Test Fitting The S54 into the E30! BMW E30 S54 Swap Part 4

Test fitting the s54 engine and Getrag 420 6 Speed Manual transmission into our BMW E30 with ‪@BMWselena‬ ! Before we can start the test fit of the E46 M3 engine and trans we had to strip down the S54 so that it would be easy to maneuver into the tight E30 engine bay. We removed the engine harness, headers, and a bunch of the accessories for the first test fit. Hopefully we can get everything to fit and mount properly in the next video. Be thankful that this is not an E21. Trivia fact: the first gen E21 was actually only meant for a four cylinder. However the E21 weighed more than 2002 it replaced but still used the same M10 four cylinder between the two cars. The four cylinder E21s were widely criticized for being heavier and slower than the beloved 2002s they replaced. BMW didn't have many options at the time for the M10, so BMW shoehorned the then new M20 (your S54's grandfather essentially) baby six into the E21. This required completely different front and rear subframes between the four (315i/316i/318i/320i) and six cylinder powered E21s (320i/6 and 323i). This is the only BMW ever made to get unique front and rear subframes as well as unique front subframe, engine cradle and rear sub floorpan. BMW designed the 2nd gen E30 to accept either engine type without such massive structural modifications (which also explains why E30 and later cars are so popular for engine swaps). Incidentally, the USA never officially received the six powered E21s so these are exceedingly rare and valuable cars if you can find them. Those are also all Euro spec ( smaller front and rear bumpers, metric speedometer, etc).

I’ve got an extra bare S54 intake plenum that I used as a donor for my CSL box (needed throttle boots and a few bolts from it since 04.5+ uses different sized boots) if you want it. Pay shipping and it’s yours.

Very nice Project. I can only give the tip to leave the bodywork as original as possible, no pipe front etc. will keep the value up😉 There are some s54/s50 conversions out there, much fits original BMW. As you said in the video: m50 oil pan, m50 oil pump, VW Polo/Golf 2 or Smart brake booster. But you will make it 👍wait for the next video...

Hi i have a 2008 bmw 535xi and i replaced the valve cover gasket and the oil filter housing gasket but when i do a pull on 2nd gear the car smoke from exhaust blue smoke this happened after changed the valve cover help

Dont mind my English I need your help please 😭 so I have a e46 n42 automatic transmission every time in the morning or if the car stays to long when ever I turn on the key the interlock solenoid moves up and down, make a clicking noise and cog light every time. I tried servicing the transmission but still the problem persist so what can I do

Take consideration of the turbo positioning before you locate the engine.

It's an S54. Doesn't come equipped with a turbo from the factory. The S54 already makes 333 hp from the factory which is already a huge amount of power for this E30 which weighs a couple hundred pounds shy of 3,000 pounds. I don't recommend getting absurd with the horsepower on such a small lightweight car. The S54 is already far more powerful than anything BMW ever put under the hood of the E30. Jason and Selena are already highly advised to strengthen that chassis before piling on more horsepower or that S54 will just twist that E30 like a soda can.

be careful about placing the steering rack on the new subframe if u mess up the install u will suffer from steering issues for a long time

Definitely! There are a few options on placing the suspension and steering components by changing out the control arms and offset bushings along with different knuckles. Might have to mix and match a few things, but we will get it right!

Up until we started this e30 project we were spending approximately 1 day a week on our own cars (sometimes none) and the rest of the week was usually customer/friends cars. We are currently transitioning to full time content creation.
