The installation manual explains it - cable tie is for securing conductors to the little loop in the left of the backplate.

Hi guys, some of the information in this video was slightly incorrect. There is actually slight functionality within the Telsa app and you can also specify times at which the car is allowed to charge. The current Gen 3 price is now also £425 on the Tesla website, Jordan paid £460 when he previously brought one. Hope this clears up any incorrect information. Cheers team Artisan!

You can specify times to charge in the app regardless of the charger? What functionality is there in the app?

The Wire Tie goes on the wall place to secure the 3 wires. There is a small slot in which it fits in the wall plate. It is discussed in the installation manual... We can charge at 48 Amps single-phase because of the way in which we get out power. In the UK single-phase 220 volts is 1 hot + 1 Neutral. In the US 120 volts is achieved with 1 hot + 1 neutral, but the Tesla Wall Connector is 240 volts which we accomplish 2 hots + 0 neutrals.

The caple tie or zip tie is used to hold the electrical wires in place. It makes the wires look much more organized.

I would have mounted a box on the wall below the charger - feed the cable and the earth into that - then feed a single cable into the bottom of the EVSE. This way you'll have a nice point to interconnect in the future. You'll maintain the integrity of the unit and you'll ensure the future upgradability of the system. We've been putting in KEBA systems with RFID security - they look like an appliance compared to this unit...

Installed a Gen 3 last saturday, was my fourth tesla charger and third gen 3. Like the backplate and ease of connectivity. We only install them on three phase here. 5*2,5 and with 16A breakers. We mostly have 3*25A main fuses here

It should be noted that it is illegal to sell the Gen 3 wall charger in the UK as it does not comply with the 2021 Smart Charger legislation.

Not yet though, (2) The requirements in Schedule 1 to these Regulations do not need to be complied with in respect of a relevant charge point which is sold before 30th December 2022. As it's OTA upgreadeable I would be surprised if it couldn't be made Smart. The Tesla cars are compatible with Octopus Intelligent which does exactly what the Regulations prescribe.

We have 3 phase here in the USA just only mostly in commercial locations. There is even 2 phase in rare instances in some old installations such as in philadelphia, PA. I dealt with one customer in Philadelphia in a commercial store which had 2 phase. YES, THIS IS TRUE 2 PHASE AND NOT SINGLE PHASE WITH 2 LEGS.

The main benefit is if it fails (like water gets into the cable, connector or push switch) then then V3 will be easier to swap with a replacement! Thinner cable is nice too. I have heard that with the latest Tesla app you can now see the charger in the app...

It is thinner because it can not handle as much amperage. Get the cybertruck or something else that can charge at more than 48a, then you are stuck with 48a. Foolish for future capability I think. Otherwise 3 only gives you wireless sharing (gen 2 still gives wired sharing communication) and 3 gives wifi which really is not that necessary nor is sharing unless you are stuck doing so or need multiple chargers which homeowners probably won't need. I have no need for wifi. For what? I can control charge from car app. I plug in and charge. I will put in more than one that is separate. Gen 2 can still share with wired communication which you can run because you are running power anyway so what difference does it make.

It is thinner because it can not handle as much amperage. Get the cybertruck or something else that can charge at more than 48a, then you are stuck with 48a. Gen 2 can charge up to 80a on a 100a breaker. Foolish for future capability I think. Otherwise 3 only gives you wireless sharing (gen 2 still gives wired sharing communication) and 3 gives wifi which really is not that necessary nor is sharing unless you are stuck doing so or need multiple chargers which homeowners probably won't need. Gen 2 can still share with wired communication which you can run because you are running power anyway so what difference does it make. Gen 3 has glass front which is more fragile and people have had issues of cracking. I am an electrician and have installed chargers. No issues with space to work with in gen2. I actually have big hands but I guess some people have issues. I have 3 gen 2s myself and love the fact people are foolish enough to give up the gen2 and get 3s, because I just make out. I have built stands for chargers in remote locations for me and a client who loved mine and these open stands have roofs, lighting, a wall outlet etc and mine also has cameras on it. I do a bit more than just slapping on a wall.

The cable tie depending on where your power wires come in is used to secure your power wires and hold them. If I recall, there is a loop/hole halfway up on the right to secure your cable to as it passes around in the unit. Take a better look. Now I am worried about your attention to detail.

I think the Hypervolt is the best looking EV charger, and install is pretty “easy” as well, and imo, looks better on wall w/ cable compared to Tesla and others… Of course, if I had a Tesla charger, I’d spend the extra and get the separate accessory holder for the charger cable head. Install next to wall unit and plug into that to hold while not in use; as looks better than in main unit itself, imo. Thx and c ya L8R ✌🏻

Electricians need to check and verify what others are doing. That is why there are lockout padlock holders for panels at least for in the usa that allow multiple padlocks to be put on from different electricians so they can all simultaneously have control of the breaker panel without any one alone having control. There are also lock handles for breakers.

American here, can you explain the readings at 4:18. L1 to N was 227.8 (I get that). L1 to E was 145.9 and N to E was 148.3. Those two readings doesn’t jive with the first. And to each other. I can assume that the difference between each other is because the charge point has its own Earth rod separated from the main panel Earth rod. TBH, I don’t think that’s legal in the US, unless the rods are bonded to each other, even if they are on opposite ends of the house.

I'm not an electrician, but I think I would add another box like a wisker box under it, take the earth rod and connect that to the charger side and then connect the wire side at the consumer unit earth. So there is just a black box near ground level where they swap.

Don't use earth rods in the USA? We have a grounded system and I thought you guys do not??? (at least in the outlets, don't yours have only 2 pins for power and that is it?) We just don't need a ground rod for a remote charger because we ground back to the panel. But actually sub panels in sheds usually have a ground rod.

21:20 You can integrate the Gen3 it into Home Assistant and get all the stats out of it as well. So that really helps with home automation. For example when the car gets connected you can setup automations to turn on lights, turn on your kettle and turn on the TV or radio for example. Then in the morning you can turn off all the stuff in the house when you disconnect the car. All sorts of cool things, like color changing lights based on the amount of current its using to charge... Also you can limit what cars can charge from it as well and lock out other cars from using it. The later is setup in the web interface of the unit. Keep up the good work. Also just an FYI there are a number of newer cars in the market here in the USA that are now using 19.2KW on single phase, Porsche, Ford just to name a few. The Ford can also back-feed into the house to power it from the trucks battery pack via its EVSE. Instead of the small 13.5kWh powerwall you have the full battery capacity from the truck.

Is that actually a/the power supply cable that I see that is black to the right just a soft cable exposed mounted down the exterior wall like that allowed? That is crazy. Not even required in conduit? I might have thought that was rg-6 but it looks too big for that. We use uf which can be on the outside here, but that is still sloppy and subject to easy physical damage.

Summarising the vid: Customer enjoys wasting money - Artisan said no problem happy to help lol. Good vid I am fancying a Gen2 / Gen 3 to go with my ye olde Model S but really in terms of this charger verses the entire worlds worth of competition is is pretty lacklustre when you compare it with something like a Hypervolt. I dunno I am still on the fence. Mind you my parents paid a fair bit more for their Hypervolt than the 460 odd bucks this is. Hmm. Also one serious Q - why fit an earth rod verses the pen device as I was always under the assumption that a few metres of earth rod is inferior to the kilometres of cable and substations of the main grid?

The insulation is exactly why the grounding is useful. In the case of an energized chassis (from a short within the car, or from an external source) the grounding provides a ready path for the charge to go to ground as opposed to going through a person.
