Getting my new Vaquero tomorrow, very excited for the new depth potential and the opportunity to completely re-hunt all of my past spots. This vid was exactly what I needed to get started - thanks.

Great choice! The "V" is a must for any one into detecting. It will bring out the best in your skills and make you a better detectorist. The decision to dig or not to dig becomes yours so listen to the tones, the tone edges, overlap swings by 50% and size the target. You will be surprised what this detector willl deliver.

Thanks Doug. The "V" is a great detector. It's so solid.

Thanks for the kind words Dale. The Cibola is the same as the Vaquero but it does not have ground balancing. I do own a Silver but have not done any videos on it yet. I owned an ACE 250 for a while and it's a good starter detector but it's not built as well as a Tesoro SIlver. It does have a fairly good disc and readout. If you have highly mineralized ground you'll need a detector with ground balance controll.

I've owned 13 - 15 other dtectors and none could out perform the "V". The "V" is simply an outstanding MD. Thaks for the comment.

Hi Ed - It's actulally simple. Simply turn up the sens/gain to max, turn up the Thresh hold to 3 o'clock, keep disc set to 9:oclock. If you're getting chatter back off the sens until it settles down.

@phenomicon Hi Dan - Thanks for the feedback. I think you'll find the Vaquero to be an excellent metal detector. Congrats on the silver coin, 1843 is and excellent find. Mike

@Warrior2460 - Thanks - Sand can be be tough. I had a MD that I had to GB every 15 - 20 minutes. It was very stable on dry ground and in tot-lots, but the beach. . . I never really found out why. Because I did 95% of all targets, this MD is a perfect fit - deep, accurate, solid performance.

In any type of soil if your detector is falsing, you need to back down the sens. There are many types of sand out there. There are some beaches here in NJ where I'm at 4 - 5 on my sens.

If you can run the sense all the way up without any chattering, great. The area I shot this video in had a number of high voltage towers through out. Nice finds.

@thebearjewkiller1976 - Thanks for the feedback and request. As soon as the temp climbs a it I'll be happy to demo the "all metal" mode. Have a great Christmas and New Year!

@oldtoys1961 Thanks for the feedback. As with all metal detectors, when you want to run "hot" you need to be careful you run it just high enough to the point where you it wont chatter. My Vaquero seems to perform best with Threshold at about 3 o'clock and sensitivity at 10. Also be careful with "air testing". The best way to set it up is checking a target (pre-planted) in the ground. These are great MD's. Great Hunting! Thanks agian.

@Daedalu I am actally working on that video now. The GT although a beep and dig MD much like the Vaquero is quite different is how the controls work. As an example, when you turn up the "Volume" it almost seems to increase the depth. I would imagine its possibly amplifying the gain on the input. Also the descriminator does not behave like any other descriminators I've used. I'll be sure to include these examples in my videos.

The Vaquero does loose a little depth, about 1", at the top of the disc setting which is common for many detectors. My MXT however does not seem to loose any depth at max disc. One of the reasons I kept it. I appreciate the comments and feedback. Mike

At 4 -5 I can still get down fairly deep in dry sand, maybe 6 -7 inches. Thats the thing you need to watch. Just because the tide is out the sand a few inches down could be wet. In sand dry down to 12 inches minimum you should be ok though. I own a Sand Shark which is excellent on the beach wet sand or dry.
@mjcz585311 жыл бұрын
Sure can. Once you Super Tune your "V" you can still rotate the Disc to ID targets. Keep in mind, you may loose a bit of depth at the higher disc settings.

@martelnews Hi - The Vaquero and Ciola are basically the same MD, with the exception of the ground balance control on the Vaquero. For me it was worth the extra $80, but the Cibola is still an excellent MD and in most cases you should do just fine with it. - Thanks

GB is done in the All Metal mode, then you can either stay in All Metal or swirtch to Disc Mode. ST is done in Disc mode. I rarely use the All Metal mode. In fact I rarely use Super Tune.

Thats a common problem with VLF detectors. The fix is to reduce your sensitivity until you're running stable. PI detectors are better for salt water beaches but with no disc, you'll be digging a lot!
@mjcz585311 жыл бұрын
No. Although the Outlaw has similar depth in the numerical range, in the "red zone' the "V" out performs the Outlaw by 2.5 inches or so. Naturally you can still squeeze a bit more depth from the Outlaw by pushing the sense, but not to the degree of the “V”.

Tried the Minelab 705 last week, really didn't see too much advantage over my Ace 250 with 5x8dd coil. Both machines had similar detection depths.

All detectors react a little differently to slight shifts or off-sets in GB. As it turns out, most of my detectors are a bit deeper with a slight negative shift.

hey 53 silver - I have been doing the same type tuning on my Vequero , I have been also turning the ground balance about a 1/4 turn to the neg and getting hits on a dime at 11".

@Warrior2460 - I use a Whites Surf Pro and Minelab Sovereign GT for beach work but I've used my Vaquero in dry sand with out any issues. Not sure whats happening, but I would try lowering sensitivity, and try both all metal and descim modes. What part of the country are you in? Let me know if you solve the problem - thanks

Just want to thank you for your great videos,I'm thinking about buying a Tesoro MD or a Ace 250/Garret.Do you like and have any videos on the Tesoro Cibola and the Silver Umax. Thanks Dale K.

yes, i considered the Sand Shark but was told they are only for the beach, i want to use one at home in SE Pa. also. Is this true with the unit? When i had the sens. down lower and took my gold ring on my finger under the coil, it would only read like 4 or 5 inches??

Does it matter what frequency setting you have it on when you go hunting? What's the advantage of having the 3 on the Vaquero vs the Outlaw with only 1? I want to get one that will find everything (relics, coins, gold.) Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

hi, great videos, very informotive as usual, could you tell which is your most favorite MD and why? which one you recomend the best for both inland and wet sad ( solt),?

First, it's not true that all deep coins are old coins. My oldest coin, a 1786 NJ Copper was only 5 inches down. All of my silver was within 7 inches and my "V" and my MXT will hit coins to 10". There are many reasons why some coins are deeper then others. I dig everything my detector sounds off on. The facts are, 95% of targets are within 6". The other 5% are well within most detectors. I simply lift the coil the check depth. I rarely cherry pick by the way.

Do you find that the Vaquero uses too much energy? It tells me the battery is dead, but when I put it in a meter, it shows it still has 8V. Why does it say "alkaline battery" in the compartment? Can you use re-chargeable (lithium_ion) ones? Mine can't seem to disc out copper pennies at all. Is that a defective? Threshold at max all-metal, some times it's the same humming sound, but louder. Other times, it's low hum that zips to a high hum, the repeats over. Is that a defect? Thanks.

how do you ground balance in an area w/ a ton of trash? also, I picked up my own Vaquero b/c of you! so far I love it but im still getting used to it! I upgraded from an Ace250

ok, i just read the manual on the Tesoro site, i am a little confused when it gets to the "super tune" section. It states to go into discrimination mode. Do you hunt all the time in discrimination mode or all metal?
@mjcz585311 жыл бұрын
I only use alkaline batteries although you can use rechargeable as well. Sounds like there might be something wrong with your detector based on all the other comments, but I'd have to use it to be sure.
@protozee11 жыл бұрын
what do you find about the positive ground balance that you favor compared to zero or negative ground balance?
@oldtoys196113 жыл бұрын
I found the super tuned mode doesn't do as good if you turn the threshold to the max with sensitivity to max. Too chattery. Mine works much better with sensitivity at max and threshold at the 12oclock maybe a little more but starts chattering at the 1oclock position. In air-test that setting did better than the all metal. Also I'm researching the 10"x12" DD coil for this machine and have had several emails from users that it retains excellent sens on small items while getting deeper on larger.

@XGCPR3D4T0R - You need to be in a trash-free area for GB'ing. I will look for a 2' x 2' spot that is trash free. You can loose considerable depth if your GB is off. Your best bet is to set the GB in an area clost to but outside your search area, even in your own yard. I found I can GB my "V" at home and still get excellent results whenn hunting heavy trash areas.

if you are running at 4 or 5, isnt it hard to find stuff? only gonna find a few inches? anyway today seeked the beach, i noticed with this unit it works great in completely dry sand. But if the sand is flat like the high tide came in, and just a little moist this unit sucks!! I would balance it, walk 50 ft. down and the balance isnt even close. I did manage to find a dime, couple pennies, earring (fake, shucks!), piece of copper, nail, 2 bottle caps about 14 inch. down. Not bad trip 4 1st

Next time your V tells you the battery is dead, maybe you could check that battery with a meter and let me know how much voltage it has left? I've read a few other posts from people who say their V can't seem to disc out pennies (neither does mine). So you're lucky that your V can. I hate digging pennies. Tesoro told me 1 9V should get 20-30hrs, and that pennies are too high to disc out. I wish I could get a definitive answer on the penny issue, tho.
@EdStaniszewski12 жыл бұрын
is that to "super tune" or just "ground balance" the unit?
