Just got my Insight touring last week. Never been excited about a car before until now. Amazing price-performance car. Amazing gas milaege. I got used immediately on the engine sound, when charging and its on and off, doesnt bother me at all. Looks great too. Heads are turning 👍👍

Love this review. Gave me more than I could have hoped for in deciding the 2019 will be my next car purchase. Thanks very much.

There was a slight mistake in how the e-CVT technology works. The clutch that couples the engine and the wheels only engages at highway speeds when the load is low, typically cruising (this is where gasoline engines are most efficient). When passing or climbing any slope, the clutch disengages, and then the engine revs to generate more electricity to power the wheels.

I’d take this over a Prius Prime any day of the week…. Prius is way too goofy looking, less premium, AND a plug-in hybrid battery is way more expensive to replace.

The main problem with the Insight is the weirdly disconnected feeling and noise when the engine connects. This is where Toyota's hybrid system is better aurally and in practice. I like the more upscale feeling of the interior of the Insight but would buy the Corolla Hybrid for the better (IMO) hybrid application.

If I was commuting I'd take the Insight, the cabin is much nicer and at the end of the day, If I'm spending forever in traffic I want to be in a comfy place.

I realize you guys are in Utah and quite literally climbing a mountain, but that drone is beyond irritating🙉 I know for most of us who live in flatter states that would only happen occasionally, but it would still drive me insane. I do like the idea of a hybrid, but I'm afraid I'd have to go with something like a Lexus that gives you either a V6 or turbo 4 (with decent hp/tq on it's own) to help charge the batteries and climb hills in a far less stressed manner. I don't mind engine noise when I'm winding it out and bouncing off the rev limiter...but the constant drone in this Insight is something else, and not good.

I am considering purchasing one of these, a 2020 Touring, Honda Certified, with 3200 miles. The dealer is asking $22,900 which I think is a very good price, a $7000 discount on an essentially new car with a 7 year, 100k warranty. My only hesitation is the aural experience from the power train. But I am sure the possibility of achieving 50mpg may assuage those feelings. BTW, the same dealer has a 2020 Civic Touring with a few more miles that they are asking $2k more for. So it appears the the Insight’s resale value is trailing the Civic significantly, given the Civic Touring has an MSRP about $2k less. A $4k difference in an apples to apples comparison. Does that make this slightly used, Certified Insight a screaming bargain or should you avoid it??? Another tidbit....Honda only sold 14,500 Insights in 2020, Toyota sold 45,000 Priuses...although to be fair they have several iterations of the Prius whereas the Insight comes one way. Not too long ago Toyota was selling 200k+ Priuses a year....so there is that!

I’d consider this car based on their review, but I won’t be shopping for a sedan for a couple more years yet
