in my opinion this is your best video yet. I remember as a teenager my father and I helped our neighbor plow a field he had that was about 60 acres and we had 5 tractors with 2 and 3 bottom plows in that one field what a sight ! Great job.

I run antique equipment on my small garden, it's only about an acre. I plow because it's all I have. I plow then run a cultivator to break it up.

Timmy Feltmann Not entirely true, I'm in Ohio and we just finished moldboard plowing today on some sod that we hauled manure on last weekend. You can definitely plow in the spring, the old timers did it.

Yeah I can't believe they're not using a rolling basket behind those disks... they really do a beautiful job and leave the ground firm with a little loose stuff on top and ready to plant. I run a 23 foot White disk with a 25 foot Unverferth rolling basket behind a Case 4890 4WD for my BIL in northern Indiana in the spring ahead of the planter, and it just does a BEAUTIFUL job... He's got a lot of different soils, all up and down the hills in the same field, from really light sand that with just the disk is SO fluffy that the planter just sinks in and bulldozes and leaves the seed planted in the bottom of 4 inch deep "trenches" where the planter gauge wheels sorta "plow-rolled" through... You can't walk across it without sinking in... but with the rolling basket pulled behind the disk, it's firm with an inch or so of looser soil and residue on top, ready to plant, and the planter rolls through smooth as silk. On heavier ground, the disk will leave the ground cloddy and rough. With the rolling basket behind, it breaks all that up and smooths it out, firms it up somewhat, and eliminates all those air pockets that dry the ground out, yet it leaves a little loose soil and residue on top, which dries out and makes a thin layer of soft dry soil for the planter to run on, which eliminates mud sticking to the planter gauge wheels, while at the same time protecting the soil beneath that's been firmed up, so it doesn't dry out and "turn to concrete"... and that way your planter is planting into firm, moist soil without all the air pockets, so you get quicker germination and more even emergence. When we row cropped down in Texas, we farmed on raised beds. I had pulled drag harrows behind the hipper on the last pass before planting for YEARS until I got some rollers (big pipe rollers) and switched to that instead. It was like night and day difference-- the rollers left the ground smooth an firmed up and the planter rolled across it smooth as if it were rolling over asphalt... no bouncing, no need for row cleaners or V-sweeps or anything ahead of the gauge wheels to knock the clods off the top of the row or push crap out of the way... just smooth sailing and even planting depth, good closure of the seed trench, and even emergence. The drag harrows had busted up or rolled most of the clods off the tops of the rows well enough, but some made it through or bounced over the bars or rolled under the harrows, and the whole bed was still loose and fluffy with air pockets and tended to dry out too much... the rollers firmed the soil up and brought the moisture right up to the surface, and eliminated the air pockets that tend to dry the soil out much deeper (2-3 inches deep, right in the planting zone). The rollers brought the moisture up into the planting zone to ensure quick germination and emergence. Within a few years, most of the guys around me were pulling rollers behind their hippers, or pulling a roller across the field just ahead of the planter. If I were row cropping now, first thing I'd buy was a good rolling basket... those things just do an AMAZING job, and they don't take that much power... they could EASILY pull the thing behind the EXISTING DISK-- no need for a wanna-be "vertical tillage" disk. From what I'm seeing, 90% of the improvement in the job it's doing is because of the ROLLING BASKET behind the rear gangs! I wouldn't believe it either unless I saw it myself, but having seen it on the BIL's place, I SEE why those things sell like hotcakes in Indiana and elsewhere... Just night and day difference.... @@tiger5551 Yeah they're not cheap but you can get older units used reasonable and as for power those tractors should handle it, they pull pretty easy worst is if it's wet and they start to sink in our ball up but if it's that wet you shouldn't be doing tillage or go around the wet hole... OL J R

You guys should buy one big articulated tractor and one big vt tool. Big tractors are cheap now and they can really cover the ground.If you have never driven one try one and I will assure you you will never go back. The power is amazing in these machines. The drone footage was great.

We only have a 16 foot disk to run on our farm and its the first plow we run in the field after wheat harvest as our chisel plow can't handle wheat stubble at all so I understand the hassle of working with small plows.

I use a 7.5 inch disk spacing so the clods are smaller. I sharpen when the edge is not sharp for good cutting. /your 8235R would pull 29' wide easy with your soft loam soil.

Watch those bearings in the back. We have a case turbo till (literally exactly the same thing) and all the bearings were bad this year. You can get them pretty cheaply online

High concavity disk are beeing replaced by conical low angle disks for varius reasons. Old times, they just wanted dark clean topsoil, that is achived with a high angle disk. Nowadays its been proven that mixing (rather than turning over) is more effective for decoposition.
