With the perfect split and perfect clean system, how much extra debris would come off with the addition of a disc cleaner or tumbler?

With firewood, it seems like there is always more debris no matter what you do. Both the tumbler and the disc cleaner are going to agitate the wood even more, so more debris is sure to come off of the wood. The box wedge system naturally makes more debris too, so that's another thing to keep in mind. As far as how much will come off, that depends on how dirty the wood is, the type of wood and its bark, if it's raining while you're processing, etc. The cherry wood cleaned up decently, but there was still some debris that got by. The ash on the other hand had some nasty logs mixed in and the bark on it has a tendency to peel off in large chunks, so that would benefit more from a second pass through a cleaner.

I'm extremely surprised someone buys a PTO driven unit that requires 40hp. The cheapest Kubota retail is $22,411 + tax that has 40hp. That's a lot of money to be depreciating as a production engine. By the time a customer is buying the 405 they aren't just doing some side work on their land.

Hi Michael, this is a very good point. This machine will actually be up fitted with the Kubota D902 engine in the future. Lead time on that engine is a few months yet and this customer wanted to get making firewood now, so he took it as PTO for now.

Over here in Finland it's quite common to take the old mustard-yellow Valmet (worth s couple grand 😉) and power the processor. With the farms/homesteads #1 tractor with s loader someone loads logs. When the trailer (with higher sides 10-15 cubic meters) is full the old Valmet takes it to somewhere where it's emptied. Then they go back and starts over again. I have with great interest enjoyed a lot of homestead/woodyard/sawmill videos and I have a really silly question: What do you do with your older (-60 to -00) tractors? We often use them as "powerplants" instead of all of the smaller engines I see on many equipment. I just like learning new stuff, that's why I somrtimes have strange questions 😉🤭🤣...

@@johanneslaxell6641 I actually don't know what happens to all the older tractors. I don't live too close to any communities where tractors are common. Sorry.
