. I returned home yesterday to the North East England after a 283 mile round trip ( Newcastle to Falkirk, Scotland - Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel and back ) in my Genesis GV60 RWD with just 3% battery on the trip computer showing 3.9mi/kWh. And even at 3% there was no noticeable capping of the power. SUV shape of GV60 obviously not as aerodynamic as a saloon. And give Tesla credit where credit is due they seem to have very efficient EV.
