Buy it. You won't regret it. I've got an '11 duramax and I love it. Don't let these guys talking crap about it being too nice of a pickup wear on you. Buy what you want and get after it. It will be a great farm and personal pickup.

The hill descent is for steep downhill travel under 30 mph and it uses the braking system. A 3500 Denali seems like a lot to haul a few buckets of corn, especially if you don't tow, but it's your money to enjoy as you please.

To fancy for a farmer! I am a building contractor and I run the 3500 work truck. it has a back up camera and OnStar, it just doesn't have the leather and carpet that gets trashed anyway.

I just bought a Silverado 1500 and I love it, they have leather and rubber inside instead of my Fords plastic and cloth. The voice command is a little sketchy though but mechanically the 5.3 liter Chevy is much better then the Ecoboost F150 or Toyota Tacoma's V6's I have owned. For farm work you want the 3500HD, it's better to have the extra capacity and not need it then need it and not have it.

Add a cushion receiver hitch and a set of nitto terra grapplers. The factory hitch versions don't weight transfer as well. Terra grapplers have great mud traction, last a long time if rotated, and aren't so aggressive they howl. Most new pickups sold in my row crop farming area are Denali or King Ranch so don't ever feel a truck is too nice to use. I've got 170k on my '11 Denali HD Diesel and no mechanical issues. Just take the leap and figure out the blue tractor next. Maybe a yellow combine to match the yellow skidloader/backhoe. There is going to be a shortage of farmers and having nice things as a younger one only makes it easier to not fund a dirt and iron expansion at the same time.

Two thoughts: 1. If you are going to stick with the GMC (vs. the Chevy), price out a SLT loaded package. The best thing out of it is you will lose the sunroof, which WILL eventually leak, especially in snowy areas. And you will save about $8K. 2. I you are putting enough weight on it to engage the overloads (i.e. the "3500" parts), go with a dually. They are a LOT more stable at those towing and hauling weights. I've pulled equally heavy loads behind both, and the dually is much more manageable.Just my $0.02 worth.

Several years ago GMC use to run an ad that said "It's not more then you need, it's more then your use to", they should bring it back. The great pair up would be if GMC paired up with Cummins and Allison, now that would be a pick-up truck! Down side of Duramax is it has fuel gauge issues.

My advise...Mull over it. Then order the exact truck you want with whatever options and color you like. Many of the options on that truck you don't need and are a waste of money as well as more to go wrong in the future. Don't be in a hurry and shop between dealers. You can email and work out the deals without traveling all over the place.

Unless you put on a lot of miles each year, there are a lot of good used ones out there. You won't feel that bad when you climb in it with mud and sh*t on your shoes. Also if you plan on using it as a farm truck it won't be long until there will be a lot of dings and scraps on it. Just my 2 cents.
