onkar phall theres a nice example for this. in germany there was a laboratory accident. a guy catched on fire and burned to his death. the problem was that the people that designed the emergency shower had designed it with 2 chains. he pulled the wrong one it broke and he died in pain. later researches showed that the shower was fully operational. it was just the wrong chain. design flaws like this can happen......

It's interesting that the doors really are different in Europe. In the U.S. there's a rubber switch strip around the bottom half of the falcon wing doors that stops them as soon as anything presses them. It's similar to the sensors in elevator doors. What really surprises me is that those sensors are on the door rather than around the frame mounted to the vehicle instead. If they were on the car instead of the door, your various appendages would be more likely to touch them and trigger them. By mounting them on the door when your hands will more likely be touching the door frame on the car, it makes them not trigger until your hands/fingers/sausages get smashed and bent out of shape enough to reach them. Obviously this is irrelevant in Europe since they lack those sensor strips but still. But more importantly, if you wanted to do a much more representative test, I'd recommend (especially since you mentioned BBQ) using some beef ribs or something where they're covered in meat but have a bone center. That would much more accurately model a human hand or finger than fruits and vegetables or sausages that have nothing hard inside. You'd probably want to cut them apart into 1-2 rib slices for a good test. And I *_STILL_* wouldn't put my hands or anything in there even if the tests were "successful"!

Those cars will be terrible lemons when they get older. Specially because of those doors and so much other electric stuff. I doubt those cars would last 20 Years without becoming really unreliable.

vitalis uhm no, you're wrong. The more electric parts a car has the more fragile it will become, it's not a speculation it's a fact. Electric parts are susceptible to dust, fluids and organic components.

valenesco45 Yes, generally the more parts anything has, the more fragile it becomes. Electric Engines are easily kept running but all the other "play" stuff like useless electric doors isn´t. Its not that I think those constructions are particularly vulnerable as such either. Its because fixing them would be very expensive. Its like with old luxury cars: at some point keeping them becomes more expensive than what the car is worth. I also think that in the case of electric vehicles in general, they will be outdated way too fast. Soon new batteries will outperform the current ones by a huge margin. So maybe once the current year teslas get old and their batteries too weak, they will just be scrapped.
