I give my 4 tips on taking the Electricians journeyman Exam. It is important that you get as much rest the night before as possible. This is by no means a guarantee to PASS the test but these things have helped my students.

Great video & advice. I got my license almost 20 years ago and we were allowed to use a "Key Word Index". Its exactly what it sounds like. Knowing where to go in the code book is not hard, but you have to master it to get your j-card & you may need it while working. & while working I'd like to quote my teacher and say " Never forget that the the code book is the minimum requirements. The Jurisdiction having Authority, wherever you are working can ask for more than the code calls for". Good luck to all & NEVER let your license expire after you obtain it. I don't care if you're out of work and you don't think you'll ever use it again.

When I took my journeyman exam I went in with 3 hrs of sleep and a monster drink in my stomach. It was rough honestly. I didn't skip any question. I answered every one of them is order and by the time the last question was answered I had almost 100 minutes left so I decided to go back all the way to Q#1 and do the entire exam one more time. I noticed that I answered some questions wrong but I also I knew that some questions I had no idea wtf the were talking about. Something that I did before starting my study journey for the exam was some research about each chapter and see how they relate to one another. I started off with electrical theory before even I open the NEC-2017. Then I jumped in to definitions on the NEC-2017 and then after that I dedicated a few weeks just on article 250. I strongly believe that if understand Bonding and Grounding the rest of the book makes a lot of more sense. If you think about everything comes down to bonding and Grounding concepts in the big picture. Good luck everyone. The math portion of it is not complicated at all. But remember: the more you practice the easier it gets. So math, math, and more math everyday and I guarantee you that you will be ok. I made an 82 by the way.

I have two weeks left before I complete my hours and apply to take the test. If you have any pointers on specific articles (besides 250) and formulas I’d love to know because I’m nervous about it. What would be the most crucial things to be prepared for when I take it?

Greetings!! Thank you for your video! I'm kind of clueless on getting my journeyman license. I have been an electrician now for 6 or 7 years and I am presently informing with my company. I have learned everything in house, but in Pennsylvania they don't require you to have a license accepting special cities or areas localities. I'm wanting to try and get my journeyman license, but there are so many courses and such out there, is there just a simple course that would help me to know exactly what needing to learn in order to take the journeyman test? Thank you for any help you can give I greatly appreciate it and may Jesus greatly bless you today!

I took a practice test today of 100 questions and went threw it first to answer the ones I knew of the top of my head and only answered 5 of them. Also I got this other doubt. As I go threw the test do I “mark” the ones I know where to find? Or do I also mark the once’s that seem easy to find? Because the ones I know where to find vs the ones that seem easy yo find are a big gap. An “easy to find” question might not be so easy and end up taking me longer than usual.
@craigmichaud-electricalins4602
@craigmichaud-electricalins4602 3 жыл бұрын
I would do both!! But you have to be mindful that if it seems to take you to long to find the answer you should just move on. Sometimes the what we think is easy is not because it’s a lot of page flipping, you have to follow your gut and move on. I hope that makes sense!! Good luck on your exam!! CM

I disagree on if you finish early, go back.. I finished with 45 minutes to spare, I don't know about anyone else, but if I would have went back I would have started second guessing myself and possibly changed answers that were right. I took an in person prepclass, and studied the hell out of the material they gave me. I had my 70 questions answered that I needed to pass without opening my code book. That is how I finished with so much time left

Well and your entitled to your opinion. Congratulations on being able to pass your test without opening your code book. I myself finished early and in my video I said dont start second guessing yourself. I have had a lot of people come to me with just having a hard time taking a test in general!!! So I am not sure what you are disagreeing with but its clear that this has worked for a majority of the people I have helped. Thanks for your comment!! CM

@@craigmichaud-electricalins4602 Love your videos.. My comment was not meant for everyone. Just for people like me that may second guess themselves. I had to open my codebook, but only after I got the 70 I needed to pass. Like you said, I went through and answered all of those first. Then I could relax knowing I passed, and go through the book to answer the others.

I would never have passed without that in person class. I wish I would have taken the class first. I wasted a try and that made it even more stressful the second time. In my state you only get 2 tries, then you have to wait a year to try again.

Determine the Minimum number of 20 -ampere, 120-volt ,branch -circuits required for the general-use receptacle outlets. A,seven b,eight c,nine D,ten . 22.14(I) pg 71. Thanks

Okay so it looks like a trip up question and the reason I say that is due to your answers. The required minimum 20amp circuits are 5 in a dwelling. But as I see your answers it looks like the question is asking how many outlets and that answer would be 10. Hope this helps please let me know how you make out!! Good luck!! CM

Thanks for your respond. I think the question was very complicated . I have the answer on my book. But I was trying to get the steps. And I don’t want to west your time on this but at the same time I don’t want to have a miss understanding. So this is the answer I got on the book. 180 VA x 115 receptacles =20,700 VA(load) #of circuits= 20,700 VA divided to 120 volts x 20 Amps = 8.6= 9 circuits
