I hear him say something about only Sync 3 working, I have a loaded 2015 F150 King Ranch with the 8" Sync 2 heat/ac/massage seats would this upgrade not work in my truck due to it having a sync 2 system?

That’s correct. This system was designed to interface with Sync3 components. So while it would fit in the dash, none of the connections would work.

It’s available now man. SDI has Gen1 kits. But you need Gen2 live valve shocks and you have to replace the front shock bucket with either the KHC or Camburgs buckets to support the shocks. Few guys already running them and soon we hope to get one of them on the trails to see how the trucks perform

I can see that it has my 2015 Platinum listed in the drop-down however please clear some things up for me. Does it maintain auto HVAC and steering wheel heat/seat ventilation on remote start? Does it maintain ambient cabin lighting color changes and massage seats? Does it loose any steering wheel functionality? I would appreciate some clarity on these. Thanks!

There are profiles built in that will match what options your truck has for climate and seat controls. The only item you loose is the cabin light colors. It can’t control those.

Yeah I know. we said the same later when we reviewed the footage. So we asked. They are running their own custom OS application on top of the Android OS. They don't call it Android OS based because they are not using the tabled or phone version of Android. Not sure what that means, but they do have a custom OS on top of it running everything with automative grade electronics you would normally see in Pioneer decks instead of tablet based hardware like their competitors.

Dewayne Font yes it does. When you setup the system, you pick the profile and options package that matches your truck and from there the climate and seat controls get added. There are a ton of profiles on this that cover the majority of the Ford Models.

I don't understand the fascination with these screens. What is the benefit besides being larger and just a different screen to be different? Seems to be more fiddling with many screens to make the same things happen.

FireTrail741 to me it cleans up the center console. I prefer clean and simple and the stock setup is busy. I’ve owned 2 Tesla’s now and love that clean interface and wish other manufacturer would adopt it, quicker. The only complaint I’ve heard about touch screen is those that live in cold weather. They have to take if their gloves to use them and that’s why manufacturers have not widely adopt them yet.

FireTrail741 there is some but commonly used control like climate are always on the screen and have shortcuts. On the music side yeah, there is some back and forth, but the sync3 is not any better. Such a pain to get it to Bluetooth audio. At least 3-4 clicks and it’s so buggy. We got much better results with the GU Auto Tech screen. We got our hands on one of these systems and wi be doing a full comparison

SYNC is just worthless, I do not know if I have a defective unit or not on my 2018 5.0 Ford XLT. The whole SYNC system gets disconnected all the time using the bluetooth or reception would start breaking up. I does not matter if I use my IPad tablet, my Pixel phone or my OnePlus 6 phone I tried the master reset button and still the same. Now I like the big screen on your unit but I also like the CD player on my unit. This system does not appear to have a CD player and that is a big thumps down for me.

CD players have been dying for years now. Ford has not offered a CD played in their truck since late 2018. No new truck has one anymore. It’s a dead media and MP3s and Bluetooth have taken over. I’ve never used the CD player on mine. As for sync, yeah man. You should get it checked out. My sync 3 has worked great for Bluetooth and all that stuff

Napsterbater I asked about too because it stood out. They do it for reliability. The less bugs an OS has the better. They are in the process of updating the system so hopefully we see some changes in the OS soon

Yeah not for $1800 And even with that old of an OS there was still some lag and jerky ness to the OS which is likely because they are using hardware such as processor and such from that time, which is conveniently not listed anywhere..

FORDPASS access is key. Hopefully you would have FordPass implemented fairly quickly.. This seems to be a great product not there fully yet.

Gordon Henwood, Sr. After installing the display I found that Ford Pass features still worked. So it looks like they are not directly part of the sync modules. I was able to check the status of the truck and remote start it. Only the location service did not work.

Sorry if I missed it but did they mention if the steering wheel controls worked like volume up/down and previous/next track work with the radio? Also would be awesome if in your long term comparison if you could compare it to that phoenix audio or whatever it's called and see how they are head to head. I would be more convinced if the price point was half that and it retained my app I love to remote start with the app and I travel a lot so it's nice knowing my truck is still home hahha. But I digress I look forward to seeing how it holds up to the beating we give the truck offroad.

SERGIO ACEVEDO steering wheel controls are maintained. As for comparison we just need to find someone willing. As for remote access with the app, that’s built into the old sync3 head unit. Once it’s out of the truck all the app access is lost and Ford will not accept a 3rd replacement. Would be nice, but I don’t think it will be possible.

I think so. Check the links in the description. Fair warning though. I took it off my truck because I got annoyed with the bugs. Gave it to my buddy and he lasted 2 years before he got fed up with the bugs. From a hardware standpoint it never had an issue. But the software needs some work

Yes. The truck is designed to take into account what features you have. So if you have manual controls, you select the right vehicle and features and your manual controls will now be digital versions of them

The unit is plug and play with the original stereo. It’s sounds good and gives you better eq adjustability. If I remember right, it does have RCA outputs to support an amp. For not really needed.

We found out later that most of the Ford Pass features still work. I was able to remote start and lock the truck with the app. So there must be a separate module handling all that. But the price is steep for most.

We didn't check the profile, but it's suppose to replicate all the sync controls for the seats. Mine had heated and cooled. As for the sound, it's comparable to the stock Sync system.

Minh Tran I personals don’t use any of them except the Ford Pass remote start and I found out later when I put this system on my 2017 truck that the Ford App remote access still worked. The system is not for everyone. It’s great for those with base model trucks without Sync. Or those that want a Tesla like display.

Just wanted to say for $1,800 this is a joke. Oh and obviously the display isn’t smooth as you had to edit the video very noticeably. Linkswell Gen 4 will be $7-800 less. And the Phoenix is $1,100 cheaper! Pass.

Stephen J it’s not for everyone man. Phoenix or linkswell systems are tablet based. Meaning it’s the same as installing an android tabled on your dash. The GU display has automotive grade electronics. Pioneer electronics to be exact. That results in a huge difference in reliability, quality, and better sound quality. Hope to do a comparison soon to show the benefits and drawbacks of this display compared to the other systems. They do have some advantages over the GU display and hope to highlight them as well as the drawbacks.

Stephen J I’m not selling them man. We just did a feature of them on the channel. We found out since making this video, that the core of the OS is android with their custom interface on top. As for specs I’ll see if I can get those here in a follow up video. But honestly man, Android OS is not a plus in my opinion. I have an old 2003 BMW e39 M5. Lots of android based head unit replacements for that car. I tried one and the audio quality was just bad and the bugs were even worse. Only used that system for a few weeks before I got fed up.

Bret Marstellar CD player started to disappear in 2018. 19s and 2020s don’t have it at all. All the trucks with 802a I think have ambient lighting. but 17 was the last time they offered the RGB ambient lights where you can change the color

Bret Marstellar I’m talking Raptor man. All raptors have ambient lights. Only 2017 had the color changing (RGB) lights. As for CD, that started to disappear on the Raptor on 2018. I have no clue about other trucks and this video is about RAPTORS not regular F150, 250s, 350s. Raptors only so not sure where your coming from man.

Seems too many features are lost simply for the benefit of a larger screen. Is the sound upgrade better than factory? How? I’d prefer not to lose the lower controls on my Expedition factory system. Is there not an option for a screen that allows for keeping the lower controls? Do they ask for customer input when designing their models? Thank you.

This unit has no options to keep the controls. Others do. Sound quality is improved slightly but that’s mainly because they added a full EQ only. No features are low though. There are profiles for each model truck and suv so you keep everything. But the interface is a little slow and glitchy.

My 19 F250 doesn’t have factory heated seats, would I be able to run aftermarket heated seats through here instead of the ghetto looking buttons they use?

Probably not. Factory heater seats are controlled through the SYNC modules in the truck. You would need that features enabled along with the wiring to the seat from the correct module. Turning it on in the sync system is easy enough using ForScan. But the wiring is a whole different story. If your truck don’t have it, I would not even know where to start.

Minh Tran actually, Ford Pass features are maintained but yes HD and XM radio is lost. I personally don’t use either or the hotspot since my phone has all that so it did not matter.

Keep It Dirty Off-Road That’s good for FordPass. But I still feel that they removed features for the sake of cosmetic. Well-known aftermarket manufacturers like Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood/Jenson, and Sony don’t sacrifice any of those features, including FordPass now, but provide better sound. This and the Chinese-made ones are for people who just want a big screen with less features.

Minh Tran I would agree with you on the cheaper models. This one maintains the APIM module (I think that’s what’s it’s called) so all the remote features work. Some cheaper manufacturers don’t and those have limited functionality. Now this system does offer better audio. It’s got high quality audio internals and after a recent update it was a full EQ to allow for much better audio control. The system is not for everyone. I would say the stock system will work best.

Daily Driver we are trying to find someone to do a comparison. But these are completely different screen with completely different hardware. Phoenix auto systems are tablet based. GU displays are automotive based, built in the same factory that does Pioneer decks with the same quality components. I had a tablet based system in my e39 M5 and it sounded like crap and eventually fried the amp in the car.

Eville Truck there is an Android OS down there but the difference is hardware. The Phoenix system are tablet hardware based, even google classifies them as tablets. The GU unit uses automotive electronics. Very different vibration and impact standards. Also makes a huge difference with Amps and audio quality.

This system will fit any 2015 or newer Ford truck. They are working on a Mustang version too. Basically any truck that could get a Sync 3 system in its lineup, can use this screen.

It should work with any 2015+ truck without the B&O radio.

No, B&O systems were not even available till 2018. Check your center dash speaker for a logo to make sure.

Since 2018, all raptors have the B&O radio. GU Auto tech is coming out with a new unit to interface with those trucks

Keep It Dirty Off-Road gotcha. I’m just going to wait a couple months then order that unit. This is the cleanest install and user experience I’ve seen that doesn’t act so much like a tablet.

yep it's just a Chinese radio. and they made some changes on it and they paid him more per unit to change their logo on the boot up screen you can easily do that. I think it's like $10 per unit

Would not doubt it. Sound quality and reliability seems better than others, but it’s also very limited in what it can do compared to other android based systems

@@williamhall426 I liked Satellite radio back when XM ran things. they had good audio quality and less issues with signal cutting out. Today, the sound quality has really dropped with Sirus XM. I have the free trial right now on my truck and even with the B&O radio it sounds like crap. You can hear the compression, they added bass to try and compensate and it just does not sound good to me. So I won't be keeping it once the trial is done. I get much better sound quality from Apple Music, Pandora, and amazon music and I can fast forward songs I don't like on all of them. And Pandora and Amazon are basically free services.

Ramon Pasion yes, the truck microphone is used for phone calls and it also has a mic right next to the screen as a backup I think. I use it with an IPhone and tested the audio and it came it good and clear

It has a bunch of profiles based on the truck it goes into. So yes it supports seat messaging but I was not aware of any Ford trucks that could self park yet, so no to that one

When was that introduced? I don’t remember seeing any F150 could self park. Anyway, no I don’t recommend the system. I think it’s has a few limitations over the linkswell system. While this system has better components and will sound better, the other systems are tablet based and have a ton more features and flexibility. You can do so much more with them. So this system will be less buggy and integrate better, but the linkswell will have more features and capability but have more bugs

Steering wheel controls do work. But not well. Lots of glitches. They have improved it over the year but you still get some issue. Long press does not. Siri access is within the CarPlay app only.

Is there an easy way to splice the Carplay USB that's on the unit from behind or is their USB connection hidden inside the metal frame?

@@scottanderson6129 you can splice into the USB but I would not recommend it. Those front USBs are how you update the device and could easily be disabled. Steering wheel controls being maintained should be listed in their website. But it’s just the basics. Volume, up and down, source,
