Just got my new Model X two months ago! I couldn't get enough videos on youtube when I was waiting for mine to get delivered! I want to return the favor so everyone can enjoy the eye candy!
The goal is also to educate those of you who are still waiting for your cars or considering ordering one.
Firmware at time of video is v7.1 (2.30.61)
Trying to demo how how little force is required to close the front doors. I did another video regarding the front doors and how they slam shut with over 50 pounds of force.
• Tesla Model X - Auto F...
There is no need to slam the door with such force. It is dangerous and eventually someone will have their hands caught and broken!
Tesla if you are watching this please adjust the doors so they don't slam. Should be a simple firmware upgrade since they electronic. You can clearly control the slow opening, just need to do the same for the closing. I know it looks good and it impressive to see it slam with such force, but it unnecessary as you can see in the video only need 3 pounds of force on level ground to get to the latch. Once latch is engaged it pulls the door shut!
Let me know what you think in the comments below!

I agree with your findings. I hope Fremont is listening.

you make an interesting point. however I live where we park on hills and a few times the door does not have enough force to shut and I need to close the door myself. so try your test again on a hill like you might find in San Francisco. I think you then understand.

Probably to overcome external forces like wind and incline etc.

The model X has many sensors around every door. Stick a carrot in the door while closing. The door will stop closing when the pinch sensors feel an object. Thanks for the video and your well thought out testing. Good details.

I've done multiple tests for the front door with carrots. You can find them on my channel. The pinch sensors don't stop quick enough when the doors are slamming with over 50 lbs of force. I first tried with a carrot the size of my thumb, then redid the same experiment with a carrot the size of four of my thumbs. Same result every time. The carrot is crushed. Tesla need to change the algo for the closing. It really doesn't need to be 50lbs.

I suppose it's designed deliberately to create the typical shutting of a car door and its sound. It's also similar to how a electric shaver can be designed to be really quiet, but people expect it to have a certain sound (a more quiet shaver is perceived to cut worse than an exact same shaver that is only louder)

find the steepest hill you can and park facing down.. then see how much force it takes to close the door... I also bet it doesn't slam..

How about show video(s) on how the headlights look at night low/high beams when driving

Maybe they put inverters in the doors that charge the batteries when you move them... I think places should do that on handicap doors. It could generate power to the grid until you actually push the button where it actually works normally.

First, thanks for sharing your videos. I like the 4k steams to see the details of the car. Secondly, man that's some real nit picking in all your videos. I feel better about buying my Model x now that these tiny things are the only issues you can find wrong with this car. Fantastic! Oh and btw, imagine parking downhill in San Francisco on a 30° decline. You bet you'll need 50lbf to close that door. At that angle the actuation needs to pick up 50% of the door's weight!

It still doesn't need to slam the door. The motor can control how fast it closes. The slamming will break someone hand. try it on a decline. see if it is any softer. the programing is not to overcome parking on a 30 degree incline. It is just bad programing. so fwd that don't work half the time is nit picking? middle seats that are as horrible as airline seats? unless you have to sit back there and try out the rest of the car you won't understand how bad the rest of the car is compared to the driving seats. middle seats that dont' work after you put a baby seat on each end making it essentially a 4 seater isn't nit picking. guess you don't have any kids and all your adult friends are under 5'6"? then the car is perfect for you! think you are the only one! happy for you!

I really hope this could be fixed in a firmware update. Until then I'll have to warn everybody.

Regardless of a door being closed using an automatic system or physically closed by a person, anyone placing their hands in the path of a closing door risks injury. I appreciate the passion of Tesla owners like you but this is a case in which I feel as though you are looking for Tesla to engineer their way out of any possible or plausible occurance that could potentially result in someone being injured, even if it's an everyday hazzard that's been around forever like hands in the path of a door frame.

Hi. I've read that the falcon wing doors don't have any sensors where the door is attached to the roof. Could you test that maybe using a carrot. Be careful not to crush your fingers. Does this create any danger for the kids? By the way. on the thumbnails when it says "WARNING", I think it creates a negative effect. It makes you look like anti-Tesla, which might be the reason why you are getting down votes. I suggest not using any text in thumbnails. The video title already explains what it is. You could use text in the video as long as it is not used in the thumbnail. Thanks for these test videos. I find them very interesting.

Safety Hazard, LOL... Yes when you put your hand in a closing door bones can break... Now research how many people injure their hands in cars of all makes. Then check how many injure hands in doors of all types. Everyone better get to redesigning....

car is standing 180° try it again with 25° or 15° Tesla design this way because the door have to close no matter what horizontal or vertical position of the car

the motor that closes the front doors are very powerful, it can do it without slamming. the latch pulls the door the rest of the way closed slamming or not. no need to generate all that momentum.

I agree with UltraStoat - If you understand anything about the motorized closing mechanisms within these doors and the fulcrum forces involved in consideration of location spread between the closure lath and the door hinges, these little show and tells are invalid. Taking the time to look at some of MEtv's other model X "criticisms", it's clear that there might be ulterior motives to these so named "safety" concerns. His efforts scream negative punditry sounding very much like the false "testimonies" of Tesla e-forum trolls out there. If you, Mr MEtv, are indeed a Model X owner, and I sincerely believe you might not be, stop worrying about what the vehicle does not do and enjoy it for what it does. Moreover, if you don't like the X, sell it and get another vehicle to criticize...just make sure you post some additional videos showing the world how you worry about the safety of all other manual doors in our society operated by humans that slam them well beyond the closing forces you seem so concerned about.
