It's amazing to see 5th gear outlive Top Gear as my favorite car program and most importantly uncorrupted by its hosts. Thanks to the team for all they do. Love you guys.

100% concur. Fifth Gear is extremely underrated. Fifth Gear's informative yet fun presentation is unrivalled. I mean, they show you new vehicles, and then, in another segment, show you older alternatives to those vehicles. They even list common faults of the older vehicles they recommend! Jimmy's segment on explaining fundamental car technology for dummies like me is brilliant! Fifth Gear might not have a massive budget behind it like Top Gear does, but, it's perfected the balance of informative and fun. Man, I wish Tiff was still on the roster though, what a legend.

Hard and soft top. Drove like crap. Looked amazing. Got all my money back because an enthusiast bought it off me

Finally, a real test with carbon ceramic! I get in to so many arguments with people that say that iron/steel rotors are just as good as carbon ceramic, and don’t seem to understand fade is important. They always bring up the Porsche Cup series that forces you to use conventional rotors, but again don’t seem to understand they do that to level the playing field as cash-strapped race teams can’t afford carbon ceramic brakes. Usually those arguing with me I think are trying to justify their choices as they can’t afford CC brakes, but I swear by them on track - I can go out for a 30 min session and have zero fade from start to finish, and I wouldn’t give that up as it lets you maintain consistency. Without it you’re wasting most of your session as you can only set a PB on your non-fade laps, so how much is that costing you every time you go out? Carbon ceramic FTW! Also, F1 wouldn’t use Carbon/Carbon if steel was just as good (ok, Carbon/carbon is another step above Carbon/Ceramic, but the logic follows - the difference is they have the budget for the best).

27:26 That is why the Ampera is my favourite pick. Range extender EV makes a lot of sense as you don't need to wait for long times to get the battery topped full. You have the petrol engine that only works as a generator.

Well, E tron has an even newer, more comprehensive mid-life update, launched last week. And yes, sales are true representation of popularity, but says nothing about how good a car is. That said, model X has not sold well in Europe in the last 4-5 years, and the model update has not helped much.

@@GTO33 That is probably because the eTron is closer to the Model Y is size even if it is 15 cm/6 inches longer. Considering interior space the Model Y offers more utility. I own a Tesla Model X Long Range and as most owners know it will not deliver full acceleration unless the suspension is set to extra low. This is done to protect the front half shafts. In extra low the half shafts are straight and full power is delivered. I can get 0-100km in 4.8 seconds which is much faster that the Audi. The same applies to the lap on the track.
@sresto7943 Жыл бұрын
If you put a Jaguar badge on the audi and a VW badge on the Tesla i bet they would know how to drop the suspension, unfortunately your talking about 2 that love the Germans, I got board after the stats on range, yet we all know Audi isnt capable of their range stats let aloan abilities.
@DavidKent0407 Жыл бұрын
@@sresto7943 Yes, I'm sure they would. It's not as if Tesla software is very difficult. It is simple to put the suspension in very low and put in sport for the track test. The drag race was a lot closer than it really should have been.

Carbon brakes don't help with stopping distance. The tires, weight, and road surface determine that. The main differance is that Carbon Brakes have less fade, because they cool down much faster. They're useless on a drag strip. Yet essential for the track.

Why anybody in the right mind would buy an EV is beyond me unless they live in the Channel Islands and I’m not planning to bring it to the mainland. I drive all over the UK, yesterday I did almost 450 miles. The nice thing is that I did that in my diesel Mercedes and it was effortless. No worrying about range, no worrying about where I’m going to charge and no worrying about the amount of time wasted while it’s charging. EV’s are absolute rubbish, let alone the damage to the environment if people want to bang on about that. They should be banned. Let’s stick with tried and tested petrol and diesel engines which we know are reliable and can do a fantastic range taking five minutes to fill up!

Those Jeeps are awful. I drove an older one years back, same platform. The crash tests were quite serious failures for the latest models, with rollover issues unique to this car due to the solid axles and chassis. They also corrode in places you wouldn't expect and Crysler electrics are very poor. As much as they get stick, I have never had a problem with my Freelander 2 or my current Discovery Sport and I do a bit of mild off-road driving in the mountains for camping trips.
