Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are verifiable legends in the sport of figure skating. The team has long been known for their clean lines, unison, chemistry and pristine skating technique. The 2010 Olympic Champions recently returned to competitive skating after a two-year absence. I caught up with Tessa and Scott following their recent victories at the 2016 Autumn Classic and Skate Classic International. Here is our conversation, as it happened, on November 2, 2016.

Appreciate the respectful way in which they speak about Meryl and Charlie. I agree that their rivalry pushed the sport and made it better. I believe both teams deserved their gold medals. They each had their moment when it was the right time for them.

ughh i need an interview like this in present time, about their journey till the end with the peak of 2018, also more about their partnership and relationship because they are great athletes and artists but it's amazing what they built. It's all the package that makes them the GOATS. We don't have that many interesting and insightful interviews like this with these two. I hope one day ❤

As it stands right now, Ice Dancing is the most exciting of all the skating disciplines this season and perhaps the Olympics as well? The choreographies are beautiful, athletic and so artistic and the schmaltz is gone. So exciting.

A new interview with them now post 2018 Olympics would be so wonderful!! I would love to hear their perspective/comparison on competing against P/C vs D/W and what they had planned and where they were emotionally for their 'retirement' post-PyeongChang compared to where they were post-Sochi!

Loved this interview. I like how you played the second half of their 2011-2012 GPF free skate. Remembering when Scott was a bit outspoken about their scores during the GP and the Final, then they changed the beginning of the free dance and started to win. Funny Face is one of my favorite free dances from them.

Tessa's look to Scott at 1:40 says - "oh, yea, we had some moments" - really adorable. She mentions "speed and power" - and edges, are what differentiate them from most others. Amazing that they won 2010 Olympics when she was still injured, and in constant pain - Tessa on the podium could barely stay in her skin - so cute. This is a great way to see them in a fairly unstressed environment - pretty honest and down to earth. I still, as a senior citizen, find it impossible to see them not becoming a family unit - this vid is long before their Korea win, and their responses to each other, and interaction appears to be totally loving. Watch at 52:01 when he embraces her and becomes somewhat subdued. Very disappointing that they will not live life together. This is a wonderful interview - very happy to see it.
@eilyn510
@eilyn510 5 жыл бұрын
Why do you say they will not live life together? They are very private people and we don't really know their real status. If you've been watching some videos taken by fans during their tours, there's no denying they're in a relationship, despite claims of some fans. Action speak louder than words. :p

Scott is such a treat to watch on the ice his movements are just perfectly executed and when he wears a complete black outfit it accentuates his movements better which is a treat to watch him.Then he also has to contend with all that lifting while seeing he stays upright on the ice he obviously takes the brunt of the strain of their performance.

So, I am not sure if I discussed this earlier in the comments, but this isn't a camera thing. There is no way to tell how skype will chop the video when it is filming. We set up the camera shot with them both in the shot at the beginning and then one of both of them moved slightly, which causes one of them to be cut out. it is one of the big challenges when interviewing two people. I would much rather not be on camera at all and show them both, but there is not a way to correct it. Sometimes, Jonathan will move after we start filming and it will look like one of us is higher or lower than the other. Jenny used to train me never to move for this very reason.

I was a big fan of them until they returned. I liked their grand style, high quality of skating, great taste in choosing music, their elegance and sophistication. But the truth is that it was not they, it was Marina and Igor. I think their return was a commercial project, all these 4 levels, high goes with not such a good shape. And their music choice, she suddenly became vulgar, she dances with face, not with partner and music. Scott was so elegant and light, but he became heavy, bulky, and clumsy. Their gold on wc 2017 is shameful and ridiculous. Looking at them, I feel nothing but shame.

I couldn't disagree more. Yes, their style changed, but they wanted it to. They wanted to push themselves and see what they could do and how they could move differently. Their skating skills improved so much when they came back and they skated with more passion and power for sure. They are the best in the world and will always be legends in the sport.
@DeserveGold
@DeserveGold 4 жыл бұрын
@@laura8694 It doesn't work that way. It is impossible to improve your skills without training for two years. If it is possible, then you could pump up your abs or buttocks while sitting on the couch. It is impossible to improve your skating skills by performing on shows from time to time. I don't care about their passion and other bullshit. They started skating worse, harder, and their first place at the 2017 World Cup is a shame for the sport. He fell on the step track and the Canadian judge gave him +3. They skated so dirty, so hard, and all their steps were not worth more than a second level. But the Canadian federation led an aggressive policy in ice dance and everything became possible.
