Because we are talking about the 3rd person (Stefen) if you were directly talking to Stefen then he would be an object for you. if I am wrong please correct

Ich is the subject (the one "finding"), and ihn is the accusative (object), referring to the person being found "nice"-likely Stefan. In German, the subject usually appears in the nominative case before the verb.
