@MarkChinsky2 ай бұрын
So yes, there are 'improvements' but it sounds like 96% the same car. There had to be something more to make that big a financial investment in what is virtually the same thing. Other car brands, there can be really big differences between 2021 and 2024 but with Tesla OTA updates, they somewhat disincent you to upgrade. Especially when they aren't running FSD transfer deals. Did your old one have a ton of miles? Were you/are you leasing? Also curious. Given the really expensive tires and rims and insane performance, might I ask what you pay for in insurance in NJ (I live here also) and did you take out some kind of separate tire & rim insurance? My guess is a set of tires will set you back at least $1,600 without any road rash issues. I had an Infiniti Q50 Red Sport a few years back with run flat low profile performance tires, and it turned out to be like a 3rd of a lease payment a month practically in wheel and tire costs and it gave it a crappy ride compared to the bigger sidewalls.
@BlackTesla2 ай бұрын
We wanted to get the best version of the car and the opportunity to get a lot of the things we thought we paid for and transfer FSD was the seller for us. The old car didn't have a ton of miles but was incomplete and cost way more just didn't sit right with us. We've been here a while so we know how to navigate potholes....only one to curb the rims is FSD 🫣
@MarkChinsky2 ай бұрын
@@BlackTesla Yea, the 'run flat' tires Infiniti used would go 'flat' (meaning you could drive 50 miles before having to get it replaced) almost every time you hit a big pothole and as you know in NJ, one of those can sneak up on you any time. If they didn't go flat, they would get a bubble that required tire replacement. So happy I spent the $2,100 for 3 years or tire and wheel insurance because I went through so many tires, that I never need to pay for replacements due to wear and probably had 5 or 6 visits for wheel rash repair. Without the Tesla cameras it was so easy to miss an unexpected curb in a parking lot etc. It does amaze me how (never been in or drove one) the S now looks so similar to the Model 3 inside with just slightly bigger dimensions and yet costs almost 2x as much. You would think they would stuff in some Mercedes/Lexus like 'trimmings' in the interior to differentiate it from the Model 3. I do think externally its still one of the nicest looking cars on the road (which you can't really say about the X or Y and about the pre-refresh 3) Beautiful car, good luck!

Congratulations on the new car, and thanks for this review. You cover all the changes well in a concise and soothing manner, very helpful to me. I also like reminders of the old executive seats and other Tesla trivia. I am considering upgrading my 2018 M3 to a new LR Model S or the AWD Model 3. I sat in a new Performance Model 3, and while the seats would be great for autocross, they are not as comfortable or easy to get in and out as the seats in the AWD. I like the smaller dimensions of the M3, but also like the more substantial feel of the Model S. MS also has bigger screen, better audio, and more sofisticated suspension (air + adaptive damping + virtual ball lower A-arm). I am willing to pay extra for the S, but I really want to have both cars.😅

I went from 21s (Pilot Super Sport) to 19s (Pilot Sport All Season 4) on my 2019 Model S and didn't see any difference in efficiency, basically 310 Wh/mi. The tires have the same rolling resistance, so it makes sense. Most people get the 19s with low-resistance tires, which explains why most people think the 19s are more efficient. As for weight differences between the wheel sizes, if you're using regen braking most of the time, you get back most of the energy that you put into turning the wheels, so again it's a wash. Great review! I look forward to the day the S goes steer by wire, maybe then I'll finally upgrade. That would make the yoke make sense.

I guess my 2016 1/2 P100D is the best of all the models except for the plaid speed because all of the things besides that portrait screen and the rear screen I have. I love having a sunroof, seats are bolstered well, heat and cooling seats, Ambient lighting, 21 or 19 inch wheels, FSD, HW2.5 and ultrasonic sensors :-)

P100D was nice we went from P100D to plaid and the difference is night and day. You should definitely try one out.

@@BlackTesla yep I buy used only - they’re getting below 50. So y’all keep leasing the new ones, it’ll be in my garage eventually :-)

awesome ride, but the new 3 is realllly nice and comparable with the refresh idk would wait for a refresh at this point on s and x
@BlackTesla2 ай бұрын
The 3 is nice compared to the old 3. It's still not nicer than the S. You'll need to drive them both to see what I mean. A lot of people are drawn to the 3 because of the price and it is a great value for the money but it's not in the same class as the S imo.

Good to see a brother when a dope vehicle. I have a model x brother, what you think, a 2018 model x, I was thinking of trading it in but for a 2021 plaid?
@BlackTeslaАй бұрын
We have a 23 X as well. If you don't need the utility of the X but prefer the speed then get the 21 S.

Congratulations & good luck. IMO…The Model S plaid & the new 2024 Model 3 performance are Tesla’s best car. I lean towards the M3P for its price and also being very nimble.

And observations on build quality and/or paint verses your old car?
@BlackTesla2 ай бұрын
Better not worse, everything is better. Somehow Tesla builds poor quality vehicles then over time brings them to where they should be and we (myself) all praise how good it is...when it should've been that way all along 😁 but hey they are still a young in the auto manufacturing world so we cut them some slack
@JamesBond-qv2ht2 ай бұрын
@@BlackTesla I had seen videos regarding less than perfect paint and build quality on less recent Model S’s so I replaced my M3LR with a M3P. No regrets, but my next one will be a Plaid S (or whatever is the latest and greatest in a few years). Thanks for all the great content over the years.
