Hey if you want to try this again someday there are regular 12v outlet stations in Alaska and many cold climate areas where you can plug your Tesla into overnight and it will miitigate the range loss from running the heat overnight. You can find campgrounds that have these all across the US as well. Also you can get firestarter boxes that will help start a fire :) Great video

Tesla Y is the most sold car in Norway where 96% of all cars sold are EVs. A country farther north, with longer distances, colder climate and more elevation. There are also far more EVs then petrol cars on the roads, and is is working great.

@EenYouTubeGebruikerАй бұрын
@kimantonsen5595 Norway might be more up north, but Norway is that strip of land tapping off all the heat left in the Gulf Stream so Russia is left with the cold. So Norway can get quite cold, but I think the area of Russia's Far East, Alaska and Northwestern Canada is like the coldest place in the Northern Hemisphere. Especially more inland. Doesn't mean it can't get cold in Norway with polar winds, but that area is colder. However, I'm convinced that just like in Norway, EVs are able to drive in Alaska as well with the right preparations. This means: More chargers, the cars should preferably be charged and parked indoors, the car should be heated while charging and the car's battery should be covered with a battery blanket to not get the range too much affected.

This is not really a video about how it is driving an EV in winter and cold weather. This is more or a video of how an unexperienced winter and EV-driver handle the drive. I live in Sweden. Winter driving is no problem. My car has around 300 miles (480km) range during summer and arpund 200-220 miles during winter. We have of course a much better infrastructure of chargers, but also, if you have some knowledge before you will have the apps needed and also you will know what app to use so you don't get those high prices where you use a third party app that takes roaming cost. Also driving on cold snow is not at all as slippery as driving on slush of ice. And you really need a course in survival and how to start a fire. :D

Here is some help While no car is "perfect" for extreme cold, Teslas are designed with features to handle cold weather well, including battery management systems that help maintain range in freezing temperatures, pre-conditioning options to warm up the battery before driving, and efficient cabin heating systems, making them a reliable choice for winter driving compared to many other vehicles; however, range reduction is still expected in very cold climates. Key points about Teslas in cold weather: Battery management: Tesla batteries are designed with technology to minimize range loss in cold weather. Preconditioning feature: Drivers can use the Tesla app to preheat the cabin and battery before getting into the car, optimizing performance in cold conditions. Efficient heating: Teslas utilize heat pumps for cabin heating, which are more energy-efficient than traditional resistance heaters. Range reduction: Although Teslas are well-equipped for cold weather, expect some decrease in driving range in extreme cold. Tire choice: Using winter tires with appropriate tread is essential for good traction on snow and ice.
Nice work, great to see somebody do this drive. Won’t be long for the charging networks to grow. Tesla is the only charging that is a good user experience. Haha, the fire bit, needed fire paste dude.

I am curious what sort of HVAC settings you used when camping. If it was not on recirculate, it would have to heat up all of the air for the vents 100f to just make it the same temperature as what you have it set to. Also, while camping, the defrost probably is not helping much either. I am curious if it were on recirculate and either face only or feet only vents if it could last longer.
