Had an upcoming job involving a stain grade garage door that had severe water damage/staining. The home owner was contemplating replacing the door to the tune of 3-4k. They decided to give me a go at it. I did a lot of research and eventually came across this video. I used this exact recipe. The oxyclean definitely cleaned up the door, but the large black stain only lightened up maybe 1/3 of the way. Once i applied the oxalic acid, the stain completely dissapeared. The door looks amazing now and the home owners are extremely happy! Thank you sir for the fine video :)

Thank you for taking time to tell that story, that is awesome! It makes my day to hear that one of my video really helped :) I enjoy hearing the video helped you, helped save a good ole garage door and helped save that home owner some money. I have become a true believer in not wasting stuff, there is no sense tossing out/wasting an good ole door that still has some life left in it.... even if /when we can afford it. It is silly to waste things. Helping out is why I make my videos and good words like yours are my only compensation.... and it is good words like yours that make it all worth while! Cheers!!

For sure brother! Every little good willed thing we do makes a difference, just not always do we recieve a pat on the back and a thank you. I watched videos that had 100's of thousands of views and couldnt hold a match to how helpful your video and procedure was. Im sure many more will run across this video and will benefit greatly from it :) i just found out that i will be maintaining all of the doors in this organization. I wish i could post pictures, as the makeover was profound. Thank you again, and ill be looking forward to more of your helpful knowledge.

@@myman8741 could you tell me how to use oxalic acid to your door. Then, do you think we can use oxalic acid directly on that door or we still need to use this Sodium Percarbonate??
@garypick6096
@garypick6096 4 жыл бұрын
I've heard that the oxalic acid is risky to work with and, if any of it gets into the wood and doesn't wash away, it can slowly accelerate breakdown of the wood, making the boards become brittle quickly. I don't want to work on someone's house and think it looks great but 6 months later get a call that the chemicals wore through their shingles.

What an excellent, clear explanation/demonstration for a beginner who has been dreading this chore. Really appreciate not poisoning the environment.

I agree it was a good presentation for a beginner, but "not poisoning the environment"? tell that to the billions of microbes that perished the moment they were subjected to the bleach. Not to boot, he could have gotten the board just as clean using only a fraction of the harsh chemicals.

I used the product from the Dollar Tree and cleaned my deck and fireplace, just mix it with hot water, let it dissolve and pour over the deck, let sit for 10 min then "lightly" scrub with a broom, let sit again 10 min and using highest pressure on my hose, water it off, let dry...incredible, looks NEW! ( and its so gentle, I used it to clan my teeth, ha!)

Good skill.... it works well... let the bubbles do the work and then scrub/rinse it off... and if you need it use the oxalic acid to brighten it.

As long as you use water that's a minimum of 70 C to dissolve the sodium percarbonate, that stuff works on just about anything! Once the granules have dissolved, it's fine to add cold water, or to add to washing machine on cold wash.

You are very welcome Michelle! Thank you for taking time to write some good words :) Good luck on your project, let it soak a lil longer than you think it should... and rinse a little more than you think is needed. In the end it is very satisfying to see the results!

My pleasure to help out. That is interesting about John Goodman and I. I will have to listen to myself with a blind eye and see... I will add that after using sodium percarbonate on my deck I have been using it to clean other things... and that stuff works great. Last week I mixed up a small batch to try to clean a stubborn filthy sticky area on my kitchen floor. I dumped it on, let it soak for 15 minutes and used a paper towel to scrub it off and.... WOW!! I am somewhat flabbergasted how well it works. The only problem is the filthy area was then so clean looking that it made what was (kind of) the clean part look filthy.... so I had to clean the whole floor. The next day when I went in to the kitchen I was stunned how great it looks. I am not paid to say any of this stuff... but still... I am happy to pass along how well this bubbling cleaner works. Next up for me is testing it on some white socks that are.... well... you know. I have high hopes that they will sparkle

Do you think I can make the ratio to where it's paste-like because I need it to stay awhile on the underside of a horizontal pergola post?
@7777jayhawk
@7777jayhawk 4 жыл бұрын
If it was me I would not do that. I would just keep applying it and applying, some of it will stick and then put some more on and it will stick. Maybe use a sponge or towel and keep it very wet... the bubbles will do their thing and I bet it will work. If not give a second try... maybe a third. Maybe do a small batch of super concentrate and use a scrub brush to apply it and keep applying and scrubbing until it comes clean. If that does not work, of course you could make a paste, but I would make sure to do a trial run on an area that does not matter and see if the paste does too much. Please write back and let us know how it went.

Very nice results! Will Arm & Hammer 'Super Washing Soda' (which is pure Sodium Carbonate) work to clean old wood and decks too? It is also natural and non-toxic - it's a general household cleaner like OxiClean. Super inexpensive too.

I am not a scientist so I am not positive what makes one "Percarbonate" and one just "Carbonate" and I am not sure why one would work and one not work, all I is Sodium Percarbonate works really well as shown. You can always try Sodium Carbonate on a small area which if it fails you can hide. Or... just go Sodium Percarbonate... facts be known the cost of the stuff compared to your time to do the job... I usually just go with the right stuff. But there is no harm in trying... Let us know how it all works out. Or even make your own video if it goes well.

Hi, would sodium percabonate works on ceramic tiles and grout also? Thank you.
@7777jayhawk
@7777jayhawk 5 жыл бұрын
Of course I will say first ALWAYS test on a small area where if it is ruined it is not a disaster... BUT with that said (and you taking that advice) YES... It works GREAT on tile and grout. Mix it up, let it sit to make sure all the grains are dissolved, then put the mix on the floor. Let it sit on the dirty area and bubble for as along as needed (1? 3? 5? 15? minutes? test on your own) Then scrub as much as is needed and if it gets clean quick you did it right. If not make a stronger mix, let it sit on the floor longer and/or scrub harder. I did my (tile, vinyl, linoleum) floors by doing a normal hot water mix, allowing it dissolve, then dumping it on 4 square feet areas, let it sit for 2-3 minutes and scrubbing normal. I have been amazed at how well this stuff works. I do not get paid or compensated in any way to say that... but it is true... this stuff is miracle cleaner. IT CLEANS EVERYTHING!! Billy Mays Hayes was not kidding, I thought he was crazy back in the day with his ranting, but he was not kidding Just the other day I had two dirty old towels which were worth keeping if they could come clean... But I was skeptical could come clean. I soaked them for an hour in an oxy bleach.... then washed them as normal... and holy moly... they came out looking great. Better than I imagined... AND THAT IS AFTER I AM ALREADY AMAZED AT THIS STUFF. Short answer - I think you can clean anything and everything with this stuff. So far it has worked on everything for me.... but still... when it matters I do a test on a small unnoticeable area in case it might ruin something. So far it has worked like a miracle.

@@7777jayhawk Hi, thank you for the comment. Sorry for the very late reply. I have another question, does it work as well if you use room temperature water instead of hot water? What’s your experience with that?
@7777jayhawk
@7777jayhawk 4 жыл бұрын
@@BSPoK Using warm makes the powder desolve quicker, gets rid of the lumpy grains, but it is fine to use any temp. I would just make sure the powder is gone. I will tell you a secret, I have not done a deck or wood since this project, but I soak my clothes in a 5 gallon bucket of this stuff and it works great! O saok the clothes for about 2-3 hours. I use warm/hot water because the one time I did not it took a long time to devolve. This stuff is also great for floors, or really to clean anything. It turns out that Billy Mays Hays was telling the truth when he made his hyper commercials back in the day.
