Thanks CC for the honest appraisal - I’ve owned Subarus for most of my life but after a few attempts at outback touring I decided to opt for a more suitable vehicle and having been spoilt by reliability, solid build and a good Subaru WRX service culture I researched over 6 mths while cycling through Germany and Scandinavia - Toyota kept rising to the top for all of my criteria and the Hilux came first and Troopcarrier second - Hilux won for it’s auto transmission and versatility- I got back from Europe just before COVID buying a 2010 SR dual cab diesel - I’m speechless for how good this thing is and it even has ABS and steering wheel controls for the infotainment system all for only $18k - canopy build next for 2022 TAS to FNQ trip - John in SA

Noosa Hilux - love it Ponch. I’ve just traded a 2017 SR-5 manual with 110,000 country and outback kms. It had Old Man Emu BP51 suspension which improved the ride massively. It saw a lot of corrugations yet the body and interior were as tight as a drum after 100,000 hard kays. The original 2.8 wasn’t quick but plodded along well once up to speed and felt so much stronger than the 3lt D4D Prados we had before. AND, I traded it for $40k.

Another great review Ponch,, informative and to the point but always with a touch of sarcastic humor thrown in….very refreshing….……all four wheels off the ground and you barely skipped a beat apart from an “oh yeah” and then you rolled on with what you were saying. Keep it up.

Love the Noosa comment as l live there, just ordered an 23 SR5, currently have an 2011 SR5 which has been to the gulf and across the Plenty to Alice Springs, hope the new one will be as comfortable at 130 on the dirt as the old one is.

I love the current Hilux, but as a working class guy who lives in a unit with one garage, the Hilux in this form won't fit inside it. Why does every generation have to get longer than before? The only model I can buy is the single cab with the reduced length tray. Is there an all new model arriving next year? I heard something along those lines.

This car is clearly aimed at selected cashed up tradies. What’s more interesting is that reviews like this are justifying this kind of price for a car that let’s be honest is not worth more than $29,990. Cost of living is going up and up and yet people continue to fork out thousands of unnecessary dollars to companies like Toyota.

@@chasingcars Yes, sorry but having just been in one with black leather seats on a 35 degree day well,... :- 1. burnt my neck on the red hot seat belt buckle, 2. Burnt my legs and arms on the red hot black leather seats,... hotter then the 1970s black vinyl cars, 3. could not breath from the fumes coming from the vapours coming from the leather and trim. The whole inside is very dark with a claustrophobic feel and there is a very dangerous optical lag coming from focussing on the dark instruments and cabin electronics back to the bright outside light. In addition the dark inertia makes it difficult to locate personal items on the floor and seats which becomes a feel by touch location technique. Also the the piano black trim has a distractive reflective surface,... piano black, seriously its 2022. The Toyota Hilux used to come with a light grey trim that was very serviceable and more suited to the Australian climate. Yes I could have let you keep the bone if you had mentioned one of the above,... but to come out with " Its Black inside but not as hot as others",... we are talking about an $80K vehicle that comes in any colour as long as its black,...tell it as it is. Why oh why is the automatic version being reviewed or road - tested over the manual transmission all the time. Nobody wants to see or hear about an automatic 4 wheel drive vehicle of this nature because the whole driving experience is literally lost in an automatic vehicle as a result of handing over your self autonomy by choosing to act as if you are disabled when you are clearly not. ? 🦼
@chasingcars Жыл бұрын
Nobody wants to hear about automatic, yet 95%+ of sales of these variants are automatic. That doesn’t add up.
