After all these years, I STILL can’t understand why Tesla can’t get their build quality act together. It’s not like it’s rare cases that happen randomly…these are issues that many owners have complained about for years, literally. I love their vehicles and even own a Model 3, but it really makes me not want to consider another one considering the real possibility of getting one that might be well built and one that looks like it was slapped together

I once did a chrome-delete on a 2016 model X, the bad panel alignments were pretty much the same as on this new model X ... no improvement there. The new interior does look and feel better (in certain places), but overall still nowhere near what I'd expect from a $100K+ vehicle, but I get that same feeling also at other brands lately.

@tazeat

@@MarkBraggs Eh, it's kinda their halo car. It's not meant to be made in volume. The speed on a plaid is really ludacris compared to anything else similar. Plus I think the brand damage of having a "failed" car that ends up discontinued at this point in Teslas trajectory would not be worth the money it costs them to keep it going right now. Gotta keep making those Falcon doors.

As I said in 2018, German car makers will beat Tesla in luxury segment. For the same price, S-klasse MB cars look so much better, and the rich people don't increase the sales of Model X, or S, for years, they switch to traditional brends. Tesla lost its advantage in most areas - like battery capacity, range - and more and more Americans buy VW cars, looking better than Model 3 or Y. I have a feeling Cybertruck will be a disaster, as several SUVs look much better for 90% or more, and have some interesting specs.

Owned a 2018 X and now a 2023 X plaid and both definitely had lots of build issues. The list is long and frustrating. That said still the most amazing car I have ever experienced. I pile my 4 kids into a rocket ship everyday with a big grin on my face. The front windshield, the power, the falcon wing doors, charging speed and range, sound system and all the tech features that are continuously added. No matter what the cost, there’s no excuse for letting a car leave the factory with such poor quality control. This makes for a bad reputation for your product. Tesla has been in existence for over ten years and to still have these problems is inexcusable. From what I can tell all of these problems are at the original Tesla plant in Fremont, Ca. Perhaps Elon should shut that plant down and move completely out of California. If Elon would hire some Toyota Quality Control Engineers they would solve these problems. Rode in a friends Tesla Model X from 2017 and was very dissapointed. Cool tech, horrible car. Noisy as all hell, creaks and cracks throughout the entire car, leather seats making lots of noise, rubber seals starting to fail causing lots of wind noise and whistling, some fluid valve has broken several times and limited charging speed with no fixes. Only good thing about the car is free supercharging and decent EV tech. The rest is horrible for what you are paying, over 100,000.

To be fair, you are reviewing a specific car that is defective with known issues i.e. the broken glass on the falcon wing. That is not typical. I have had two model x’s, current being a plaid 2023, and neither of them had build issues. There are quirks with the software, but it is still the only car I’ve ever owned that gets technologically better after you buy it, not worse. And even the worst Tesla model x plaid is better than almost every suv out there imho. But I’m obviously biased :-)

Honestly seems like they’re putting the majority of their quality control efforts into the Model 3 and Y, seeing as how they’re the vehicles ending up in the most customers hands, so they want the majority of the word of mouth marketing to be favorable. Seems backwards, but that’s how it seems to work with marketing models like Teslas. Put your “best” efforts into wherever the bulk of your product is going, even if that product is the “budget” option.

It's frustrating to see yet another video about how poor the quality of a Model X is. Too many comparisons are made between the Model X and competitors who start at a much higher price point. 100k for a car with these unique features is hardly unusual nowadays. 40k used to be the price of a semi high-end car. Nowadays, that's the price of a Honda. I personally have had a problem free ownership of a Model X for 5 years now. I've put over 220,000 miles on it, and I've never had problems with the Falcon doors. At 190k miles I had to replace the bushings on the driver side suspension. That's all. Basically, whoever watches this should know there are many out there who have had their Teslas for years, worry free.

The X has been in production since 2015. I think the complicated assembly that’s required on the assembly line is the major cause of the poor fit and finish. This is not a vehicle that’s meant for mass production.

Bruh, it is literally the fastest SUV in the world AND can drive you around on FSD Beta. I'm not that hung up on "build quality" as Teslas are quite reliable.

Funny, Tesla has all of these quality problems, yet companies like Volvo/Polestar (which ironically build the EX90 and S60 here in the US), get flack for being owned by Geely, and their cars have NOWHERE near this level of shoddy build. Interesting how the perception of quality being subpar from Chinese ownership overshadows the blatant issues in US-built cars like these. Sounds like Tesla QC oversight is lax, no matter how many iterations of the same car come out. Unacceptable by any brand standards.

Damn watching this makes me so much more happier with my model 3. I know that Tesla is not known for their build quality and have never checked out a model x in person but this is so much worse than I had expected.

I love gull-wing doors but Not on the rear doors, seems pointless, as the rear seats get far less use. Model X looks like a great car but Tesla needs to work on quality.

Model S owner here and I know that both the S and the X are built on the same platform but the build quality is noticeably different. I love my Model S but I would not drive a Model X.

We contemplated moving up from our Model Y to a Model X. I just can’t justify the extra $30k, Falcon doors or increased complexity overall. I am baffled over the poor fit and finish after 8-years of production. 8-years! I would have rejected the vehicle if I am a buyer. This never would have left the assembly line at legacy auto manufacturers. Atrocious quality.

pretty disappointing seeing I thought they had vastly improved on finish. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger until they improve on the plethora of defects. "Heffe, do you even know what a plethora is?"

they did for the 3/y, most issues ironded out, My new build is perfect. I think they honestly and sadly don't give a shit about the X. Which sucks because it is such a fun car.

38:20 ... All Tesla's, to widely varying degrees, are factory sleeper muscle cars. Yeah the Model X Plaid may not have $100k this & that. But what the Model X Plaid does have is 1,020 torque vectored horses on adjustable air ride suspension @ 5,400 lbs and -- albeit somewhat snug -- seating for six AND you're 0-60 is in the high 2's, about 3/4 second faster than the Model Y Performance with 450 horses @ 4,500 lbs, seating for 5 overall similarly snug in the back ... so yes, the Model X Plaid, in my opinion, is worth double the Model Y Performance, currently selling for $55k ... and, by the way, the Model X Plaid just dropped some $18k in price to $90k (08 Sep 23). Anyway, enjoyed the review. Thanks.

im not sure if this was intentional, but the reason for the front door handle all the way at the end of the door was so you dont have to press the close button near the handle, you can squeeze the handle with the thumb on the inside and fingers on the outside and it just closes for you. way more natural motion

Makes the much smaller sales numbers understandable but you are paying for the gull wing doors ... the only in the Industry still...and Tesla knows this and is willing to accept the consequences. My only dislike for all Teslas but especially this is no mud flaps to keep the dings and gunk much reduced. Given the current price a Ford F150 et al more than worth the expense provided Tesla is willing to negotiate. The biggest collapse in the value of a used vehicle by percentage are the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y so "cheap for a reason."

@@mt2nv1 I actually have had no issues with DC fast charging my IX, even at EA stations. In fact, I picked it up in Baltimore and drove it cross country back to WA state the day I bought it. I mostly charge it is at home, and that is a breeze. I agree Tesla wins at the DC fast charging game, and I look forward to being able go use their chargers in the future.

@@mt2nv1 I agree the Supercharger network is superior and will likely be the real money maker for Tesla in the future when everyone adopts NACS but as it stands today if you can charge at home I would seriously consider other options besides Tesla at these price points.
