it only works when the phantom is already at or higher than your set rth height and it see`s obsticals. eg flying higher than rth height and around a building, it will then fly back to home using the same route as it took to get there. its just an extra protection for when already at your rth height if that makes sense
@NeverMindYourOwn7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that one I get. But besides that DJI says there is internal mapping of objects and taking the best route back.

I think this is a good idea. Sure a safe path. But maybe also a path where it doesn't choose the shortest way back. ... Why did it crash? Is this a Android thing?

In your testing, you always leave an open space above the drone in case it needs to rise up to return to home. With all the sensors on the 4 pro, is there nothing that will stop it from crashing into a tree above it during a return to home?
@NeverMindYourOwn7 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. No sensors at the top and when rising during RTH it will hit something above it.

Love your videos... re this feature of the Phantom 4P to test... how about along a river bed with a tree canopy above you... you would have to set the rth ht at 10ft or so or maybe rth ht has to be 0 so the bird doesn't read any ht and has to rely on her mapping.

What really would be smart, if you could place your own "no fly" obstacles right on the map inside the DJI go App. Save these and upload them to the drone before flight. I would expect drawing a closed freehand line to define an area and give it a top ceiling by entering this number in the properties of this area. and for underflyable objects like bridges a second property "bottom ceiling". That would be cool.

Btw at around 4:45 u were completely legal with your altitude. You can fly over 400 feet if you are within 400 ft of another obstacle. Then you can fly 400 ft above that. So theoretically you can fly super high, but you might fly into controlled airspace. In that case, you have to contact the airport that controls that airspace. All of this is true if you are in the us, I just realized.

Would be interesting, what the manual says. 3D mapping of an area is a lot more than flying around a tree or rock in one or two heights. I am sure, the only thing what is mapped is the flown track and maybe only for a minute or so. And why should it go to the preprogrammed RTH height before starting the track back? The track itself (including the height on every position) should be safe. If the drone flies over the the track but in a fixed height (RTH height) it might now encounter obstacles, which were not in the original height. (A bridge or branches of a tree.) Guess RTH height is 50 m. You fly in 10 m under a 30 m high big bridge. The Drone loses signal under the bridge and goes into smart RTH mode. It climbs to 50 m (RTH height) to begin tracking back as soon RTH height is reached. OK, it tries to climb, but 20 m later it crashes into the bridge above it. Had it followed the track back in its original height (10 m) nothing would have happened.

Peter, I saw in the video that you were having trouble with the DJI Go 4 app crashing on your nvidia tablet. I saw were you said to delete other DJI apps and install clean GO 4 app. Have you heard of any other ways to keep the app from crashing? Is this only happening on Android tablets with the latest Android 7 update? I have a Phantom 4 and the nvidia shield tablet also, mine crashes after a few minutes of flying, same as yours appears to do.
@NeverMindYourOwn7 жыл бұрын
It's only happening on 7.0. If you have the HDMI-module installed, you might want to remove it, since that gives disconnection issues.

NeverMindYourOwn, I know you are using Nvidia Shield you can easily record your DJI Go app screen than using iPad device. From what i understand about this feature, there is no more to it. you did it all in your previous video. It's not actually creating an "Internal 3D Map" The wording on the website is misleading (Or Clever DJI Marketing) ;-) lol... All it is really doing is Automatically saving GPS Coordinates, altitude, and Direction data as you fly (Or if you prefer "Dropping Waypoints") That and the VPS safety Sensors preventing it from crashing if the GPS makes an error as it returns home...

@NeverMindYourOwn7 жыл бұрын
